Rocco mentioned in connection with UD job

Let's build one big locker room for all sports so no gender will be offended. Change the school colors to beige and white since red could be considered a passive aggressive color. No numbers or names on the uniforms so everyone feels equal. Yelling at the games is prohibited, don't want to make another player feel bad. Only cello music can be played. Serve only gluten free organically grown foods at the concession stand. Keep no score during the games and everyone gets a trophy and a puppy when it is over. That will make Crutcher happy and Rocco can get what ever he wants and stays

not funny, things are going in that direction. guess that means no cheerleaders, darn it.

so you guys would rather remain in the caa, if the school does not have the vision to compete at the level we, as fans, wish to, as we are now? you don't get what i am saying evidently. love where we are but if the board, prez, decides to just be average, not compete for championships then we need to go where we can, assuming that they would want to win championships at any level. one has to really think about where we are in this deal, we are at a crossroads and depending on what happens over the next few weeks, we should reconsider what our priorities are, well other than equity and diversity, and get our sports aligned with that vision.
WE should mount a rebellion to take OUR school back and help the administration set OUR vision.

You left out Grotto Pizza and Capriotty Subs although I'm not positive that either actually started in the First State.

The more we keep on winning the more I am
sickened by all of this. If he leaves for a rival in the same conference after being as successful as he has here, there is something definitely wrong with the school and I lay the blame at the feet of the admin and athletic dept. They should be punished for allowing one of the most successful coaches we have ever had to leave for a lesser program!!! WTF.

I for one applaud Rocco for being straightforward and honest about all this and not brushing it under the rug. He wants to be the best and have the resources to do it year in and year out. If it's true the admin and athletic dept don't share that 'vision' it says all we need to know about how important football is at Richmond.

I agree with much of what you say, except the "Delaware is a lesser program" stuff. They've been about equal with UR (same number of championships, more trips to the Championship game, about equal number of down years) as far as football goes. They could probably get anyone in through admissions that they need, unlike UR, which might be the big thorn in Rocco's side. Still, it doesn't make sense on the surface to go for what's basically a lateral move, unless things at UR are just a bad working environment.

You guys have set an extremely very low bar for appreciating pizza.Grotto's is old cardboard.I'm more than a little biased given my hometown of New Haven,CT where there are Sally's and Pepe's on Wooster Street-
real apizza joints.

DR's press conference was interesting. In addition to saying Crutcher "gets it" he also said Crutcher was always at the FB games and even when he misses a game he always calls him or emails him. Said they recently met and had a good conversation and that at the end of the season he will sit down with the powers at be, including influential people, and Crutcher, to see where they want the program to go. He certainly sounded like someone who has not committed elsewhere at this point.

Right, seemed like a veiled shot at Gill, i.e., he doesn't get it.

Seems like either Rocco and Gill agree to stay out of each other's business moving forward or it becomes a situation where one stays and one goes.

This is beginning to sound more and more like Gill and Rocco just don't have a good working relationship. I don't get the whole anger at Crutcher, when the person in charge of the athletic department is the AD. And as always, we have radio silence from our AD.

A win-win would be to somehow retain Rocco and dispatch Gill in the process.

And maybe Mooney and Gill too?

8LEG is in the same place as I am here. after 2 weeks the issues are starting to narrow. we knew of the meeting at the coaches luncheon yesterday and that GILL WAS NOT THERE!! so lets all read 8legs post again and we'll all be on the same page going forward

Would be absolutely shameful if this is the case and we lose Rocco but keep Gill. Gill seems invisible to me, does he do anything? From the sounds of the board here, its always crickets.

Just from a local media perspective, the difference between Miller and Gill is night and day. Miller was very engaging with the media through a variety of situations and mediums, whereas Gill is rarely heard from.

I think it is an important part of the AD's job to be media savvy and use the media in a proactive manner to benefit the University. Gill maybe raising a lot of money and hitting homers on the other part of his jobs, I honestly don't know, but he seems to be falling short on the public communications front. And not having a good working relationship with your very successful football coach is another big strike in my book.

Miller came early to most of the coaches luncheon on Tuesday. he would walk from table to table to greet and talk with the alumni. I'm trying to remember if gill has attended more than 1 or 2 when he was initially hired. ''U reading this gill....u don't get it''

At the risk of sounding like a dunce, here's my question. How much influence do the coaches have in the hiring of an AD? Especially those coaches in the revenue generating sports?
Just spit-balling here, but I wonder if Rocco had a different favorite for the AD hire and knew Gill didn't share the same "vision."

To be fair to Gil, he's currently in New York speaking at a conference, so even if he wanted to be at the show, he couldn't be.

Gill is sitting on panel this morning at 8:05am at Learfield Forum in NYC. "What Keeps You Up at Night?"

For me,it's my diuretic.For others,it's an enlarged prostate.For Gill,it's Danny Rocco....

Probably a good place to circulate your resume....Big East Commish Val Ackerman also on panel.
Remember that TJ Cline dad is a SVP at Learfield.

Why was everyone so quick to dump on Crutcher?
I think the Crutcher anger was in regards to him not being known as a "sports guy." When there is trouble with the AD and the President isn't known as a sports guy the 2 tend to be linked together in the problem. However, if Crutcher is as active as recently portrayed, Gill is the concern.

For what it's worth, I think people here assume that Dr. C isn't a sports guy. There isn't a lot of empirical evidence of this, in fact, I'd say his engagement at games indicates he understands the importance. Based on what little I know of this situation (and I know little but it is something at least), there seems to be inadequate representation/communication by Keith to UR leadership about stuff like this. I don't get the impression that he's out in front leading this stuff, perhaps not maliciously, but just because of style. I do know that Dr. C was pretty dismayed at what had come to pass and took immediate action to try to rectify it, so I would not hang it on him like many seem prepared to do.

Heck, I played the cello, and I played Spider football. The two are not mutually exclusive. :)

When Crutcher came up as a candidate I remember liking him, because his way of running the school included athletics and a very practical understanding of the importance that athletics can play in PR by being successful on the field of play.

I agree. Honestly, what is the point of even having an athletic director if the coach works directly with the president at such a critical moment in the relationship ?

What on earth has Gill done to deserve being a panelist at such an event? The guy is is always on the road, doing stuff like this.

Reminds me of Eric Cantor a few years ago. Doing everything BUT communicate with his constituency. Where's our Dave Brat when we need him?

Resume builder of nothingness.Imagery without substance.Working on next gig which hopefully is very much sooner than later.
