Hadn't noticed the Greg Jones update. And SF are you on the Premium board?

Ya, I spotted the Jones list a day or two ago.

And nope, I'm not on the premium board.

Am I correct in counting (without any suspected transfers) that we only have 1 scholarship for 2018?

We have 0 scholarships for 2018 unless somebody leaves.

In 2018-19...

Seniors (5): Fore, Friendshuh, Johnson, Pistokache, Stansbury
Juniors (3): Sherod, Buckingham, Golden
Sophomores (5): Cayo, Ford, Gilyard, Schneider, Verbinskis

There's your 13 scholarships all accounted for.

Here are the 13 scholarships for next season (each team gets 13)
Golden, Friendshuh
Stansbury, Ford, Cayo
Sherod, Verbinskis, Schneider
Buckingham, Johnson, Pistokache
Fore, Gilyard

Honest question, nothing against the man, but should Friendshuh have a schollie next year?

I generally think that you offer and honor the scholarship for all four years. I think they generally are treated as year to year though. It would likely harm our reputation quite a bit with recruits if we got into some habit of rescinding scholarships from one year to the next.

That said, Paul really needs to show some trajectory to contributing this year, otherwise he's three years in with nary a minute of playing time.

My question was more "deserves". Let's say he doesn't play hardly at all this year. he might have a conversation with coach that centers around future plans/playing time being very small. I know that's happened before, hence the transfers of Smithen, Singleton, etc over the past few years.

I think if you went by the "deserves" rationale, it's hard to say. There are probably 2-3 guys each year who play so little as to be "undeserving" of a scholarship, but you're expecting them to grow and develop, etc., so they can ultimately contribute in future years. I doubt that UR looks seriously at it this way though, I expect they look individually at guys and are honest with them about their chances of playing. Some guys might be fine sticking around on the possibility, others will want to try to play elsewhere. I honestly don't know that we've not renewed or forced out someone though. Doesn't strike me as our style, although maybe this is happening and I just don't realize it.

Maybe deserves is the wrong word, but I can't remember a guy like Friendshuh who has been so injury plagued in every year he's been here so far. I can't see him providing meaningful minutes as the new talent has come in every year.

in my opinion any player we bring in keeps his scholarship unless he isn't holding up his end of the bargain, meaning if he isn't putting forth the effort. injuries aren't Paul's fault.

I don't think we'd look to play Paul with TJ this year even if healthy. TJ's the 5. Paul's shot to get playing time comes next year. hopefully he'll be ready.

I think Tbone is probably right. We're unlikely to outright pull a schollie from a player who is holding up his end of the deal, but I'm sure there are frank discussions about certain guys' future roles with the team as Mooney sees it, so there may be some encouragement to perhaps seek out other opportunities that might work out better for everyone.

I don't think it's uncommon for big guys (6'10"+) to be prone to injury, the body mechanics at that height are just different. Obviously Paul has had some kind of injury issues, enough so to redshirt him a year (probably would have been appropriate to do regardless) and then play him relatively little last year. I think if he's not playing this year when we so desperately need depth in the frontcourt, you have to think he's injured again, or injured enough to think his minutes in game will be poor.

I hope he gets healthy, we need that depth.

If this is the appropriate place to post links to updates on our 2017 class of 5 incoming recruits, I am hopeful that someone will get the ball rolling, so to speak.

It sounds like Jacob G, our PG is having a fantastic senior year so far, with several games of 30+ points and one game with 50 points.

Was wondering if anyone has updates on any of our other guys, since the high-school season is obviously well underway. Am especially interested in our Center recruit (Ford), since his high-school junior stats were not even listed in the UR recruiting summary article on the 5. I am guessing that the absence of listed stats probably means that he had a very limited role as a junior. If updated stats and game info (and videos) will not be posted, it would be great if someone could look up the websites for the player's high-schools, and post them in one spot, so that interested fans can look at updates on their own. Thanks to anyone who can assist with updates, stats, videos, etc.! ..

Good and timely post. I think that most of us are most interested in the performance of our signees as well. Actually, this is the one particular thread which I look forward to reading the most.

Other than the occasional posting of information by Fan1 and 05, who apparently have contacts inside the program, the gathering of further information on recruits looks, at least historically, to be best-suited as a job for the Ulla and SF. They seem to be the best at discovering information of this nature.

A super recruit-sleuth, the Ulla can find tidbits that are unknown to even the parents of the recruits, all positive and impressive, as you might guess, which I intend as a compliment to him and his efforts. SF is excellent as well as he started this very important thread, sees to its updates, and has made numerous contributions of information about the listed recruits as well. I stand in awe of both of them in this regard, and I appreciate the time and effort they have invested in this pursuit.

I think that we all appreciate their efforts and results. I feel certain that they are continually on the look-out and as soon as such information becomes available they will post it on this thread.

+1 iSpider! Agree completely that the Ulla and SF have been major contributors to updates on our recruits in the past, including some fantastic links to videos that have been posted here. Am waitign with baited breath to see some updates that might suggest that several of our 2017 signees will have outstanding senior seasons. Have my fingers crossed, in particular, that TJ Ford, our 6-8 Center recruit, will have a monster/break-out senior season. The coaching staff likely feels the same way...

FYI, TJ Ford played for Texas and in the NBA. I think you mean AJ...

Have not seen anything posted yet on our two 6-8 2017 signees. How are they doing their senior seasons?

And, is Verbinskis' 7-point outing a couple of days ago going to be typical for his senior year, or will he be averaging 14 points again this season (or better), like he did his junior year? So far it looks like JG, our point guard, is the only one headed towards a truly "break-out" senior season, but it is still very early....so am hoping that we have identified several guys who will have break-out senior seasons...

if you must know ...

Thanks much spiderman!

So if I read the above posts correctly... AJ Ford scored 7 points in one game and 20 in the most recent? That sounds like a very nice "improving" trend. I love that he scored 20 points in a recent game (second leading scorer),after having a very "quiet" junior season. Maybe he will "blow-up" (in a positive way) too, like our PG signee...

Any updates on any of our other guys? How about Thomas and Mr. Cato?

I wonder how many points TJ averaged his senior year in high school. Tried, without success, to look it up.

our TJ? Cline averaged 16.8 points, 7.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.5 steals per game as a senior at Plano West High.
