NCAA Tournament - Tourney Thread

What? Is that allowed? Is switching up defenses considered an adjustment?
What’s an adjustment? Sorry I have been out of touch with defensive switching, changes and halftime adjustments for 17 years.

St. Peter's is the best story in the tournament in 20 years. Too bad Iona didn't get an at-large berth because they might have won a game or two as well.

And all members of this year's Selection Committee should be banned for life for selecting nine Big Ten teams, none of which made it to the Elite 8. What a massive choke job. Should be a max of six from each conference.

Good article on this topic.

Last year, nine Big Ten teams made the tournament and none made the Final Four. Illinois, a No. 1 seed, lost by 13 points to eighth-seeded Loyola in the second round. The conference hasn’t won the national championship since 2000, when Michigan State beat Florida. I’m told President Grover Cleveland, a big Gators fan, was very upset.

It is beginning to look like the Final Four will be nothing but Cinderellas that no one has heard of...

I did note that in some of the St. Peter's games the announcers were saying that they were playing a "match-up zone." If they tried that yesterday it didn't work very well. But it was pretty effective in the first three games.

Yes but I would argue that hadn't seen a backcourt as explosive as UNC's...they got hot at the right time. Purdue was Big but their Bigs wasn't the Bacot type. Of course they did handle UK and Oscar Tshiebwe.

The ACC was garbage this year and gets half the Final Four and three of the Elite Eight. Crazy.
Duke and Carolina, especially in the second half of the season, were definitely not "garbage." The ACC was not as deep as it has been historically but its top teams are among the best in the country (as usual) and proved it in the tournament.

I mean the league overall was not great this year at all. Obviously still better than a lot of others, but aside from the top few teams, it was not anything special. Of course, anything can and does happen in the tourney.
That's fair, hard to argue against it. The tourney always has a couple of great stories...See 🕷️🏀 see what I did there 😁 I would say they were down this year as compared to previous years but still very solid. Big 10 poo pooed out as well, would you say they were a better league this year? I think maybe they were.

Yeah, grew up at UNC fan and they are my 2nd favorite team at the moment😁 GO🕷️🏀. They both have figured it out and are pretty hot....I told my students who love to rub dook in my face every chance they get that Monday I will be unbearable no matter the outcome! 😂

Good luck, would love to see it - but this tournament has set up as the Coach K farewell tour, with the only possible conclusion a revenge win over UNC and a national championship. Carolina playing very well now, but again K and the NCAA will not be defeated here. Would love to get Carolina on the schedule again, I remember we played them a couple times over the year. Maybe Gkiller (I think) can get his old buddy Hubert's ear :)

Afraid you are probably right…NCAA will do anything for the dookies to go out on top. Here’s to dreaming 😀

Hubert was ChopBroc buddy. Hubert was a little older than me but I did watch him in hs. Football too he was good WR. His hs bball coach was actually my little league baseball coach. I liked Hubert but I was happy to watch him lose his last high school game ever in playoffs to my local school. & he cried like a baby just like on tv the other day.

Not sure if you can tell on the broadcast but the Nova fans are outnumbered by Kansas fans about 10 to 1. It isn’t even close in here

I only watched the first half and am admittedly old school. But it didn't seem much like "team" basketball to me. It looked like ten individual players going one on one most of the time.

I had my KU hat and shirt on in the first game and NC hat in the second. KU combo for Monday. Say you what about Self not being a good coach but IMO he's been way greater than a good coach. Yes unfortunately has bowed out of the tourney TOO SOON and TOO MANY times as a high seed.

This year I thought just not big enough to win it all especially with McCormick being inconsistent beginning part of season. In reality he's only average slightly over 20 minutes a game. Lightfoot has been big this year as his sub. Good he took Self's advice and redshirted his senior year lol.

Minus Remy Martin though of late and not in the champ game. KU and UR have been the two teams I have watched more than any other this season. My wife a big CCB fan has really taken to Remy. Told her can't count on him every game and Agbaji finally broke out of his slump last two games. Remy says it and I see it how much Self has harnessed his talents. Remy thought there wasn't a shot he couldn't make. Always been a good assist man but better now along with better tight man defense for his size.

And lastly about coach talk. Self has said of late (without questioned) so much success for Kansas over the years but they need more titles. Was mentioned after last night's game with him reaffirming that fact. I didn't hear wording like "competing" or "encouraging." He clearly knows the score and realizes serious fans do too of what is expected.

But they lost to Dayton, how good can they be? ;)

LOL and we beat Dayton. urmite if you saw that buzzer beating shot by Flyer player I believe you would give it a 10 for lucky on a 1-10 score. Thinking about it, I wonder what luck number would we give to the Spiders for beating Dayton without that ONE player for the entire second half? Of course one poster here will tell us that no luck was involved with UR winning the conference tourney. ;)

Buzzer beater? I thought it was an inbounds dunk? ;)

All games between the 3 teams were so close, obviously we are all equal...

Yet I hear the NCAA is investigating his program for violations. All these Coach K critics, yet I don’t remember NCAA violations or investigations. But hold the presses was not there a academics scandal that the blessed UNC program was involved with athletics? The two teams I despise the most are in the finals and will give me a chance to find a good comedy to watch.

Yes you're correct about KU. We will see where it goes but to an extent in IMO the top schools possibly could be a little dirty. Just don't get caught appears to be the motto.

And the critics of the righteous Coach K. He continually mentioned how his players all stayed for 4 years. Stayed that way for 20 years until Elton Brand and someone else left the same year? Coach K had to think I have to start recruiting kids that won't stay 4 years to win championships. And he did. Then must have been Coach K said to himself forget staying 2-3 years I need one-and-done players. And he did. And from all the info we have Coach K never had to play dirty. Did he have too? I believe not, he has had the easiest time in getting the best players. Coach K has won at almost any cost but good for him.

Look at this about KU with Duke sort of involved in a way ....
While Krzyzewski hasn't faced the same level of scrutiny as other coaches as the situation drags on, SB Nation's Ricky O'Donnell noted Duke has been linked to potential NCAA infractions in the past.

Yahoo Sports' Dan Wetzel also reported Kansas Jayhawks assistant coach Kurtis Townsend had been recorded discussing with Adidas consultant Merl Code the requests from a member of Zion Williamson's family during Williamson's recruitment.

"I know what he's asking for," Code said to Townsend. "He's asking for opportunities from an occupational perspective, he's asking for cash in the pocket and he's asking for housing for him and his family."
Williamson was the No. 5 overall player in the 2018 recruiting class, per 247Sports' composite rankings, and signed with Duke ahead of the 2018-19 season.

Do I believe Duke anything underhanded to get Zion. Not at all. Though I do believe many HS star players/families might as well ask for something. All coaches can do is say no. And that's what they should do.
