NCAA Tournament - Tourney Thread

I watched both the Davidson and Loyola games. I honestly think both of these teams beat their opponent 4 out of 5 games. Loyola had just an awful shooting day and Davidson didn’t rise to the occasion.
Davidson missed crucial free throws very late in the game when they were needed most. How many times have we emphasized that free throws can make the difference in winning or losing the game? There were also several series where they missed layups and give-mes at the basket. These also factor into a team losing a game by 1 point as opposed to winning by 2 to 8 points.

I'd dismiss blaming a loss on refs. That's an easy go to rationalize a loss.

I call it as I se it, not putting all the blame on them. I have my opinion right or wrong.

congrats to Martelli on making the Sweet 16. He’s kind of the shadow coach anyway for that team.

I had a UVA friend bring up something about this tournament that I hadn’t thought about. He said it was a shame that Richmond won at 3:00 pm on a Thursday and got crushed in prime time on a Saturday. Everyone knows we won of course, but few actually saw it. Everyone saw the shellacking on Saturday. So the question is how much good publicity did we actually get? I countered with the Saturday game was over in the first few minutes, so most all fans switched to other games. What do you guys think?

I think benefited very positively from Thursday...yes, a prime time slot would've been better but the 3 Thursday upsets were big news that evening and Friday!

Silly comment from your uva friend. All eyes were on the tournament and we got tremendous exposure on Thursday during the game and after.

I think his logic was sound. Then St Peters beat Kentucky and we were an afterthought to anyone but Iowa and UR and maybe Barkley.

Lot of eyeballs on March Madness & exposure regardless but...

specific to Sat early evening that is not “prime time”. It’s actually one of the worst tv slots traditionally. That’s why 2 small schools Richmond & Providence got it.

As opposed to 3:10 pm on a Thursday? No.

my comment was in response to being “prime time” Saturday. But K I don’t know the answer to comparison to thurs. maybe. Someone would have to check the traditional ratings. Thurs & Fri afternoon games r a popular viewing time for ppl to take off work & watch, or at least follow, school is out by then on East Coast etc.

K - check out the rating numbers posted in the Iowa game observations thread. Lot more viewership on Iowa game than Providence.

never listen to a guy who went to uva over Richmond ha.

St. Peter's is the best story in the tournament in 20 years. Too bad Iona didn't get an at-large berth because they might have won a game or two as well.

And all members of this year's Selection Committee should be banned for life for selecting nine Big Ten teams, none of which made it to the Elite 8. What a massive choke job. Should be a max of six from each conference.
