Lauletta to the Giants

The question is whether Kyle is ready for it. The Giant's o-line is terrible and Manning is running for his life. He is getting crushed.
His strength is his release and quick decision making. He has a top 3 WR and what appears to be a top 3 RB to work with to help. Giants OL is terrible but Eli holds on to the ball way too long which makes them look worse. Weather he’s ready for it or not he’s going to get his name called sooner rather than later.

If he gets a chance I hope it works out for him...at least he's more mobile than Eli so when the rush comes he can at least move out of the way. It'll be rocky for sure but having 10 days before the start would be beneficial. Starting on a Mon night game on the road would be surreal. But at worst the Giants need to see what they have in him and if he's someone they can work with over the future or hit the draft next year for another QB.

Eli's a statue with a terrible line. At least Kyle is mobile. They can't get much worse than they have been. If Kyle's going to get a shot, it may be soon.

Unfortunately, I think Kyle has now, through no fault of his own, found himself in a really bad spot. I wouldn't want him to play now because the Giants are terrible and the O line especially is terrible. Its almost impossible for him to look good in the current situation. So, if he plays, I think he's hurting his chances. But if he doesn't play, the Giants will have a Top pick and will almost certainly have to take a QB and Kyle likely never gets a shot. Bad, bad spot.

Taking the shot and hoping you can look good (against steep odds!) is probably the better of two bad options, but its going to be rough watching him get crushed and likely struggle and the media rip into it etc.

Your points are valid. The other option is that the Giants fix the execution issues of the offensive line and Manning remains QB for the foreseeable future. Alternatively, they play Tanney and make Manning the back-up, while keeping Lauletta in reserve. For good or bad, Manning is the best QB the Giants have right now, like when Brunell played for the Redskins. Brunell ran for his life, because the Skin's o-line was atrocious.

The issus is 1) whether Lauletta can buy time, 2) can he make use of that extra time he creates, or 3) can he release the ball to a receiver in less than 2 seconds

Several commentators are calling for Lauletta to play in the Giant's next game.

Consider:
    • Manning was hit on 6 percent of his throws last season; now, he is near the middle of the pack in QB contact and 12th in pressure faced.

    • Manning is holding on to the ball longer this year (2.65 seconds compared to 2.35 seconds in 2017) while playing in a new offense under coach Pat Shurmur.

    • Manning has been sacked the fourth-most times in the NFL this season. He has also been sacked on 16 of 24 quarterback hits (67 percent), according to ESPN Stats & Information. Back in his second Super Bowl season (2011), Manning was sacked on just 46 percent of quarterback hits.

    • The Giants are 23rd in points per game, despite having offensive weapons such as Odell Beckham Jr., Saquon Barkley, Sterling Shepardand Evan Engram, when he's healthy.

    • They’ve failed to score 20 points in three of five games and reached 30 points on Sunday for the first time since Tom Coughlin was the coach in 2015 (Week 17).

    • Manning has fewer touchdown passes (six) than all but two quarterbacks (Dak Prescott and Case Keenum) who have started five games.

Manning is reading defenses at a slower pace this year. He is also on pace to be sacked 51 times this season. It can't continue like this. I would prefer Lauletta be treated like Tony Romo, who sat for 4 years, and who developed into a very good QB under Parcells. However, what options do the New York Giants have? Manning is slower in his decision making.

Not an Eli fan but his sack rate is due to a very average/bad offensive line. While I enjoy the Giants sucking it can’t all be blamed on him. Kyle would have a hard time proving his worthiness behind that line.

Have Kyle that is as ready as possible before throwing him to the fire.

If the Giants don’t quickly start winning a bunch of games then Kyle needs to play this year. If not, the Giants will draft a new QB and Kyle would likely be cut. Harsh reality of the NFL but you don’t develop two young guys.

Kyle will get the start off the bye week if the Giants lose the next two games and Eli keeps playing the way he does.

Kyle reminds me of Tony Romo. The Cowboys signed Romo as an undrafted free agent and kept him on the bench for 3 1/2 years. He finally replaced Bledsoe. Romo was brought on by Parcells, a genius at developing QBs. Lauletta was brought on by Shurmur, who is also very good at developing QBs.

Cowboys would love to have Kyle too.

There are some parallels to Dak Prescott.
4th round pick.
Brought in to develop behind a long-time starter on the down-slope of his career.
May be rushed into action ahead of schedule.

If Lauletta is going to play this year, this will be the moment. The Giants have a long layoff with a bye. They have an easier schedule coming up.

he coached a Hue Jackson type game last night. An embarassment.

Pardon my ignorance, but why wouldn't Alex Tanney get the starting nod should anything happen to Manning?

Because last year, they benched Manning for Geno Smith, the backup. The coach decided to not play Davis Webb, but his plan was tp play him in the nedt game. There was a huge out cry by fans and former players. At that point Manning had played in 210 consecutive games. The next game Manning was reinstated, Smith was benched, and Davis Webb never played. The argument is they should have played Webb in at least one game last year. They do not want to make the same mistake twice.

They need to see if they have anything of starter's value in Lauletta otherwise they'll be looking at the top of next year's draft for their long term QB.

And the coach, Macadoo, was fired the next game. The GM was also relieved.

The only concern with the Giants doing so poorly is that they have a legitimate shot at another top 3 pick next year. The pressure will be for them to draft a higher prospective QB who has day 1 starter potential. Another young QB does not bode well for Lauletta’s chances at all. Best case scenario is Giants lose a couple more games and they decide to give Lauletta a shot and Lauletta performs well.
