Looks like what Khwan said was true, wanted to be closer to home. A shocker people thought he was lying. Glad he was able to do so and will be catching some Vols games next season to see him play! Hopefully can see him in the tourney next year.
Tennessee isn't that much closer to home than Richmond. Knoxville is basically in Virginia.

I think I need to report Virginia Tech's geography teacher to the state legislature. They're 434 miles away.

Also this has been fun because my cousin works for the Tennessee athletic department and has since the Peyton Manning days. He's given me a lot of info here which is why I have generally stayed away from this discussion and haven't tried to leak any info. But you keyboard warriors keep claiming you know what is going on when you don't have the slightest idea.

Says the guy who refused to believe that any of us had information ahead of time that Khwan was transferring...

There is no conspiracy. Kwhan like 300+ other graduates, is taking advantage of grad transfer rule. Don't like the rule, but the under terms of it, he held up his end of the bargain and graduated in 4 or less. He did what he thought was right for him, and judging by instagram, his teammates are supported his decision ( by the way, where is the social media support for Buck from his teammates, since he was "wronged")

Kyle Lauletta had the same chance to do the same thing. Would be interesting to see what he would have done if he hadn't got hurt. He stayed because he hurt his knee, plus he didn't want to leave his teammates, despite another coach. It worked out for him.

Butler had better be planning ahead, Bryce Golden might get homesick in his grad transfer year and look for a school closer to home :D

Right, we are no different than the other top A10 programs, like Dayton, VCU and Davidson, who regularly lose fifth-year senior starters to transfer...

Heck with Khwan, he quit his team. Delete the thread, next man up.

I agree. Time to move on. We are going to be a lot better next year. Better shooters, more size, and hopefully no chemistry and momentum killing 1 game suspensions after 5 game winning streaks.

Why can’t it be both?

No one makes decisions in a vacuum, and almost no one makes a decision for 1 reason. I imagine that Kwan wanted to be closer to home, but also wanted to play in an NCAA tourney. If his desire was simply to be closer to home, then he would be at UAB (or a school even closer).

You and VT continually harp on him publicly stating he wanted to be closer to home, but in the same quote, he said he felt like he had done all he could for the team and that he wanted to focus on himself. The second part can be explained by him wanting to play in the NCAA tourney.

The truth is we will never know definitively, though again, I imagine it was a combination of things. To say it was simply and only wanting to be closer to home is, in your words, “fake news,” as it is not the complete story of his quote.

Finally, your “keyboard warriors” comment was unnecessarily inciteful. We can disagree without calling each other names.

Wondering out loud - is there any chance that Fore is issued the uniform number 4 by the Vols or is that number already taken? It would eliminate the confusion of calling Fore "Two".....................

Lauletta didn't leave because we have a damn good football program. We had just gone to the FCS playoffs the last 2 years and were set up for another run. That didn't happen but our football team has a winning culture. Mooney can't even mention the word "winning" as one of our goals. We just need to get better. Completely different culture with our football program.

This is not that complex, he probably does want to be closer to home, as long as it's with a team that has a decent chance of making the tournament. If proximity were the only/primary driver, he'd be going to UofA-Huntsville. Instead, he's going to a big time school that returns a bunch of starters from this year's NCAA team and conference champion and is likely to go back to the tournament in 2019.

Good luck to Khwan, I'm sure he'll look great in orange, it's a very flattering color.

He has a UR degree in hand. Mission accomplished. He probably wants to dance, wants to be part of a large school with big time football, wants to be an SEC alum and affiliated with a big time program for life, wants to play at Rupp Arena, wants to check out the Tenn coeds (hot), and wants to sport Tenn gear the rest of his life. Can’t blame him. Hamdy did the same thing leaving VCU for TCU. Good decision. That campus rocks. Also, I’ll bet VCU transfer Samir Doughty is loving life at Auburn too. He’ll be dancing next yr and enjoying big time SEC sports and lifetime affiliation. Same for Wade at LSU from a coaching perspective. Sure beats playing Fordham, Duquesne, and LaSalle every year.

Was poking around VolNation this am, seems like most of the folks on their forum are pretty lukewarm on Kwan, most see him in a PG back-up role, more of a change of pace guy than someone who would start or get a lot of minutes. They like his finishing at the rim, though. I hope he proves them wrong and gets plenty of PT there. Tennessee is projected to be a Top 10 team next season, before the Kwan commitment became public knowledge.

This move is a win-win for the Vols and Fore. For the team - they don't really need much help. They return 11 of 13 players off a team that was a top 3 team in the SEC and earned a 3 seed in the NCAA tourney. They had an open scholarship, but rather than waste it on a kid that might have been a reach for SEC, they get a kid with college experience at a mid-major level who might be able to give them 10 minutes off the bench and a spark when they need it. And if it doesn't work out - he is only there 1 year, so they lose very little in the process.

For Fore - he gets to be on an NCAA team that will more than likely dance next season. He will have to earn his minutes, but like I said above - no reason he can't be their 7th or 8th guy and provide a spark off the bench. Is he going to be a star for the Vols - NO. But can he contribute and maybe help them to the sweet 16 next season - sure. And if he doesn't get any minutes, he can at least say he made the NCAA tourney.

I agree with the first half of what you said. But you got the second half all wrong. I think what you meant to say was that he gets to go to a school practically in his backyard, only a 4 hour commute away, and showcase his point guard talents for those European leagues that he was really really close to signing with a couple weeks ago in order to go closer to home.

We had excellent receivers

Works out well for Khwan. He doesn’t have to worry about classes at UT and can just enjoy the experience.

Man, this thread is pretty sad. He's being treated like every Red Sox player who left Boston... dragged through the mud. The kid leaves our dumpster fire of a program for a Power 5 school where he'll get a much better chance at the NCAA tourney and people here are acting like he's left for some rinky dink program.

Yeah, it sucks for us not to have him next year but wish him nothing but the best

Good luck Khwan at your new school. Thsnks for your time at UR.
Ditto, Kwan was my favorite player simply because he was such a hard worker and never gave up. If all players took his work ethic
we would have been better. I wish him only the best and for UR, the next man up! Who is going fill his spot?

I don't blame Khwan. I blame Mooney, his fault that things are so bad that a good young man leaves the program. Ododa all over again.

I would think that it's going to be difficult for Khwan to be sitting on the bench after playing so many minutes here.

I am certain that this thread has no impact whatsoever on Fore.....as he made his decision and will move on.............what do posters do on message boards............vent...... and that will continue. Now leaving Boston............that is a totally different barrel of fish..........................as those players are being paid boatloads of money...............................Haven't read where any posters wished any harm on Fore but instead vented their feelings about him leaving....which means they wanted him to stick around.................is that a compliment or a slam?....you decide............................

I wish Khwan all the best at Tennessee. I enjoyed watching him play for the last few years--extremely athletic. Played way above his size and I enjoyed the electricity he brought to the court each night.

Just talked with Khwan and Joe Kirby, what nice young men. Joe may be going into coaching; Khwan looks forward to getting closer to home at Tennessee. Wished them nothing but the best. So proud of these guys.

Ulla - I am liking it that you are now spending lots of time at the place that you were educated and that you hold in such high regard.

"I definitely want to go somewhere where we’re going to be able to win and make the tournament, with the kind of success they had here already they’re definitely set up to do that,” Fore said in an interview following his trip to Knoxville two weeks ago.

Dear lord, it is right there in print as to why he left. "I want to go somewhere where we are going to be able to win and make the tournament". Of course, he is not going to pan our program, I'm sure he enjoyed our time here and publically panning our program is not going to endear you to other coaches.

If we had just missed the NCAA this year and were loaded for bear next year, Khwan probably stays, but he not staying around to see us not even be even close to the NIT this year.
