Higher probability of Mooney getting contract extension than leaving early.

I think the people on this board need to prepare themselves for Mooney getting a contact extension either at the end of next season or the following. He has the wind at his back with a high quality and experienced team entering next season. If the team does well the next 2 years, there is a very high probability he gets an extension. If the team doesn't do well he will either be fired or his contract will not be renewed. I think the odds are in his favor

I hope Hardt puts a mid-season firing on the table if we start next year losing to the Longwoods and Hamptons of the world.

again with the mid season firing? you'd only replace with the top assistant when that happens (which is extremely rare in college basketball). I still see no benefit.

The benefit is that we get a head start on a coaching search. If we start off with quad4 loses, I'm fine with an assistant coach taking over the reigns. Besides, maybe we'll get some fans back...no wait, our school doesn't care about fans, what was I thinking...

I don't even know what that means. you aren't going to talk to coaches while they're in season. you contact them the day they're done.

once Hardt decided to retain Mooney, he decided to retain him for the full season. even if that's not what you want to believe.

What? No research goes in to hiring a coach? All you have to do is talk to them?

On the other hand, what would be the benefit of keeping a coach who lost to some really subpar programs with a loaded roster?

It’s sort of a silly thing to discuss in general, but I don’t get the logic.

Well, they have a season ticket waiting list that even the Washington Redskins would be jealous of!

No extension came last summer and I suspect one isn’t forthcoming this summer, otherwise Hardt may never be able to gain entry to his house through all the toilet paper. This suggests to me that Hardt is perhaps prepared to let the clock run out rather than add years without performance improvement.

A ton of this depends on one’s definition of “does well”. No one really knows what that means. I personally won’t be happy with anything short of an NCAA trip but others might be ok if we post a winning record.

Oh, and thanks for poking the bear. Can’t wait to see what the more passionate anti-CM guys come back with. Eek.

I originally thought that Mooney's contract would not be renewed for a couple years. However, since the billboard and the continued negative aggressiveness of some of the members of this board, Mooney's contract might get extended earlier than expected to help with recruiting. It could happen at the end of next season if the team does well. Obviously, if he does not do well we could be looking at a new coach, but I think the odds are in his favor.

this should end all talk about the coach and his contract. either he is extended, fired or goes to the end of his contract, period. we do not know who controls any of this so that makes any attack on the AD, meaningless since we don't even know if he has the power to do anything. why don't we just wait and see what happens rather than continuing to drag the same old junk speculation out and attacks out for no reason. think talking about improving the uniforms, the cheerleaders and the pep band should be what we discuss.

WebSpinner “ think talking about improving the uniforms, the cheerleaders and the pep band should be what we discuss.”

Don’t wear red uniforms, ever. Our Cheerleaders are starting look like William & Mary’s. Our pep band can only rival the UR student singer that didn’t know the words to the National Anthem.

Spinner Hardt has said a couple times it was his call.

oh, so now we believe him? just would be nice to read something positive and not beat a horse which has been dead for years.

Hell I don’t believe half of what comes out his mouth. Tho he’s pretentious enough that he thinks we should believe him no matter what. Sounds like u don’t believe him either & that’s a problem when the AD is just full of it. What u get when the school sells u on a fake hiring process.

I don't think we can really make an accurate assessment of our offseason until we know the results of the coaches' cookoff. There was no update on the official mens b-ball account. Anyone know?

Given how our social media posts after wins and losses, I suspect a close 2nd place finish for the Moondog.

Major upset. That's the one thing we beat VCU consistently.

Speaking of social media how many D1 schools have both their AD and their head mens basketball coach without a Twitter account? We have to be one of the few in the whole country. Even our mens assistant coaches rarely tweet, Jenkins is only 1 who does with some regularity. Yet as soon as Kim Lewis goes to Mercer he's all over social media. Directive must come from the top.

There really is no excuse for this. Today's teenagers are so into Twitter and Instagram that we are missing out on a very simple way to reach out to recruits as well as the fan base.

I understand that this probably does not make or break very many recruiting battles. But if all else is equal and we are looking for the slightest of edges in picking up our targets this is something that would take basically no effort but may help tip the scales in our favor.

I can't even imagine how bad Mooney would be on Twitter. It's probably a good thing he stays off there. But Crutcher is on Twitter, so the directive isn't coming from the very top.

re: top just meant for men's bball. Also my apologies, sources tell me Hardt does have an account...

Any one know if we competed? Did coach add 6 cloves of garlic to his recipe instead of 5? Did he have a good feel for the kitchen? Did he plate with tremendous fluidity? We demand to know.

From the RTD...

"Both cooked with the assistance of a professional chef, with Rhoades winning the judges award. Richmond’s Mooney won the People’s Choice honor."

Not sure how to interpret this. 2nd in the standings but 1st in our hearts?

Just as Mooney likes his competition. There are no losers, everyone goes home with a trophy at the end of the night.

He would have won first in both if some of you weren't so negative about this event. He probably could have ended up with a championship-caliber chef, but instead he had to settle for some schlep. Enjoy your self-fulfilling prophecy!

only 22% of americans have twitter accounts and certainly less than that are even active. to me, anyone avoiding most social media gives them a plus. maybe our coaches monitor tweets of recruits but choose not to be on there. not an age deal, just a preference for me, am more of a private person than one who thinks everyone wants to know what i am doing. have friends who have their entire lives out there like where they are having lunch or where they are shopping, etc. and it is just funny not interesting. just listening to sports radio down here it seems more of a journalist deal, they are all on it, follow a lot of people and are just so excited when someone retweets something they tweeted like it is a big deal or something, it is not and don't really want to hear about what they are doing, the show is about sports not them, although they don't seem to realize that.

Spinner you struck me as someone really into the Tweets. I don't have it either but this use would be for professional purposes. The price of doing business. It would not be for what Mooney's having for breakfast (Oatmeal probably). Sorry I didn't think that had to be stated. The 65+ crowd would also not be the target market either so you're good sticking with the sports and talk radio.

Only 22%. Huge number. I think you might be understating it’s influence.

Recruiting is in no small part about showing the love. It’s a simple thing to just follow guys you’re interested in, retweet or like their stuff.

With the perception that we have so many things going against us in recruiting, I’d expect our staff to make good use of commonly accepted methods of showing interest. Table stakes.

Yep. Coaches do not need to be on twitter. I don't think Tony Bennett is on twitter and he just won a national title.

Oh come on. When mOaneY wins a national title I give him permission to quit twitter. Are you freaking kidding me? Mooney gives no impression of effort. Being on Twitter at least could give some impression of relevance. Seems to work for Buzz Williams and Chris Mack.

A10 coaches on Twitter:

Mike Rhoades
Anthony Grant
Travis Ford
Matt McCall
David Cox
Mark Schmidt
Billy Lange
Jeff Neubauer
Keith Dambrot
Ashley Howard
Dave Paulsen
Jamison Christian

A10 coaches not on Twitter
Bob McKillop
Chris Mooney

So, yeah, coaches don’t need to be on Twitter but most of our direct competitors are.

So, if this is a tell all, Davidson and Richmond should finish 13th and 14th in the A-10 every year.

Yes, he clearly suggested that being on Twitter is a "tell-all." Come on dude, stop inventing things.

It's clear that Mooney is behind the times here. Is it critical? Not entirely. Is it important to this generation of kids? Probably. McKillop is an outlier with 30-something years of a track record of winning and making the NCAAs, not to mention recruiting and winning with a kid named Steph.

If Mooney had those credentials, none of us would be talking about this. Since he's not, it's worth asking: Why wouldn't he have a presence on social media when virtually every other coach in our league and in the state does? And could being on there help give him any type of advantage, or at least get him on even ground, with some recruits? At this point, he should be doing everything and anything he can to turn this ship around fast.
