I hate to appear contrary, but I think that we need to take a breath and give Hardt some room and allow him to take in the background and environment at UR, and make his decisions based upon what he thinks to be in the best interests of UR. He has not been given a chance.
I think that many on this board, most of with whom I typically agree with respect to the tenor of their posts, have been particularly harsh with Hardt. But regardless of who may have endorsed him or been influential in having him take the job as AD, and regardless of what he does with Mooney this year, I am inclined to give him an opportunity to succeed or fail based on his own decisions and how they play out. I think that many are coming down way too hard on him and not giving him a fair chance. How long has he been here? The announcement of his hire was a little over a year ago.
I think the same is true, but to a much lesser degree, with respect to Russ Huesman. I think Russ will succeed and make us all proud once he is able to overcome the departure of Rocco and those singularly loyal to Rocco that probably kept them from performing at the level to which they were capable.
In my mind, the true culprit of all of this malignity we are now experiencing with regard to the two major sports at UR is a direct result of the previous hire. Keith Gill did nothing with respect to oversight or leadership. With Gill, IMO, it was not only the Rocco thing which was handled horribly but also his lack of interest and consequent lack of involvement with what was taking place in basketball. Things were not what they should have been for many more than the last two years.
And worth mentioning in this conversation are those, among whom I count myself, who may be better served with a little more patience...in view of the circumstances.
What do we want and when do we want it?
Soooo, Imma take a very deep breath, get behind Lax (men's and women's) and the diamond Spiders so as to get me my fix through the Spring season, and with respect to basketball imma wait yet again for next season...believing that things will be better.
