Gilly in the NBA

Bench is doing way better than the starters. Gilly needs to be able to put the ball in the basket (no shots so far), but he's showing the other facets of his game well in his chances on the court.

LOL, Grizzlies gave up a 10-point lead with just over 3 minutes to play, helped by a tech on Ziarie Williams for pulling up on the rim after a dunk. Anyway, we're headed to OT at 102.

Not much second-half run for Gilly, but he's at a game-high +17. Did have one turnover to go along with three assists, but overall not making a huge impact on the box score tonight.

The tech with under a minute to play:

Grizz were up 8 at the half. but Blazers have closed it to 1 early in the third. Rose is still out, but only 5 minutes so far for Gilly. Two assists and that block, no shots.

There was also this, but I guess he didn't get credited with an assist for it:

Dang, what a turnaround. Grizz fell behind by 12 with eight minutes to go, then closed the game on a 26–2 run for their first win of the season.

(Gilly wasn't involved, as he was on the court as the Blazers built their lead and had a bad turnover and got pulled just before the comeback. Smart was huge in turning the tide as soon as he came back on the court.)

Gilly had some impressive +/- numbers the 2 games before last night. He is obviously not taking a lot of shots. One of the things I heard him say in an interview is to make it in the NBA you have to understand what your role is and how you add the most value to the team. Hopefully, having one of the highest assist ratios per minute played, high assist to turnover ratio and high steal ratio are enough to allow him a long career in the NBA as a roll player.

Most guys who sit at the end of the bench don't last long in the NBA, because each team adds new plyers every year.

I got a high steel ratio. Sucks at airport security. :(

Gilyard 2/2 from 3 with 6 points at the half tonight. There is a chance that after this game he will have the highest season total +/- on the grizzlies.

Tight game with 8 minutes to go. Gilly still with 6 points and did miss a pair of FTs at the end of the 3rd. Up to 4 assists though.

Getting lots of praise on Twitter, er, X tonight. Meanwhile, Smart and Bane can't make buckets to save their lives.

Grizz fall to 1–7 after dropping a 108–102 decision to the Heat.

Gilly and Roddy tied for team-high +/- at +10. Bane and Smart combined to shoot 8-for30, while Ziarie Williams was 1-for-9.

He doesn't have enough assists to qualify for the official NBA leader list, but Gilly would be third in A/TO at 7.5.

My understanding is the stat requires a minimum of 200 assists for a full season, prorated based on how many games your team has played. So by my math, he would need 20 assists at this point to qualify (200 assists / 82-game season * 8 Grizz games = 19.5), but he only has 15 against 2 turnovers.

This unofficial one must have lower minimums and has him on there:

Nice write-up about the Grizzlies three 2-way players and positive Gilly comments ..

sounds like Rose is still out as Grizzlies host the Jazz tonight, Ziaire Williams also out for Memphis and Walker Kessler out for the Jazz.

I see a Grizzlies win tonight, hoping Gilly can add a 6/5/4/3 +10 stat line in 16 minutes.

I believe Gilyard started for Memphis tonight, very cool. They might be trying to see it Smart is better when he is not the primary ball handler.

3 points, 3 assists, 1 turnover for Gilly after 1st, in 9 minutes of play. He's +2, Jaren Jackson is +4 and all other Grizzlies are minus on the night as Grizz down 2 after 1Q.

Twitter NBA commenters not knowing who he is, is actually pretty funny.

6 points on 2-of-4 from deep plus 7 assists and just the 1 turnover at the half. But both he and the Grizz are –13, unfortunately.

Another triple for Gilly. Smart has 4 points on 1-for-7 shooting including 0-for-4 from deep, and only 1 board and 1 assist (on that latest Gilly bucket).

If you aren’t watching this game go watch. He is the spark!! About to have a double double. 12 and 8 and just so much passion!!!

Smart fouled out, so it's Gilly down the stretch. Came in and immediately made a stepback but then missed a three. Now with 14 points, tied with Jackson for second on the team behind Bane's 37.

3 minutes left in the game and Gilyard somehow hs the 2nd most rebounds for the Grizzlies, leads in assists, I believe also 2nd in points.

Gilyard was definitely a bright spot for the Grizzlies tonight. He was getting a lot of appreciation during the game from announcers, and did the post-game press with Bane.

Nice comeback, but Grizz just couldn't get over the hump. Impressive showing by Gilly.

34 minutes, 14 points on 5-for-10 including 4-for-9 from deep, 8 assists, 5 boards (3 offensive), a steal, and just two turnovers.
We are not surprised by what you can do when given the opportunity, keep pressing forward!
