I don't think having his son on the team has anything to do with it. There was a time when I would have said Goose and Tyler were easily the best athletes on the team. Now it is not as clear. The roster is now much more athletic then it was just a few years ago. Longwood, opening game in 2018-2019, the difference in athleticism was scary and to add insult to injury the Spiders lost. I couldn't believe my eyes. That was Goose's freshman year and when he got to play he quickly became the most athletic. Then Burton came the following year. That was then and this is now. This team does not have the same makeup.
The thing about basketball is it takes more than just athleticism, so I am not making any judgments about who the best players are/were etc.
There is significantly more competition at the guard spots and so it is very likely that Goose does not get as many minutes as he has in previous years as 97 also pointed out. Time will tell, but I don't think there is any player at the present time who has guaranteed minutes, other than Burton. I do think that the graduate guys will start, especially at the beginning of the season, but that doesn't mean they play the most minutes. Going to be fun to watch this group of guys forming a new identity. Go Spiders!
(Note: I am not a fan of jock sniffing, but I am going to look for plenty of sunshine)
