Game Thread: VMI 11/7

I think these types of discussions are the ones the poster who asked you to leave were talking about.

I also think they will be few and far between and be completely overshadowed by your amble informative additions...

Agree. & I always understood why the other poster said as much. There r group parent texts that r a better fit for some people for example. I also like SpiderDad75's contributions here but u got guys like me, VT4700 & others who will not treat him any differently. Now he'll also obviously get the posters who like to jock sniff and blow sunshine up your ass. To each their own.

Pretty crazy how negative this thread is. We have had much worse results against worse opponents in opening games in recent years. We won by 21 points and had a completely dominant 2nd half. We have so many new pieces and we exceeded my expectations at least.

I don't think having his son on the team has anything to do with it. There was a time when I would have said Goose and Tyler were easily the best athletes on the team. Now it is not as clear. The roster is now much more athletic then it was just a few years ago. Longwood, opening game in 2018-2019, the difference in athleticism was scary and to add insult to injury the Spiders lost. I couldn't believe my eyes. That was Goose's freshman year and when he got to play he quickly became the most athletic. Then Burton came the following year. That was then and this is now. This team does not have the same makeup.

The thing about basketball is it takes more than just athleticism, so I am not making any judgments about who the best players are/were etc.

There is significantly more competition at the guard spots and so it is very likely that Goose does not get as many minutes as he has in previous years as 97 also pointed out. Time will tell, but I don't think there is any player at the present time who has guaranteed minutes, other than Burton. I do think that the graduate guys will start, especially at the beginning of the season, but that doesn't mean they play the most minutes. Going to be fun to watch this group of guys forming a new identity. Go Spiders!

(Note: I am not a fan of jock sniffing, but I am going to look for plenty of sunshine)

Best post of the day .. thx u

Richmond I don’t disagree with that. Except your 1st sentence. Regardless Goose is still 1 of the best athletes. My comment to 97 was about last year. I’ve said idk if goose will match where he was mpg, but that in close games I think he’ll be near it.

Dad said we have defenders who can play over Goose that r better athletically. I questioned that. Then it turned into loyalty taking it personal & more depth of the team. Yet somehow I’m the bad guy. Ok cool hook ‘em.

Dji Roche Randolph Dread? No no no no.

bigelow perhaps but I wouldn’t say they r competing for too much time.

if u want make a statement like that & get called on it, defend it no? Not an unreasonable ask for a message board imo. If u think guys r better athletes fine but u r watching something I’m not. I root for all our guys I have for 30 years. I think if u ask anyone on team or staff Goose would always be named as 1 of best athletes no questions asked.

have a good night go spiders.

Another classic thread. But luckily it's a game thread and that game is over! So this one will quickly disappear.

Goose is an integral part of the team and will continue to be so. It's pretty obvious. Hopefully the debate will continue though bc that means other guys are playing well and their play demands more minutes - it will mean good things for the team and that is the one thing I think we can all agree on.

(I hope.)

VMI might be a little better than what some on this board have said. Kenpom, which is not very accurate this early in season has them at 295. A 21 point win seems very respectable compared to other games our team has played against worst teams early in the season over the past 6 years.

It's all good message board banter. What this place is for right? I don't take anything personally, nor do I think this thread went negative. Thought it was a quite healthy debate on who should be starting/playing minutes, match-ups.

Only time will tell how this plays out.

VMI showed hustle but little ability to make shots (25%/21%), which will hurt them constantly. If they're a mid pack team in league and not a bottom feeder is best case IMO.

For sure 97. & I bet we agree a lot more than not anyway. I will add that in my experience anybody who says “you’re taking it personal”…about 9/10 times the person who says it is actually the one taking it personal. It’s like the George Constanza instinct.
