A 20-loss season

Spiders are now a buy game.
We might need those games now in order to pay our athletes. We all know this money is not coming out of the endowment and will need to be all private funded. I have a hard time believe UR hoops can get $3 million for the men - and lets assume $1 million for the women on annual basis in donations JUST for paying the athletes.

So yeah - get some buy games to help pay our players.

I agree with Mo that Hardt should speak of this season being unacceptable. Please don’t pull
the Hunt injury card as we were on a downhill spiral even with him. The Dayton game was one
of the few games I saw hope in improvement, but still not a good team but one who played with
a lot of heart. We played tough and battled to the end.

I agree with you guys, that is the way legit inspired basketball programs operate. Heck, I remember Dutcher's second season at SDSU - he followed up NCAA in his first season with a 21-13 record missing NCAAs. After the season saw an interview with Dutcher saying let the program down, and was working to fix it. I was quite surprised, but that is what leadership and expectations look like. We make excuses at Richmond Basketball Inc.

But no, we will not hear anything like this, maybe someone will say they were disappointed. But we are in full long game mode here. If we don't start seeing results in the 26-27 season - Maybe. More likely there will have been another paradigm shift in the NCAA/conference alignment/NIL that we will be able to cite that is keeping lil ol Richmond down.

We will get a Morning Jolt email that will detail the success of the women's program, but then talk about the difficulties the men faced with all the new players, injuries, and the changing landscape of college basketball - but that UR has opted in to pay athletes and the future is bright for men's hoops.

The email will be 90% about the women, and then barely mention the men and just say they competed, and the future looks good.

Starting with Maryland NIT game, I attended 548 straight games in the Robins Center.
Since then, age, economics, and pandemic or life in general have meant I have missed 2 to 4 games a year.

This year I have attended 2…

Oops! Was continuing discussion from post #40

Treat this like a sales organization, set the players loose to negotiate buy games for us. You get a P5 team on the schedule you get a cut of the buy game money!

we are now a cupcake...those teams looking to stack a few easy non conference wins should be beating a path to our scheduler...the pathetic OOC schedule and joke of a MTE should have been a sign of things to come this year...I don't think it could get much worse...

Coach Mooney, AD Hardt and/or someone in a position of authority should formally address the fans after the season is concluded...UR has many loyal fans who have stuck with the program through it ups and many downs...they deserve so much better...I like to hear someone's acknowledgement that this year's results are not acceptable...and what we plan to do to rebuild the program...

do something different respect the Richmond fans!

Go Spiders!
Agree wholeheartedly.

If history is a guide, the next communication about mens basketball after A10 tourney elimination will be an announcement of the incoming transfer class in May/June with an adjoining solicitation for season ticket renewal.

From a former long time season ticket holder - this is the first season since 1970 that I did not attend a single MBB game. Thrown in the towel on this "program".

When the school gets serious about establishing a consistently competitive program, they will once again enjoy my full support. Until then, will stick with the Lady Spiders. Greatly reduces frustration level.
I'm with u....only a season Tix holder for 30 yrs and I'm done until there'/ appears to be more of a commitment..I will watch the men on ESPN+ but likely will attend very few games in the future...that said, roussell and the ladies have my full support!!!

Hardt may go on Bob Black AM afternoon radio show in April and express "disappointment" in the results this year but will be working with Mooney to make sure Spider basketball is more competitive going forward. Or Bob can just replay his interview from 2 years ago and 4 years ago where he said the exact same thing.

After that we will hear nothing from anyone in the MBB program until mid July when it is time fore season ticket renewal.

I too was a 30 year season tickets holder but gave it up 2 years ago. Haven't set foot in the RC this year. Administration doesn't care about winning, so why should we? By the way, it's pointless for UR to opt in to House settlement while keeping the current coach. It's just pissing good money away in my opinion. The entire program is a clown show and soft as a stick of butter.

Curious what people in this forum think of this response from Wes Miller, who is Cincinnati’s head coach. If you were a fan of the team, would the fact he is passionate about losing and holding himself accountable make you feel any better about how the season is going and him as a coach?

Maybe someone can explain why this settlement is good for the vast majority of mid-major level programs. The premise is that this is “revenue sharing”. But most of the commentary I see says that the institutions are going to have to raise more funds to be able to support the payment of the athletes. Something does not add up here.

Why would anyone pay more (or donate more) to see the same level of play and accomplishment?

Because if everyone else is doing it and you’re the odd one out, then you’ll be at the bottom of level and play and accomplishment.

if they called it profit sharing it wouldn't make any sense because most have no profit to share

Not one bit.
It's just words. "Holding oneself accountable" is such BS. What ... you're going to try harder now?
In this and every business, you either succeed or you fail. There may be legitimate reasons ... or excuses. Sometimes it on the coach and other times there are things out of his control. But being a martyr and saying "Hey, it's on me" doesn't give you a pass.

"Hey we sucked this year but at least our coach is taking the blame"? That does nothing for me.

I was hoping Wes Miller would have had a four year stop (at Richmond) to boost his resume further prior to jumping to a power conference. I think he could have come here and knocked it out of the ballpark. He had a couple of absolute studs on his UNC-G teams. Kind of like Hurley at URI - who was able to obtain a couple of top 100 recruits, Miller could have out talented the A10. Lot harder in that league at Cincy to to that.

I completely agree with you sman. To me these remarks are just platitudes. I brought it up because one of the criticisms of Mooney is how he conducts his post-game speeches and seemingly complacent attitude. While it might be nice to see some fire at times, to me this "I'm fired up and holding my self accountable" speech can only work so many times. At some point, actions speak louder than words. There are high expectations of Wes at a program like Cincinnati that has great history in basketball and is now in B12. He is on his 4th year and if I were a fan, hearing his response would do nothing for me either.

That's why of all the things to harp on Mooney/Hardt for, I don't get why some feel that one of them should be the way they handle press releases, post-game interviews, etc. What I care about is the results. All the important conversations between Hardt and Mooney and Mooney to the team should be behind closed doors. These public sentiments of needing to do better can only work so much to me before it comes across as theatrics.
