Fire Jim Miller

Overall JM did a decent job. Getting the stadium was a big deal. The Mooney contract was his worse decision.

still contend that if JM had lost CM to a big school and did not try and retain him, he would have been roasted on this board, probably worse. the only revisionist history on here is from those who refuse to admit it. we are always whining on here because we lose our coaches and yet JM retains one in the middle of him being a hot property and fans were glad, now we hate him for doing it.........DUH. cannot have it both ways guys, he did the right thing, it just did not play out as we all, ALL, thought it would.

You were more accurate when you downgraded your "all" to "most" in the other thread.

I remember very well the night after the Kansas game, with VCU's Sweet 16 game in the background, my friends talking about not getting into a bidding war with GT/BC/whoever. Anderson, Harper, and Geriot (?) were all leaving; it was the ultimate sell high situation. I don't have any idea if there was much of a buyout on that existing contract but I know they thought the new 10 year was absurd.

Ironically, those guys are now Mooney supporters.

You need new friends, obviously.

Jim Miller was paid lot of money by UR to "do the right thing". In hindsight, he most definitely did not "do the right thing" with a 10 year contract extension, message board posters be damned.
Yeah, I'm curious. What low mid-major coach without much consistent success gets a 10 year pass?

Right. Miller wasn't paid to do what the fans wanted. He was paid to do what was right for the program. He blew it.

And that I'm sure Miller brought up on the radio. These crazy message boards. Why on earth would he make a decision like that caring at all what posters were saying?

MO, you are saying you would have wanted CM to go to the big school and for us not to attempt to retain him? really do not recall you talking like that back then, not here but between you and me. was at san antonio for the sweet 16 against kansas and we had a ton of people there and our hotel was humming and happy and even after losing, the consensus was, we have to go after retaining our coach whatever we have to do. this is all part of those on here who say we are not committed, what JM did was show we were most definitely committed by signing the coach, giving him some real substantial promises to improve recruiting, travel, facilities and the like. again, it did not work out as planned but that happens, can name several hires which did not work out but when they were inked, we all thought it was great, things don't always work out, sometimes they do. the point is, you cannot come on here and complain that the school does not show any commitment but then scream and holler at them when they do, well one can but one looks stupid to take both sides of the road. hindsight is wonderful but life does not work that way

So whats the solution? Just throw your hands up and say "oh well, we tried"?

As has been stated by others, if the school wanted to show it was making a commitment, it also needed to make the commitment to get out of the contract if necessary. We pretended we were a big baller and then bahaved like a pauper.

Jim doesn't care about the message board. Every time he has a microphone, he tells us as much. That being said, he mustnt have felt any pressure from us whatsoever, right? He is/was a seasoned guy. He didn't know any better?

I hope we have all learned something here.

I put the blame on coaching. Mooney should be gone right now. This season is totally lost. Everyone is thinking about "NEXT YEAR". Next year we might get 20 wins HOWEVER. There are no guarantees of a NCAA bid because the A-10 has turned into a two bid league basically at best. Mooney hasn't performed really well since 2011. That was eight years ago. So its been almost a decade of mediocre and hope.

UVA made similar mistakes with Pete G and Dave L, big donors that committed to their paychecks honored the buyouts. We may be limited but wrong AD did not have the cache to encourage UR big donors to replace CM and write checks for replacement. Bad hires from the top down, Ayers, Gill, and CM.

Man, if Mooney would have not been signed to that albatross of contract, we would have been upset that he left for another job for like 5 minutes 6 or 7 years ago, instead we get to still figure out why he is still here.

Well, now the players aren’t even waiting until the end of the year to transfer out.

The problem with this is it presumes we would have A) lost CM within 5 years and B) we would not have hired a competent replacement who would have made us forget that we'd lose CM.

I get why JM made the offer but it feels like he didn't project for the one totally unacceptable scenario in all of it, which is being saddled with a coach who can't replicate what earned him the extension. Seems like he could have put together a better Pros and Cons matrix.

How is it that you have special insight into what happened with Buck that the rest of us don't have?
I am aware of what happened with Buck, you guys are definitely barking up the wrong tree here. He got several passes and ultimately lost his get out of jail free cards. Let's move on, unfortunate for everybody.

4700 clearly is a staff member, family member, friend or former player/access-craver. It's beyond obvious. No random graduate of UR would show up a year ago and proceed to be so vehement in his defense of a sinking ship. It defies all logic.

Well you know the old saying "I'd rather have them begging for more than backing away from too much"

Can you blame anything on Mooney? Maybe you have but can't recall those posts? So refresh my mind on what blame you put on Mooney?

I have said I don't like that he fouls too early when up 3. I agreed that Jacob should not have played 40 minutes last game. I agreed that no starters should have been in the final 4 minutes last game. I agreed our offense and defense looked bad last game. But, I will never agree with those that think he and not Buck should be blamed for Buck getting himself dismissed from the team.

Ultimately Buck is on Buck, BUT why was Mooney trying to woo him from transferring, and when that failed he was dismissed all of the sudden? That is why Fore slapped the poison pill (season ender) on Mooney so quickly decisively. Two can play that game Mr. Fake nice guy!

CM may have been fighting with administration on behalf of Buck. Fore's body language told me something was up with about five games left.

What shocked me about Khwan is that people knew he was going to transfer before Mooney did and Mooney was reportedly shocked when Khwan did tell him.

It kind of tells you how close he is with some of the players and how is pulse for the team is either off or just not that close.
