Andre Wesson - 2016 Offer

Thanks for posting the great video, above! Andre reminds me a lot of Terry Allen, and we all know how that worked out. He also has unusually strong ball-handling skills for a guy his size. Plus, he could play the same position as Terry for us, since we will need help at the 4 next season. He also plays for one of the top-rated high-schools in Ohio, so he is not usually doing this stuff against weak teams. Finally, the video clips above would be impressive if they were from an entire year's action. The fact that they are from a single game means a lot! He would make an already outstanding incoming group of recruits significantly stronger. Andre, we hope you join-in and and make it a "Fab 4" for Richmond.

Great clip! Thanks for posting it. It works in leadership classes when the topic is delegation. Who do you delegate the critical last shot to?
If anyone has anymore clips on Andre, from this season, I volunteer to watch them...

Andre lit it up again tonight...he's really coming on strong. Would love to see him in a Spider uniform, but I still don't have a great feeling...feel like he's waiting for a high major offer that's going to come.

(Team lost tonight, but they were without Kaleb...sprained ankle.)

SF, got the same feeling that he is waiting for a P5 offer. Hope we are wrong. OSC

Seems like the kind of kid we never get.
I have been to and watched many UVA games this year. I see a bench full of kids that will never play there. I always wonder why those kids don't transfer to a school like UR and get to play and not waist their 4 years of eligibility. Not just UVA, but all the P5 schools. If a kid is honest with himself he must know pretty soon after a season or so whether he is going to play or not. Does the ego part of being on a P5 team outweigh actually being able to play and possibly be a star somewhere else? Seems more of the kids are figuring this out and the stigma of transferring has all but disappeared. Sure has helped us at the QB position in football.

Another big game for Andre: OSC

"Pickerington Central 61, Westerville South 54
Central rallied to defeat South in the second game of the Play-by-Play Classic.

The Tigers improved to 13-4 and South fell to 13-3, losing its first game in Ohio this season. The Wildcats’ previous two losses came in the City of Palms Classic in Fort Myers, Fla., in late December.

The Wildcats played without 6-10 junior center Kaleb Wesson, an Ohio State recruit who sprained an ankle in a 64-45 win at Hilliard Bradley on Jan. 22.

Central fell behind 18-9 early in the second quarter before Jalen Tate and Ibi Watson led a comeback. Tate hit a 3-pointer and both players scored on drives to help the Tigers pull even at 28 late in the half.

Andre Wesson followed with a dunk, giving South a 30-28 lead at halftime. He scored 19 of his game-high 27 points in the first half.

Central pulled ahead early in the third quarter and remained in control for most of the half.

The Tigers led by as many as 11 points before South staged a late comeback attempt, as Ennis Thomas scored seven consecutive points to help pull the Wildcats within 52-49 with 2:03 remaining.

Watson, however, hit six free throws in the final two minutes to seal the win.

“It was a great atmosphere,” Central coach Eric Krueger said. “It felt like a tournament type of game. Westerville South is a great team and I think we have a good team as well. It was a great battle.”

Tate scored 22 points, Watson had 18 and Sterling Manley added 13.

Thomas had 11 points for South.

“It’s a learning experience,” South coach Ed Calo said. “It’s just an opportunity for us to get better. There are things that we did defensively that we haven’t done all year long.”

Andre dropped 23 tonight in an easy win. Also named Ohio player of the week by ohhoops.com.

Andre had 17 points, 7 boards, and 3 steals tonight as our coaching staff was there in full force to see him go over 1000 points for his career.

Good to see we are continuing to show lots of "love" for Andre. Kids really do appreciate it when the whole staff shows up, and travels to do it.
He clearly is the kind of player who has the skills to play very early in his career, and he appears to have the DEFENSIVE SKILLS that could particularly earn him early PT. We could really use his defensive intensity, given that our top 3-4 defenders (if you count ANO, it is 4, if you count only our 3 graduating seniors it is 3) will be gone by the start of next fall's season. We seriously need Andre, and I truly hope we can "close the deal" with him. A potentially "pivotal" recruit for UR, if ever there has been one!

When you put the word love in quotes, are you suggesting that we say we love him but aren't entirely sincere about it?

We are doing all we can to get him. These are the recruiting battles we have to win, been on this kid for a while, can't let a johnie come lately swoop in and steal him now. I really like that our staff is doing all they can to get him.

Come in Andre, look at our class coming in, you could be a part of something special.

We can do everything within the bounds that the NCAA allows but if Ohio State is slow playing an offer to him, there isn't a lot more we can do. If OSU offers, he will be a Buckeye.

Come on Moliva, no need to hit me with a dose of hard cold reality while I am sitting up here in gray Connecticut suffering through an excruciatingly stressful high school season. Unfortunately you are probably correct, and I fear other big names lurking in the weeds as well. tOSU seems like the biggest threat though. He would top off a tremendous class for the Spiders.

In the article it writes, "Of the programs that have actually offered Wesson, though, Richmond seems to have caught his eye. He's officially visiting the Spiders Feb. 6. 'They're recruiting me harder than anyone else of late,' Wesson said. 'That will be a big trip for me.'"

The article ends by saying, "'I mean, every kid's dream is to play at the highest level,' Wesson said. 'But I have no problem playing in the Atlantic 10, which is where Richmond plays. It's a good level.'"

It seems as though we are his top interest right now. We have to see whether other big name programs come into consideration, but I love the effort our staff is making in reaching out to him. He would certainly top off an excellent recruiting class.

February 6, UMass at the RC! Be there!!!! Let's make the RC rock!!! OSC

this kid's the perfect last piece of this class. staff is all in. yes, every kid wants to play at the highest level, but every kid has to want to be appreciated like this, too. I like our chances even if a P5 school offers.

That is a good game to have him visit, it should be a blood bath. We will win that game by 20+, UMass might be the worst team in the A10 this year.

Ohio state certainly has a trump card with his brother going there. Plus does he want to go to osu or Maryland just to get overrecruited. See Andrew White. We have a lot to offer, most of which revolves around a lot of playing time with a great class. We are pulling out all of the stops but hope we have a really good option 2, if it doesn't work out. Can't go from a Wesson to a Smithen type recruit, if he says no

wesson's dad played for OSU too. But OSU only has one open scholarship for 2016. doubt they spend it on him. His brother won't be there for another year. he might be a transfer candidate after a couple years if he comes here (or goes somewhere other than OSU), plays well and then OSU has a need.

OSU in the house for Andre tonight...4-for-5 for 9 points in the first quarter.

Edit: 16 points for Andre at the half.

+1 97's comments above.

The key will be for OSU and Maryland both to have Andre only as a "back-up plan," which is likely, whether they will be up-front with this or not. Does it matter to a recruit to be "the man" and the" #! target," (as he clearly is for UR), or does it matter more just to say you got an offer from a "big-name" school, even if you sit on the bench for 3-4 years? I guess the answer depends on the recruit. We were able to get Terry Allen, who was also a big-time scorer, for a big-time school (Manville) in Texas, and that turned out very well, for both us and Terry! I see Andre as a perfect guy to step in and replace Terry, sooner rather than later! And Andre and Terry have similar body-types and similar aggressive offensive (and defensive) games.

Wow, look at the photo of Wesson in the above link, and tell me that's not the best snack bar menu EVER. Whatever high school concession that is, certainly puts ours to shame!
