Andre Wesson - 2016 Offer

Positive article for UR's chances of getting him and sounds like a guy who would fill TD's role and more if he can contribute on offense consistently.

He sounds more like a forward to me than Trey's role as mainly a guard/small forward. Still think we need another big man for next year, but we now have 2 open spots to fill with Josh's departure.

I agree 97 just thinking he seems to be a guy like TD who plays good D and gets to the basket offensively well who hopefully will finish better. And a big guy would be my number one priority also especially with PF getting no time.

Keep in mind that Andre is reported to have broad shoulders and long arms, a good jumper and good on defense. Our coaches likely see him as filling out while at UR and morphing into a husky 3 or a strong 4. He will not remain his current build based on his physical attributes and the likelihood of him getting bigger and stronger is validated by his brother's huskiness. Hope Andre chooses to join the Spider family. OSC

younger brother is 6'8" have to wonder if Andre has a growth spurt left in him

I trust our coaches ability to evaluate talent. We could certainly use a defensive "stopper," with guys at the SF position (Trey and Deion), both strong defenders, departing. Andre could be a good fit for us to get early PT, in part due to his defensive skill-set.

In the article posted as the last entry of the second page of this thread, Andre does mention Richmond first when listing the schools he is most interested in. That is always a good sign. The article does also say that he has been able to defend the other team's best offensive threat, and shut that player down, also a good sign. He is also mentioned as a forward, not a guard, yet if you watch his video he handles and shoots more like a guard. Finally, he notes that his relationship with the players and coaches is a very important factor, and it would be difficult to find a more likeable set of players and coaches than UR's. All of the above factors sound positive, but we have about three months before decision time. Let's hope that we keep in close touch with Andre, and that he continues to feel very positive about both his future UR teammates and coaches. I like the fit, the defense, and the potential to grow into a bigger forward for us.

I don't have anything against this guy, but the Spiders need a couple of beasts.

It appeared that there was a recruit at the game with his parents; all three were sitting just behind the bench. Any idea who this was? OSC

sure hope none of our recruits are reading our boards now

Again, I very much like our coach's ability to evaluate and recruit talent. Thanks for posting Darius' "highlights" video clips.

This is one of those videos that does not jump out and "pop," and immediately impress the viewer that this guy is ready to contribute, as a center, in his freshman year. However, that could be a good thing, and it could mean that he is flying under the radar. Assuming that our coaches have seen some things in him that are not apparent in the video, and that he is not attracting high-level offers, he could be one of those "diamonds in the rough," who will blossom at UR, like a Justin Harper.

Mooney was on the road watching Wesson tonight. He scored 33 in his game.
Good stuff. No use sitting around crying over spilled milk. Best way to cure all our woes is to keep reeling in talent. Would love to add Wesson to this class. Let's get Wesson and then another strong class in 2017 and we are in business.

It is fairly easy for the Ohio State coaches to catch a "local" game, but far more impressive, I believe, for UR's coaches to travel that far to see a guy we would like to have join the family. Hope he is impressed by the interest we are showing, and the likely playing time ahead.

It will depend on whether he wants to play and be a star, or sit on the end of the bench and never take his warm up jersey off.

We don't send our HC to a game in Ohio mid season for nothing. Mooney was there to be our closer. Ohio State swims in a different pool than us, they were there to watch their recruit.

Without trying to read anything into it other than that one of their assistants and one of ours have worked together...

Didn't an OSU assistant tip us off on Dominaus?

Good call on that. I believe it was Jeff Boals, who was mentioned as one of the OSU guys there last night.

Um, not sure I would be taking advice from that guy anymore.

I think Mooney was there to get a firm commitment from Andre and to convince his brother to switch to us too, then to give Matta the double bird salute on his way out the door.

Were those rims 8 feet? Never seen a kid dunk so easily. He's only 6'7", right? Something seems not to add up, cause he didn't need to jump very high at all to dunk. He must have incredible wingspan.

Hidden height in the arms. Just as good as regular height, maybe better.

Maybe he was exposed to cosmic gamma rays ala Reed Richards...all I know is he can throw down.
