2025 Baseball Season

We basically threw in the towel with pitchers after E-Rod's flop of a start. Smart to save Bilka for other games this weekend. Onto the next!

Topolski was pulled in favor of Bilka after one inning, giving up one run. Hopefully no injury? Don’t really understand the point of starting him if you’re gonna go to Bilka after an inning. Just start Bilka at that point.

2-1 is a great result this weekend. Hinchliffe/Reinke/Gruber has been a great pitcher stack so far. Gotta get E-Rod back in rhythm and our weekend rotations will be looking nice.
looking forward to you next reviews.

Gameday! Spiders (9-2) have an interesting two-game mid-week starting today vs Towson (3-7) at 1:30. Tomorrow, we have a rematch against Boston College (4-4) at 1:30. Both games are at home.

Towson is best known around the college baseball world for losing to UMES two weeks ago, who snapped their 55 game losing streak, which dated back to 2023. Towson recovered the next day by winning the final game of the series, but have since dropped four straight to UMBC and Holy Cross. They were picked to finish last in the CAA, so can't say this slow start has caught anyone by surprise. Player to watch would be Jordan Peyton, a redshirt Senior IF who was named to the CAA Preseason All-Conference Team and is slashing .275/.396/.450 with a team leading 18 total bases and 9 runs scored, along with 4 stolen bases.

Not much more to say about Boston College since we last saw them on Saturday. They got a scrappy 4-3 win against VCU on Sunday to round out their Central VA Challenge, scoring on a single, a fielding error, and a ground ball double play. They take on Longwood today.

According to the game notes, we are rolling with Peacock today and E-Rod tomorrow. I like Aoki giving Esteban a shot against another Power Five program. Would love to go 2-0, but if we just take care of business against Towson I think I'll feel alright.

Only one correction, we are 9-2 at present. I'm quite happy with where we are,

Just like on Sunday, the ESPN+ stream is suddenly unavailable right before first pitch. This is now two straight home games with this issue. That's unacceptable, especially for how we'll we've been playing. This team deserves to have as many eyes on it as possible.

We got off to a bit of a rough start with Peacock giving up a single and a double to plate a run and then a HBP, but that was all the damage.

Towson pitcher struggling mightily though...HBP, BB, K, double steal, BB, BB to force in a tying run, and then another HBP to force in a second one. Bases still loaded with one out.

Edit: WP lets another one in.

Edit 2: Spiders push it to 4–1 on a fielder's choice before Pacheco strikes out to end the inning.

Towson loaded the bases with no outs...single, steal, BB, bunt single. Fortunately we got a double play which only scored one run and then a fly out to end it. 4–2 Spiders.

New pitcher coming on for Towson, we'll see if he has any better control.

Edit: Well, I guess he's getting it over the plate, but that just means we can hit it now. Double and a single, and then an error on a fielder's choice plates both of those runners. 6–2 Spiders.

Edit 2: O'Brien homer makes it 8–2.

Topolski comes on and retires the side in the third, and now the Spiders are rolling in the bottom of the inning as the Towson pitcher can't find the plate again...BB, wild pitch, BB, Bernstein double to plate one, HBP, BB to plate another one. 10–2 Spiders, bases still loaded with no outs. New pitcher coming on for the Tigers.

Edit: Spiders score another one on a fielder's choice before Towson can end it.

We mercy ruled them...14–3. Bernstein and O'Brien with 4 RBIs apiece, Whitley with 3 runs. Pretty much all of the starters joined the party in some form except for Jaffe who was 0-for-3 with a HBP.
