I’m watching the Utah State-Boise State game and these teams are both athletic and don’t run a set offense every time down the floor. Watching them I believe our roster isn’t worse than either of these teams, but you wouldn’t know it from watching how we play the game.

It got me thinking, where are our points coming from next year? Right now my guess is Neal Quinn leads us, but we’re going to need at least one player to average double digits with Tyler gone. I don’t have any idea who will or can step up and play a role

Lying alum pays the price

One of our law school's least-distinguished graduates has been censured by Colorado officials for lying about the 2020 election. She should be disbarred.

As FOX will soon discover, the chickens are coming home to roost.

Antoine Davis - Detroit Mercy

Davis finished 3 points shy of Maravich's record for college points. gave it an amazing run, coming close when nobody else has. yes, 5 years vs 3 years. but still. heck of a shooter.

Detroit Mercy coach is now lobbying for a CBI invite. I get it. he wants it for the kid. but the team is 14-19. come on. it's over. or does the CBI invite them just for the ratings?

Top 4 seed

We still have hopes for a top 4 seed. Looking at the standings, it's going to be really hard to catch VCU, Dayton, and St Bona because VCU is 4 games ahead of us, and Dayton and St Bona are 2 games ahead and each hold the tie breaker on us. So, with one spot left, I am looking at our game against St Louis as a huge one if we get on a run going into that one.

1. Beat GW, Loyola, and LaSalle and get to 8-6 going into the St Louis game.
2. Beat St Louis, win 2 of our last 3 after that and get to 11-7.
3. Have St Louis lose 3 more not counting us, which I see happening with their schedule.
4. We and St Louis finish 11-7 and we have tiebreaker.

* Sorry in advance if this is too positive for this board and it bothers people. It's just the way I am. I never give up on goals, while still being realistic. Will it be tough to win 6 of our last 7? Yes. Odds are probably against it, especially if we don't get better offensive production. But, can we do it? Yes, I think it's very doable. Not saying it will happen. Just saying, IMO, every game is still important and we still have a lot to play for.

Guard play

Observation: Watching the last few games, it is pretty clear that our guard play is killing us. Dji has great length and great defensive instincts, Randolph brings great intensity, intangibles, Goose is a really good defender. But none of them are offensive scoring threats. Mooney had banked upon Nelson being his next great scoring PG and while I still think he has that potential, right now he is so mentally broken, it is almost cringeworthy when he is in the game that you end up feeling bad for him.

Roche is a great scoring option but he is easy to defend right now because whomever is out there as the other guard is such a non scoring threat that opposing teams will just lock on Roche and let other guard dribble around aimlessly. Our offense is a complete mess right now and to me it starts and kind of ends with lack of scoring threat with the guard position and I honestly don't know what we can do about it for the rest of the season, but we need to hope that Trevor Smith is the real deal or things aren't going to look that different next year.

London’s deal

Financially, there is no way Mike London loses, even if his team does.

Look through a football coach’s contract and some interesting things stick out. The Times-Dispatch examined London’s five-year William & Mary deal, agreed to on Nov. 13, 2018, and discovered the following in the 18-page document, beyond his base salary of $350,000:

* “If the Football Team completes its season with a winning percentage of .500 or less, and does not make the FCS Playoffs, Coach will receive a $10,000 increase; If the Football Team completes its season with a winning record, Coach will receive a $20,000 increase.”

* The incentive compensation clause includes bonuses of $10,000 for being named CAA coach of the year, $10,000 for being recognized as the Eddie Robinson FCS coach of the year, $10,000 for a CAA regular-season championship, $5,000 for each FCS playoff victory (or bye earned), $50,000 for a national championship, $10,000 for a win over an FBS opponent, and $2,500 for beating rival University of Richmond, London’s alma mater.

* London receives $50,000 annually for making himself “available to the media to promote the Football Program and the University.”

* London receives $20,000 annually for fundraising/community outreach participation “designed to increase awareness of and support for the Football Program and the University.”

* “At the conclusion of the initial term of this Agreement (January 31, 2024), Coach will receive $30,000 for each year of this Agreement ($150,000 total), provided Coach is not terminated for cause and provided he has not resigned.”

* During the length of the contract and through any extensions, London “will be furnished the use of a late-model car appropriate for a Division I Head Football Coach.” He is responsible for “regular oil and filter changes,” gas and insurance costs.

* W&M paid London $20,000 for moving expenses and financed temporary housing, if needed, through March 31, 2019.

* London started the job with an annual salary pool of $800,000 for 10 assistants. Two-year contracts could be offered to offensive and defensive coordinators - "with incentives for statistical excellence" - while other assistants operated with one-year contracts. A bonus pool of $30,000 was available for assistants if the Tribe reaches the playoffs.

* London and W&M agreed that he should “use best reasonable efforts to assist and promote the University’s Athletics Program by soliciting and encouraging contributions to and support for the Tribe Club and the University’s intercollegiate sports program. Coach shall also make periodic appearances for the Tribe Club at regional events and activities, as requested by the Club’s President of the Director of Athletics.”

* William & Mary “agrees that it shall use its best reasonable efforts to facilitate remunerative opportunities for Coach with the companies and entities with which the University has entered into an agreement, including but not limited to shoe, equipment, and apparel manufacturers, provided that these business opportunities do not interfere with or detract from his duties as Head Football Coach.”

* London automatically receives a one-year extension for each season that results in the Tribe advancing to the FCS playoffs.

* If dismissed for the program's on-field results, London would receive the equivalent of his annual base salary (plus yearly increases and bonuses to the date of termination). That would be his severance package.

"The University's obligation to make such payment is expressly conditioned upon Coach actively seeking, in good faith and with due diligence, gainful employment during the period of continued payments of base salary and retention benefits, unless this requirement is waived in writing by the Director of Athletics."
London - the former Richmond, Virginia and Howard coach - has led the Tribe to records of 5-7 (2019), 1-2 (spring 2021) and 6-5 (2021).

NET rankings

What an absolutely horrific system. Imo it is ruining cbb. This has been the most uninteresting season on memory. Too many NET ranking inconsistencies to point out, and each of them causes the system to be worthless. Teams with 12-13 losses in top NET and because of that they are guaranteed to dance. Think about that… every one of the teams that beat WV (13 losses- 13 teams) got a quad 1 win, and hence each of those teams NET climbs much higher. Obviously it wasnt too hard to beat WV this year, or Iowa St, Ark and a bunch of others. Mediocre teams only playing mediocre teams home/home proves nothing. They get ranked high early because of pre-season predictions and a 11 game OOC where the big teams schedule each other. And after that, the rankings are almost set if a P6 team wins 50% of conference games. Its a disaster really.
Makes for very little drama and too many teams getting in having poor seasons.

Top 25

it’s happening slowly but surely. The top 25 is losing mid major teams. If you consider The big East appropriately a major conference. Houston AA and I believe moving to the big 12, SDSU, Gonzaga and StMarys are the only mid majors included. No A10, No mo. Valley, etc. Basketball could end up like bifurcated football. If the Spiders and the A10 generally don’t step up we’re going to end up on the wrong side of that.

Peter Thomas: Player Personnel Decisions

I do credit Peter Thomas for doing one thing. Giving a big middle finger these past few games to Mooney's player personnel decisions and Mooney's inability to build experience with young players to benefit us down the road. .

We saw Noyes last night do what I think we all thought he would be able do, which is meaningful contribute to this team. I would hold back on calling him a star, but certainly this is a kid who should have been getting 10 minutes per game this year, getting meaningful game experiences.

He also got Jaynel back in the fold of things and while Jaynel still is lost out there at times,, it is also pretty clear, he is our starting PG of the future, so back benching him as Mooney did wasn't helping the future.

And lastly Goose. Goose was averaging low to mid 30's in minutes the last few games under Mooney. Under PT, 27 minutes, 24 minutes, and 18 minutes last night. PT realizes what some on here have said all year, Goose is not a great fit for the make-up of this team and playing him major minutes at the end of lost season does the future program no good.

These changes haven't translated into success on the court because everything is so effed up now, we could have Red Aurerbach as our interim and he couldn't unravel the mess, Mooney left Peter Thomas with.

But I do see Peter Thomas building towards next year. This season is lost. Peter Thomas knows it and we see it in his player personnel decisions. I doubt this translates into much because Mooney will be back in full control of these decisions but maybe, just maybe, it will empower Peter and the other assistant coaches to be more forceful with Mooney next year about some of his dubious player personnel decisions.
