A couple of thoughts on this team and the game today.
1. I hope we appreciate this year for what its going to be. This group is special. They're gonna win 25-ish games, likely at least play for the A-10 Championship, and barring something strange, I think get an at-large. If you take the non-senior/grads: Doogan, Ullstrom, Sweeney, Dewey and Newell ... I think they'd transform any program into a Top 50 program immediately next year. Obviously, im not wishing anything. I don't know anything about Richard or Swider, but my guess is they're equally talented. He's done a masterful job recruiting. We're incredibly long for a mid-major, they can all shoot...... and he has them prepared every time they play.
2. I don't want to gloss over Doogan, Ullstrom, Budnik or Hill's contributions, but what Ally Sweeney has done this year so far is incredibly special, IMO.... and we're not nearly what we have been without her. I think Roussell touched upon this recently as well and rightfully so.
3. This was an awful matchup for us today. Tennessee obviously just lays over us athletically and we clearly struggled, but still managed to play them basically even for three of the four quarters. These girls are gritty and Roussell clearly doesn't like to lose.... but its just hard to prepare for what they did to us today with no real answer athletically. That being said, Texas is like 25x better than this Tennesee team, so yeah its all matchups. Booker could probably play small forward for some lower level men's teams.... and they might legitimately win the National Championship. I guess all im trying to say is we're very tough, and I'm super proud of the way they play.
4. Sadly, we're in trouble tomorrow. This is just a bad setup for us. I wish these games were reversed. We can't possibly have any legs left after today... and Alabama is likely at least as good as Tennessee.
I'm really looking forward to watching them for the rest of the year.... and I'm praying we recognize what we have, that Roussell loves it here, and whatever extension that he signed after the season last year..... that we quadruple it and buy him some land somewhere desirable that he'll never want to leave.
