VCU Offensive Rebounding Makes Them a Winner-Why Can't UR Just Try the Same?

I watched the last 10 minutes of the VCU v. Dayton game last night. VCU dominated their own offensive boards. They would take a 3, miss, rebound, shoot, miss, rebound, and keep going. VCU had 23 offensive rebounds last night! Meanwhile, year after year and counting, the Spiders shoot and run to the other side of the court- one shot and done. Why not at least try it out? Crash the board when we shoot and see what happens. Several of the close losses could have been wins with a few offensive boards and second and third chance shots. I just don't get it.

I watched the final 5 mins last night of the VCU win at Dayton. Everything Bob posted above is spot on. Sickens me that VCU is just dominant on the boards, yet Mooney plays the passive game. I wish someone would bring this up in interviews in terms of VCU approach & success vs his softness & failure. So tired of the same old same old.

And they don't even have a strong 5, just a bunch of wiry guys who have desire and can jump.

If you take two teams that are fairly evenly matched and one attacks the boards and the other runs away from them to "fend off the fast break", the team that fights for it will win 95 times out of 100. So why do we handicap ourselves in that way at a fundamental level?
We're happy with the 5, two times over.

Well it's about a 98% certainty that Odom will move onward and upward whilst Moon plays the long game. Heck wonder what the odds are on number of vcu coaches before moon retires. And somehow Philly special Bob will celebrate the number

That’s going to go in our next game program. “Chris Mooney holds the program record for most games played against different VCU coaches.”
