VCU GAME

I went back to take a look at the seasons Davidson and UR have had since Davidson joined the A-10 with a focus on conference finish. Interesting in that Davidson's average placement has been 4.7 and UR 5.5 during that time. Median place is identical at 4.5. Standard deviation is nearly identical. 5th place or below, each have 3 seasons. Davidson does have one regular season conference championship and two NCAA appearances during that team, but in terms of conference finishes, there isn't really a material difference between the two programs over the last six seasons.
This is going in John Hardt's next AD e-mail on the state of the athletic program.

The summary of our season will read something like this. The UR Men's basketball program enjoyed an outstanding season, beating two SEC programs Kentucky and Vanderbilt, rising as a high in 19th in the AP rankings, and earned an NIT birth*. Jacob Gilyard also enjoyed personal success capturing the NCAA all time steals record**

* UR was unable to participate in the NIT due to NCAA COVID restrictions
**extrapolated out that steal record would have been broken if not due to multiple COVID shutdowns.

It won't say "a rising tide lifts all boats in our athletics regatta"? NOOOO. It has to say that. No matter what. Nothing else illustrates his pretentiousness better.

VCU gameday. Finally. I'm going to be optimistic. I think we r overdue to come up in a big spot and step up here. Gilly said it well in RTD..."we know what we're capable of. We haven't been great yet." The players know.

We can and should get a must win. But where VCU has the real edge is mentally. Not talking smarts but they are playing with confidence. We have not found that confident groove yet. They also know they beat us regularly so that only adds to their confidence. And I said this b4 VCU can play a little looser. It's important game for them but they are in a better spot than us right now. Little more of a luxury win for them as opposed to a must win imo. More pressure for us and if it's a close game we'll also have Mooney coaching tight at the end.

We are a better team than VCU, and if we both play our best, we win by 10 points regardless of where the game is played. If we play a bad game and they play well, we will lose. The same is true of many teams in the A10. We can't afford to make stupid mistakes, settle for a bunch of threes or be careless with the ball. If we take care of those things, we're in very good shape against almost every opponent we face.

I know we don't look good when we're missing, but 3's are a huge part of the game. we're a good shooting team. Jacob, Blake and Tyler for sure should take them every time they're open.

Expecting a big game from Grant tonight. Agree with letting Bones try to beat us from outside. He's not going to hit 20 shots. Spiders 78 - Rams 70
Please just do what Dayton did: double Bones and make the other Rams beat you.

That led to 50% shooting as a team against Dayton, 52% from 3.

UR is not better than VCU. Heck, just one example why, VCU competed with WVU, while UR looked like a JV team. Also, we didn't lose at home to a Hofstra team that got swept by JMU.
True, unlike Hofstra that lost at JMU, you beat JMU by 1 at home...

“We lost too but we lost by less than you so we’re the best!” Well that’s a weak argument.

So cute seeing you try to impress us. Penn State wasn’t very impressed though. Same goes for Rhode Island.

Good thing the refs bailed you guys out against James Madison or I’d really have something else to say

We didn't look like a JV team against WVU. That's the point. Y'all didn't belong on the same court. Should've forfeited at halftime.

What will it take to get you to stop trolling our boards? Serious question.
Us winning tonight. Like most trolls, get in early to talk a ton of trash, win and come back and talk more. Lose no big deal, just stop posting and go back to fleshlighting about Bones all night.

This reminds me of me, hahaha.

Now, this is getting better on here, like the early Shaka/District Baller days.

I have worked myself into a good state in these games, with a lot less anxiety. I am rooting for the Spiders to win in a blow out, and get this crazy covid season back on track. BUT - if we lose I try to convince myself that it is one more nail in Mooney's coffin - even though Trap so kindly pulls me back into reality that Mooney's lifetime sentence on our program aint going no where. period. But I can convince myself sometimes. In any case Hardt is moving up the list quickly to the all time worst AD.

Now let's go out and win us a game. Maybe tomorrow I will check the board and we landed an athletic 6'9 recruit too.

Just curious how a RAM apologizer became a Lion? For some strange reason (logic) the ODU logo looks more like a Lion........

I see this Spider fan is ready to go!!!!

Obviously we can't hope to win this game.
• Mooney is our coach
• We just played a high school team
• We are still recovering from the layoffs
• We are facing the best player VCU has EVER HAD BY FAR
• VCU is in first place and we aren't
• The game is at the Siegel Center, which is COMPLETELY SOLD OUT AS USUAL
• God hates us

My concern is fatigue. You know VCU will try to speed the game up and pressure us. In a normal circumstance - I like our guards to handle it. But coming off a 2 week pause with limited practice and conditioning, and then playing a glorified scrimmage on Sunday - I worry the guys will lose some legs in the 2nd half.

I think UR keep it close or even has the lead early on, but after halftime I am worried we might wear down in terms of missing shots, some bad turnovers, fouls, etc.

I agree with this take. We'll need good minutes from Gustavson, Grace, and Sal if we want to win this one
