Tyler Burton - 2019 Richmond Commit

I am hoping to get out and catch a game this year and provide a first hand report. Last one I was able to provide was for Dwill. Some one look that one up for me in the archives. It would be interesting to see what I said vs how he turned out prior to injuries and dismissal.

Marley,

If you are not familiar with the "15-second rule," perhaps you may like to google it. Since it would take 15-seconds or more to do that I seriously doubt you will do it.
In a nutshell, it is a concept in Shawn' Achor's great book, The Happiness Advantage and it holds that us humans will tend to avoid things that take as few as 15-seconds to do, and that definitely includes googling anything.

On the other hand, if it is right here in front of us, and we can avoid the 15-seconds, then we are more likely to read about it. I provided the definition above because I firmly believe in the 15-second rule. If you opted to google it, and want to share more about it, please do. Otherwise, you ARE working too hard.

23, I hope you will be able to get out and see at least one of his games this season. If so, please use this thread as a great place to report on ALL of your first-hand observations.

My hope is that our recruit will "blow-up," like Jacob did in his senior year, and become a big-time guy, which he appears to be capable of. I would love to see him become an "instant" starter or instant 6th or 7th man by next fall. At the very least we can all hope that he can replace JJ effectively, at the SF spot, preferably early-on.

I am excited about the talent we are accumulating. Hopefully, we have a good enough year this year where we would want to keep the starting 5 together, and I think we will, which means guys like Francis, Sal, and Burton can come off the bench. We already know Francis can play. If Sal and Burton are legit, we could have the best talent in the A-10 next year.

The way Beckwith was talking on the broadcast, and Bob Black in interview - I think Francis is a headliner next year. I don't see him coming off the bench.

Yep. Blake won’t be coming off the bench.

Doesn't really matter. He will play a lot of minutes regardless. I was just talking best case scenario. If Wojcik has a great year, and our starting 5 clicks this year, why mess with the starting lineup? Hopefully, everyone will play well enough together that it will at least be a question of whether or not we should make a change to the starters.

Good problems to have.

There is too much time between now and then to worry about it. Let’s go beat iupui and keep the good times rolling!

could be the most impressively talented bench we've had in like forever ... if we don't lose guys.

I hope the norm will be that we move and play defense like we did against St Francis as we really cut off the drives and covered up outside shooters quickly. They did make some in your face 3s that were not necessarily high percentage. I know we are not going to shoot every game like we did, but so long as we move and pass and take good shots we should be competitive most games. Mooney said again that Jake is a great shooter and we are not seeing his best there. If he starts hitting more then that will give us 3 very strong 3 pt shooters with that starting 5 and then that will keep lanes open for Cayo to drive and Grant to stay lower on the blocks.

On Saturday afternoon, the Marianapolis Golden Knights kicked off their 2018-19 season with a home game against the Dragons of Greens Farms Academy ...
A strong offensive performance from senior Tyler Burton (28 points, 12 rebounds) helped to secure the 59-52 lead.

lost 78-56 the next day ... no box or mention of Burton.

they play again today.

I managed to check out the link from spiderman (above) and can add some good news from the last few games. Tyler had another monster game on December 5th, with 26 points and 13 rebounds, including two steals and one block, and "a few thunderous dunks".
On December 8th: "In the extra periiod (OT) Burton came to life..." leading his team to an OT victory.
Not much on Tyler from the other games and apparently no box scores, so the data is incomplete but highly promising!!!

The 28 and 12 game and the 26 and 13 game, and the "thunderous dunks" quote, and "strong defense" quote (in the game summaries) look very positive to me. My hope was Tyler would "blow-up" in a positive way, and that seems to be happening so far. He certainly sounds like a guy who can come in and help us as a freshman, if the current trend continues. Let's continue to monitor his progress....

gosh, how can we ever lose a game again once all this talent is blended together?

No kidding! We better build a statue of Mooney and plate it in gold to recognize the wealth of incredible talent he has collected.

Instead of the "Big 3" next year, I guess we will have to have the "Great Eight", maybe "Excellent Seven" "Ginormous 6". Just pick a number and then put some superlative adjective in front of it.

I'm confident given 6 months, that Matt Smith will come up with just the right name for this group.

Isn’t the point of talking about recruits to be excited about them, especially when they have some impressive stat line games? Also, I would think we all hope Tyler can come in and contribute right away? Doesn’t that make Richmond a better team, regardless of the coach?

Spideroldie was just a little excited about a recruit and giving an update. No need to pee in his Cheerios with all of the Mooney negativity when his post wasn’t a reference to Mooney at all.

The guy has not even started his career here yet. You would think a thread about him would be free from negative talk or sarcastic posts with an obvious agenda. What a shame.

seriously, there are 100 other threads that you guys can, and have, whined on. can't you keep your repetitive negative crap off a Tyler Burton thread?
can a mod maybe clean this up?
feel free to start up a Mooney bashing thread and run it 10,000 posts long. I promise not to post anything positive on it.
I finally have to give in and use ignore. didn't want to. figured everyone at some point would post something I'd want to read.

my post was not about our coach but about how we size up and anoint our recruits on here. always bring up this guy, gets old but have to do it. DT recruited a guy from tidewater who averaged 40 per game in high school but did not even score 40 over his four years here. one should always hope our recruits are great, might start their frosh year and be great, some are, most are not. prefer to watch them play here before making them an all-american and getting so excited that i hurl.

Thanks to the handy December 5th link, above, all of us can now access Tyler Burton's team schedule, and the "details" from each game.

I checked out his two most recent games, from this week, since they represented far better news than watching the O.R. debacle last Saturday!!!
It turns out that Tyler Burton is his team's captain, which always speaks well regarding leadership. He also had one game this week where he scored 36 points, had 16 boards, and scored 6 points in OT to lead his team to a victory, by 73-69. His 36 points represented just under 50% of his team's total point production. The article noted that his was a "fantastic"performance.

In a follow-up game, to lead his team to a 5-2 overall record, Tyler led his team again in scoring, with 23 points. The article often references his 3-point shooting also, which is very encouraging.

I have not seen his season stats overall, but it looks like he is averaging close to 25 points, likely over 10 boards per game, and likely 2 3-pointers per game also. Someone with access to the season stats is welcome to correct me, since my numbers are estimates based only on game summaries, not box-scores. Tyler definitely looks like he continues to improve hsi game and could be quite a player. .

Hi everyone, do you know how can I find some more information, the true one, about Tyler on youtube? I really appreciate his way of playing ad his dedication. Not everyone is showing such kind of performance and power as he does in basketball. You know I've recently found some of his first games and the difference is really big. Thanks to that I was able to try this https://ymp4.download site. One of my friends shared it and showed me how to download videos very easily with high quality. So in case, you'd like to watch his first games I have the videos.

Every new game is a highlight for Tyler. He is an even better person than he is a basketball player. He is such a huge asset to the Spiders.

Whenever we have a special player like Tyler, I always worry that they get tired of mediocrity and move on...
