Transfer season

Yeah, I don't like the way O'Connor phrases this stuff. Makes it sound like great players keep exiting the program. None of these guys really could play at this level. Obviously it's on the staff to recruit better, but it's not like we are screwing things up once they get here and letting 4-star talent leave.

Kinda glad JOC didn't write" this is among the 8 recruiting misses which Mooney has had since 2013 which, coupled with some injuries and other non contributing recruits, has led to a short bench and therefore a lack of depth in UR's program".Glad he wasn't harsher than his Twitter.

D1 teams have over 2 transfers out per year on average, so we are at the average or slightly below.

Pssst.......Jesse, it's "couldn't have." Maybe they'll teach that to you at your next stop! ;-)

Has O'Conner ever been to a game? He is a very negative and vague for a sports writer.

He's at most games. He sits at the press table right behind Bob and Beck. He's pretty much it as far as local press (unless you want to count the writer for The Collegian or Richmondspiders.com).

Always seemed to me that JP was in Mooney's dog house for some reason. Mainly just observing body language and interactions between the two. I for one always liked Jesse, seems to be a real character in a good way. He also seemed to have a knack for getting open under the basket and is a pretty good shooter.

We should go really hard after Marin Maric, seems like a good fit for our system, good size, we can always use an extra 14 points and 8 rebounds from our front line.

Was watching UCLA play last night and kept thinking about how we missed on Goloman (who wouldn't pick UCLA over Richmond?) and settled on PF. Goloman was a beast last night coming off the bench. Wish he had made a different decision, but who can blame him.

I bet Jesse goes somewhere and just lights it up for two years. It's been a mystery to me how a guy goes from playing a bunch of minutes the first half of his freshman season, to almost nothing for the next year and a half. With NO explanation, and with us being shorthanded to boot. I'm only a fan, but I thought that he looked pretty good when given the chance to play.

I hope Jesse heads to a CAA location. I think he could play well and would be nice to catch a few of his games. He was not heavily recruited out of high school but the guy can shoot.

He committed to Charlotte before their coaching change. He could be very good in a system that isn't highly organized. He is better when improvising.

He was benched for disciplinary reasons last year, I think that then contributed to him falling further behind Julius.

Ultimately, I just think we have a lot of guards that he was behind and may not have had great chance to get in front of.

A glaring deficiency for Jesse was his lack of athleticism compared with our other guards. He could shoot, pass and had a decent handle, but just could not jump. In all the videos and practices I saw him, he never dunked. This is for a guy that is 6'3" or so.

I hate to rag on our players but it seemed to me that Jesse just never could be in the right place on defense and had trouble with our offense as well. JJ ended his freshmen season on a high note defensively and started out this season on a high note offensively, so it is no surprise that JP never saw much playing time over JJ. After the first few games it was clear JP was our 7th option at guard this year, maybe he has talent and basketball skill but just did not fit our system?

This was my nonprofessional assessment too. I think he was a bit lost running the offensive sets. That's normal for a freshman/non-starter, but when competing against multiple other guards it's going to limit ones PT.

While I don't know if he can jump, but it did seem he could run, and he could play.
But what you are saying is what I meant by less organized. From what I saw he couldn't get to a point that our strategy was instinctive.

Would UR have any interest in Reuter from UVA? Not great of course but a functional big man. Have to sit out a year.

I doubt it, I expect we are pretty focused on trying to get a one year guy and reopen the spot for 2018.

I was very hopeful for JP. Seems like a really great kid. I think his best option is to go to a D2 school, where he won't have to sit out a year. I think when he fell behind Kirby, the writing on the wall was clear.

Come on, The Ulla, since when is dunking a requirement for our guards? Never saw S. Jones dunk either, he helped us just a little.

Rick, Shawndre dunked before every game and in practice. Since I drive down from outside of Baltimore and spend the night after the game, I always got to every game at least one hour prior to tipoff. Early in their warmups, they have fun dunking. All these guys can dunk, even Shawndre at 5'11". Kendall at only 5'7" could nearly do so. Point is Jesse was/is not very athletic for his height.

Agree, liked his potential as well. Once he was on the offenders list he was buried and never got another chance.

He is smart to move on. His problem is that he has now lost 2-years of game experience, which makes him a freshman- junior. Be tough to excel at a high level immediately since he is now at least 11/2 years behind. If he sits out a third year .....

Yes but he has had injuries

I would be willing to bet most grad transfers have dealt with injuries. A past redshirt year is almost a requirement for a student to grad transfer, and if the player is good, that redshirt was probably due to injury.

PF more or less the same situation. What makes him more workable staying a Spider is team's lack of height. Seeing though he couldn't get time this year tells me if both he and JP transferred it would benefit the team in opening two spots. JP seems more eager to play while PF's fate might be willing to get a degree and sit on the bench?

You also have to consider that Paul has been there three years, so he's close to his degree and has friends, he may be ok being a scout team player who might get spot duty these last two years.

You're right so maybe he graduates next year and goes the grad transfer route the following season to open up a spot?

Sad thing is that Ulla was probably exactly right on May 5, 2015 until Mooney pulled the best recruiting class out of his A$$. Two exceptional freshman started instead this year.

I think for recreuiting we must remember international as always. So now we have France, Lithuania, and other.
I can not say how important to get pivots with skills and Lithuania is perfect. Verbinskis is also high skill level who gets more mature with time going on. But yes he is the SHOOTER. I think Coach basketball is getting much better and Coach now can show things because he does nt have to hide bad offense players anymore. And also assistants who understand system of offense.

I'm not entirely sold on JJ yet either. I need to see a lot next year, I thought he was just a body last month and a half of the year
