Transfer season

If we have the so acclaimed very generous scholarship program, need, academics, etc. I assume those options might be available as well?
I don't think so for Football & Basketball. Any aid counts as athletic aid for the purposes of 13 players.

Is that so? I always thought aid was ok, but "free" would count against scholarships (i.e., you can't get academic scholarship funds).

Not sure but...
"For Division I football and basketball prospects, this change has little impact. NCAA rules prohibit recruited walk-ons from receiving almost all forms of institutional financial aid. Merit-based, need-based, it doesn’t matter. Athletes in the revenue sports must either earn a (typically full) scholarship or pay their own way through school."

Intriguing...definitely another challenge if we are trying to get recruited walk-ons to come to UR. I guess it has to be pretty binary, otherwise one could probably very easily manipulate how much aid is granted and or fees get waived.

True, can you see Kentucky & Duke with 20 walk ons each, that were receiving enough aid to prevent them going to a competitor?

if a spot opens which I doubt and if you guys have some awesome big man grad transfer in mind that you think wants to be here, I won't argue. but that's a mirage.
Grant's going to be a stud. TJ and SDJ lit up talking about Solly. Paul will be plenty serviceable as a junior year backup. and I have to think we've got some talent coming in with Ford and Cayo.
plus we're going to go small some again next year. if Gilyard's as good as we think, no way he's playing just 10 mpg behind Khwan. they'll play together a lot. and we're not benching DMB or Nick. or Solly.
odds are a grad transfer we'd get would help a little coming off the bench, taking time away from the freshmen which would irritate most of this board.

Not a transfer, but is our Grant Shephard offer still valid if a spot becomes available?

I confirmed with the player in question that the post was not true and have removed the post.

In my defense, the post on here was not an attempt to mislead. It said he posted on his Snapchat that he was transferring. There was a post on his Snapchat that said exactly that. (He has since removed it.) He may have been joking around, but I was not making it up. Maybe he was hacked...

Generally agree, I actually think Joe can play, he is clearly athletic and his a super-high motor. But we need front-court help from an experienced grad transfer type, so if any scholarship open up, we have to look to fill it with someone. If we fail in that regard, then sure, extend it to Joe, but not in advance of looking at other options.
Virginia sure has a lot of openings. Just lost another one today.

Sengfelder grad transferring from Fordham

At 6-7,240 we could use a big German that plays hard.Scores 12 a game with 6 Rebs.

He had a double-double at the RC this season with 23 points and 12 rebounds, both season-highs.

In a disciplined system he could do better.Recall that he was a high achiever in the classroom as well.

Wonder if Foggy Bottom is interested. They like the international flavor.

I agree with most of this except for two things. First, I don't see Paul contributing even as a backup, just too much evidence that he isn't there given his role behind kwesi who was not very solid.

Second, if we found a good grad transfer big man, he would absolutely play, maybe even a lot. But it's a ridiculously big "IF".

Sengfelder was made for our system. I think we determined last year that grad transfers don't have to sit out an extra year even if they transfer in league, but I'm sure we wouldn't go after him since he played for another A10 team.

IMO, the only person we bring in (if a spot opens up) is a grad transfer.

There is no way we add another FR recruit or a transfer who sits next year.

Assuming 1 spot opens up, we need to bring someone in who can contribute right away or we hold the scholarship for recruiting.

We need to open up at least 1 scholarship for 2018 (hopefully signing Bryce).

Potential starting line-up:
Khwan
DMB
Sherod
GG (if healthy)
Solly

Bench:
JJ
Gilyard
Cayo ??
Ford ??
PF ??

Question mark indicates uncertainty of whether they'll play much. Given our lack of depth in the front court, I think we should go for another grad transfer who will give us size down low. Ideally 6'6" or taller

Jesse pistokache transferring per Marc Davis twitter. Let the transfer talk now officially begin
Glad I didn't take that bet, having tori valentine as my avatar would have been unbearable.

I'm not surprised that he wants to go play somewhere else, but I am surprised that there would be much of a market. Best of luck to him.

Jesse Pistokache becomes the eighth player with eligibility remaining to leave Richmond's program since 2013.

Since I don't know anything about basketball,is this average for a given D1 program?
We are average to low for basketball D1 transfers. More importantly, we are virtually nil for losing guys who transfer that we universally want to keep.

Here are some interesting names that might end up grad transferring per a UGA board:

Cameron Reynolds (Tulane) - he's a guard but he's 6-7 and averaged 17/6.8 so clearly he can rebound

Jack Whitman (W&M) - averaged 10/5.4 as a F; 6-9/235

Marin Maric (Northern Illinois) - 6-11/250 C, averaged 14.4/8.4

Yeah, I don't like the way O'Connor phrases this stuff. Makes it sound like great players keep exiting the program. None of these guys really could play at this level. Obviously it's on the staff to recruit better, but it's not like we are screwing things up once they get here and letting 4-star talent leave.
