The Fight in Ukraine and its Heroes

Once the dust clears, we will see. I suspect that the majority of the Republican US Senators, who see the danger of Russia, are communicating directly with Trump about the importance of supporting Ukraine. I also suspect that they are using their support for Trump's domestic legislation to get Trump to do the right thing with Ukraine.

Trump has at least gotten the UK and France to talk about placing troops in Ukraine, as peace keepers.
The majority of Republican US senators would give Trump a public b*&^% on 5th Avenue if he told them to.

If you still didn't believe this is who the GOP is, I don't know what else to tell you. This is who the GOP is. All of it.

If there were any "decent republicans," as you seem to think there are, it would be easy to see them today. We won't. Because they aren't there.

Yes, Trump and Vance both.
Yep, Trump just couldn't take it that Zelensky stood up to him and didn't kiss the ring or a part of his anatomy just like some foreign leaders and virtually all Republicans have. Finally, someone stood up to the bully even though it may cost Zelenskly and Ukraine a lot. I have more respect for Zelensky than ever, and less respect for Trump, if any less was even possible.

Trump, Vance and Marjorie Taylor Greene's boyfriend belittled Zelensky for the clothing he wore, as if that matters. And meanwhile, Elon Musk wears a hat in the Oval Office, and no one says a thing.

Find this tact disturbing. There are plenty of good folks on both sides. Disagreements over policy need not, and should not, lead to condemnation of those with different views. Hope we share a common vision of making a more perfect union. Don't see how this attitude gets us there.

BTW, I am not a Republican (nor a Democrat).

Liz Cheney, a true decent Repbulican who is not afraid of Trump, said it best:

“Generations of American patriots, from our revolution onward, have fought for the principles Zelenskyy is risking his life to defend. But today, Donald Trump and JD Vance attacked Zelenskyy and pressured him to surrender the freedom of his people to the KGB war criminal who invaded Ukraine. History will remember this day—when an American President and Vice President abandoned all we stand for.”

I long for the days when people could have intelligent conversations about their policy disagreements. We are so far removed from that at this point that I doubt it ever comes back. We have an uneducated bully in the White House. Not sure how much clearer that could be. He's an embarrassment to the United States and people from every party. But because he carries an R with his name, Republicans will defend him no matter what. If he were a Democrat, they would want him strung up. Hypocrisy at its finest.

This rhetoric sounds extreme, but the point is a good one.

"A U.S. government aligning with Russia in ways that actively undermine Ukraine’s fight would be a truly shocking development—one that would shatter trust in the United States and irreparably fracture the Western alliance. But Ukrainians, who know the awful cost of this war better than anyone, have no choice but to fight for their country’s survival."

Thanks for link, I believe it is a very sound assessment of where this situation lays. As dangerous as it was I believe Zelensky took the proper stance for Ukraine. Why give up one of your few bargaining chips (rare earth minerals) for only a "maybe you will be safe assurance". Putin is ruthless and is not trustworthy, something Zelensky knows, and something Trump refuses to acknowledge.

In his interview with Fox News on Friday, Zelensky said he would prefer that Trump not act as a mediator, but more of an advocate of Ukraine. Zelensky screwed up, because everyone has to kiss Trump's rear. Zelensky is a the elected leader of a sovereign democratic country. The Ukrainians point is that, OK, now Trump wants to negotiate. So what, Putin is going to do what he wants. Trump says "at least let me" try. Zelensky says we have to keep the pressure on Putin, so he can't rearm. Ukraine also does not want to be forced into agreeing to something with Putin that is not in Ukraine's interest.

If the US is the indispensable nation, as Americans believe, then the US must lead.

Someone should explain this to Trump:

By asking for input and listening well, leaders create connectedness and build trust with those they lead.

Trump has now stopped sharing intelligence with Ukraine, he is doing everything he can to tie Ukraines' hands behind its back and benefit his butt buddy Putin. This lack of sharing intelligence with Ukraine will undoubtedly lead to more deaths in Ukraine, including children. I'm sure Trump is not losing sleep over that, he and Musk love to kick people when they are already down and in misery, it makes them feel powerful. Those 2 are nothing but bullies.
