Sy Chatman - 2018 Offer

we'll only take one HS senior at most. not going to have a 6 man class. Roydell makes sense joining the 2 man Nick & Buck class. a grad transfer would make sense too.

I'd love to see us sign a real transfer who has 2 or 3 years left. Most likely anyone we get at this point, other than Bryce, is not going to contribute much of anything next year anyway, so let's find someone who will be ready to go in 2019-20.

That guy from Evansville looks like he could be a nice fit if we go that route.

Sal replaces Jordan.
We still have to replace Solly.
We need to replace Paul. As an aside, did Paul say he was going to try to play or attend anywhere else? or simply not playing with us next season?
There is the possibility we may need others...

I follow your thinking, but I think we should be looking to get the best available, regardless of class. I’m of the belief the rest will shake out (a 6 man class screams of someone eventually transferring), which to me isn’t a bad thing, it means we have players overtaking them that are younger and better.

I’ve been high on him since we offered. Wing/PF. Still see a lot of terry allen in him (though admittedly that may be me hopefully projecting). Would love to see him come our way.

When did Sy visit? I believe I saw that he visited Siena and Northern Iowa, when did Ulla get the chance to chat him up?
23, am unaware of Sy visiting UR; maybe others have heard something.

Well this doesn’t make me feel good about our chances. We haven’t gotten him on campus yet? Not a great sign, but maybe now that we’re out of the Bryce sweepstakes, we can focus on Sy.

it's 4/11. only a few hours left.
shouldn't he have signed somewhere already? ;)

Yes, what the heck are we waiting for. Would think that we SHOULD be an attractive option. I have a feeling this recruitment is stuck in the mud. One of the articles mentions his play senior year was getting him some high major looks.

Would love to have him, but I’m guessing that won’t happen given that we haven’t heard about any other steps since offering (no visit, etc).

Nathan for whatever reason, I get the feeling that he wants to be closer to home. Hope I am wrong.

Very well could be. There is a lot that happens behind the scenes that we as fans don’t see. I hope we’re working on him though, especially getting him on campus.

I’m also one to assume we are doing all of this. With 2 scholarship spots open, I would also assume that means no sleep for anyone in the men’s basketball department for the foreseeable future. Long days, lots of work to be done, gotta fill those spots with quality players.

Nathan, I can assure you the coaches are working VERY hard.

So he has no high major offers per VC which I think is generally pretty thorough. The basketball season has only been over for a couple of weeks but I think he’d have more interest showing if P5 were lurking.

It seems he’s taken officials to Siena and UNI.

We're not getting this kid.

Based on inside info, there just being not a lot of smoke on the inter webs, or just general pessimism?

Cause I agree with you, we definitely should be in on him. Athletic wing, 6’7”, who can play the 3/4 in Mooney’s system sounds like the exact type we want. Also, while he doesn’t seem to be a dead eye shooter at the moment, he also doesn’t look awkward when taking a jumper, which gives me hope in him progressing.

I know he's listed anywhere from 6'6" to 6'9", but he's nowhere near 6'9". he looks like a solid 6'6". still, I'd be happy to get him. good athlete.

but we offered in February. I know he was busy winning states, but he hasn't visited yet either by his choice or ours. if we don't hear he's scheduled to visit soon, then he isn't.

This seems to be the only good player we are currently involved with. Mooney needs to pull a rabbit out of his hat here.
