Solomon Hainna - 2016 JUCO Offer

the "we don't take jucos" mantra at UR is short for "we don't take kids who's academics are so bad they wouldn't qualify to play right out of HS". that's not the case here. kid was accepted into the Air Force. academics aren't an issue, and I doubt there'd be any problem getting him in if he chooses UR.

FWIW, he wasn't accepted into the Air Force Academy. He joined the Air Force out of high school, and in 2012 got selected for a program that would send him to the academy's prep school for a year with the possibility of going on to the academy after that. Not clear to me what happened with the prep school thing, but regardless he didn't go on to the academy.

Looks like a great guy and I think he'd be a great fit, but I haven't seen enough evidence to convince me the academics are as much of a slam dunk as some seem to think they are.

Nice for Solomon to play on a BIG stage.

Melo will have a field day dishing off inside otherwise.

Maryland will play Richmond and BC will face Kansas State in the first round of the 2016 Barclays Center Classic, sources told @CBSSports.

Thanks for the clarification SF. That is what I thought regarding his service in the Air Force. We don't know what his "grades" are like, but to me if he honorably served in an enlisted capacity in the Air Force, that should count for something in our admissions evalution of him.

by the way ... see him holding his form on his jumper too long, like Deion did, before his release. someone should work with him to shoot as he's reaching the peak, not after his momentum has stopped. usually more accurate, always quicker. like Steph.

I assume any time we make an offer, which we appear to be doing quite often especially for transfers, that a recruit is compliant with UR academic entrance requirements.Does that mean that some of the recent recruiting strikeouts could be due to a recruit being non compliant and that our offer was in fact a contingency offer.

There's always a contingency...like Bernard, you know, actually graduating from FAMU.

Did I also read somewhere that he had a 3.6 GPA at Midland? That seems promising...

Nice young man who has served us all. Solomon has dreams and aspirations, and is a good basketball player. Hope he becomes a Spider. Can we just leave it at that? OSC

A lot of the coursework may not transfer, but hey, if he's got a 3.5, that's way better than having a 1.5.

All the beating up of Mooney over not getting transfers could have been due to the offering of non-compliant offerees among other reasons. We'll never know.

If we could put this post after Duke Denver's, it would read entirely different. SF, you sure not a lot about Bernard
:)
Not to get into a measuring contest...but wasn't that comment about Solomon and not Malcolm?

So if Valpo lands Hainna as their replacement for Skara, I'm going to avoid this board for a few days. Just sayin'...

Surprised it took so long for Valpo to offer after Skara hit the road.Looks like a backfill.Again, another Midwest private school, all same size as UR.New coach Lottich has been at Valpo for previous 3 years as assistant and played collegiately at Stanford.Lets see now if Solomon's future travel plan includes a visit to the Commonwealth.

Yeah, that would be pretty much the ultimate kick in the nads. I'm not sold on Hainna by any means, but I think it is pretty clear by our continued recruiting activity that our coaches are not satisfied with 11 scholarship players and if at the end of the day that is what we play with next year, it would be a really blow to the psyche of our program and our coaches. As much as it irritates me as a fan, I would think it would be maddening for our coaches to have to go through this ongoing process of rejection.

it's a tough business. rejection always hurts, but the staff moves on. there are always other options, and many end up better than your first choice (or 2nd, 3rd, 4th ...).

Yep, just like that time we almost landed Wesson but didn't, so we moved onto Ford...and didn't land him either. So then we moved onto....

or like the time we missed on White, Wood, and Henderson and ended up with T Allen. 1,500 points and 780 rebounds later ...

not saying it always works out well! I'd rather have Wesson, Hazen or Ford than anyone likely at this point. but not much you can do sometimes. it's not like walking into a store and saying "I'll take that one". we all think these kids should love UR as much as we did/do, but they don't have the emotional history that we have. while you and I might chose UR over say Arkansas, someone else might think we're crazy to do that.

We do have a problem landing "competitive" recruits though. It's objectively true although it can also be rationalized. I don't fall into the "no excuses" camp but we have to figure out how to land some of these guys. Having some success in the tournament will go a long way, unfortunately that's kind of chicken and egg-ish:

as said before, we've landed 3 competitive recruits this year and two next season. if it takes targeting guys with Richmond ties to give us the edge we need, then target guys with Richmond ties.

We have signed 5 guys who seem to be highly capable players. I am hopeful that this is a trend that will continue moving forward. I'm also hopeful that a few of them will be able to combine to recruit others. They'll probably be our most effective recruiting tool in the next 4-5 years, quite honestly.

agreed, 8. good players want to play with good players. and that starts before college.

Yeah, their name is Jethro and their interests include: rock skipping, trips to Wal-mart and looking at sister.

JK - you are completely right, there's no "best" school for everyone. I honestly would've ended up an M.D. had I stayed at the University of South Carolina instead of going to Duke. Instead I'm a lowly professor with student loans. I think I'm happier this way, or at least that's how I sleep at night. We all have to take our own path.

Yeah, I defining tell don't know the answer here. I jokingly posted elsewhere that we need to target guys with knee injuries the summer before senior year and sign them before the senior season starts. I think that's why we landed DMB and Grant in large part. Local helps but vcu is also local. Being good and in the ncaa tournament is the best draw.

Dunno. We still have a spot though.

No sign of a visit from him, and he's been mentioning his other travels on Twitter.

Seems he has Valpo and UR to visit unless he has other offers or has decided upon either Drake/Evansville/IPFW at this point, all 3 of which he has recently visited.

i have a bad gut feeling that admissions is stopping this situation. If so we need KG to fight for CM on this.
