Smolla quits as
Furman president



The former dean of two Virginia law schools, Rod Smolla has given up his
latest post as president of South Carolina's Furman University, citing
family concerns.

Interesting...seems like some rough issues with his personal life. Was well-liked at both UR and W&L, and seemed to be doing well at Furman. Was a big supporter of athletics there, even if football team has been down for a few years now.

sorry to see that. noticed that Richard Cullen is chairman of their board. think that he is the former or current federal prosecutor in richmond, at least when my kids were growing up and know his son attended furman. at the time they lived off river road in the west end near collegiate school. marriage and math are tough.

Richard is chairman of McGuire Woods. He was Virginia's attorney general for a brief period.

Richard was also the US Attorney for the Eastern District of VA. He's a Furman graduate and, as I recall, a wide receiver there. He's a good guy.

BW, that is when i ran into him a lot through my daughter who was friends with his son. did not know that he attended furman, just his son. he seemed very unassuming and a nice guy at that time.
