Schertz heading to SLU

Problem for him is if he recruits 5 top 100 players each year, those guys have to get big minutes for the next batch of top 100 guys to believe in the model and sign. Bringing in older guys who take those minutes away won’t work in his recruiting system (at least in the UK model.) Kellen Grady from Davidson grad transferred there a few years back after an all-A10 season, didn’t really work out for anyone.

Agree that a mix of transfers and recruits is the way to go, don’t know if Cal can adapt to that. His recruiting pitch has been “pro prep” for decades now.
I think for someone like Cal he either has to go full transfer portal and forget the HS kids alltogether (maybe take 1-2 a year, and probably not top 20 kids). Or continue with what he has been doing and try to get top HS recruiting class each year. For him - the mix doesn't work, cause like you said - those HS kids expect to go pro after 1 year, and need to play minutes to do so. So bringing in a transfer over them doesn't work.

Bringing in a mix is probably the best recipe for most coaches, but don't think it works for Cal. Think he goes all in one way or the other.
