Official GW Game Thread - A10 Game # 2

I would suggest not allowing Bishop 40 points.

GW is 6th in % in making 2s, but 308th in % in allowing 2s.

GW just hung 97 on Loyola Chicago in their house. Not feeling good about our chances in this one.

GW - 82
Richmond - 56

It’s game day, so time to push this to the top of the list.

Haven’t seen GW at all, but if they have a one man scoring threat then I like the Spiders chances, as locking down one guy is something we have seen the UR D can do. The game is in the friendly confines of the Robins Center too, so I expect a Spiders win. We will see the usual falling behind in the first half and the Spiders pulling out a 8 pt win.

Looks like Spiders are favored by 7.5, down from 8.5 last night.

Key Stats to keep in mind heading into tonight

Where GW is Strong
  • James Bishop and the team inside the Arc: 59.7% (8th in the Country)
  • Offensive Rating: 110 (63rd in the Country)
  • Free Throws: 73.8% (79th in the Country)
  • Allowing Blocks: 24 (2nd in the Country) --> Don't expect too many ill-advised shots, they put up decent points for being 300th in the country in FGA's per game
Where GW is Weak
  • James Bishop and the team from 3: 32.6% (248th in the Country)
  • Offensive Rebounding: 8.4 per game (314th in the Country) --> also 291st in TRB%
  • Steals: 5.5 per game (305th in the Country) --> Let's see if we can move the basketball around and take advantage of their lack of aggression on the ball
  • Defensive Rating: 104.6 (293rd in the Country)
GW is an offense forward team. Richmond is a defense forward team. I expect a battle, closer than people here seem to think. If Bishop is held to 20 or less, I think we take this one. 25 or more and it will be tough. Up to the Goose tonight I think

Seems to be smallest home crowd of season so far - students aren’t back school night for younger kids

Is this the first time we've had these ESPN CBB graphics and music? Looks weird not having the usual SpiderTV scoreboard, but I kinda like it.

Honestly like the offensive look so far. Running through Quinn can work if he stays aggressive!

But if GW keeps going under the screens on our three-point shooters, we might have a chance.

It’s unfathomable how bad we are in last shot situations. It’s like we don’t actually have any plays to get an open shot, so we just run a set and hope it leads to a good look before time runs out.

Other than Grace’s half dozen turnovers, we don’t play much better and still down to Bishop IV by 2 at the half.

You mean the coaching situations?

We don’t have anyone who can consistently score off the dribble but that is exactly what we try to do on last shot opportunities…..I don’t get it?

Bishop has 16 in the first half. Doesn’t seem like the plan is working.

Good home court win

The stats only show we had 11 turnover and GW only had 4 blocked shots……both of those numbers look low having watched the game

Have to give Mooney credit for his first halftime adjustment in 18 years. We double teamed the only player they had the whole second half causing him to throw up terrible shots or pass to his awful teammates.
Tyler was aggressive the whole game and he and Goose made some huge free throws down the stretch to seal the game.

Tyler was outstanding tonight, and Goose's defense on Bishop in the 2nd half took him out of the game. Nelson had some shaky turnovers, but he had a couple key 3s and gave us scoring that we needed. Good balanced scoring tonight after Tyler with 6 guys between 5 and 11 points. Nice win, guys!!
