Guards - Nelson, Dji, Roche, Smith, Randolph, Dread
Forwards - Bigelow, Noyes, Tanner
Bigs - Quinn, Walz

Lot of guys that can do 1 or two basketball skills well, but lacking in others. Thinking we really really need 2 impact players in the portal.

1. Need a guard that can come in and right the ship, control the game, score, do everything type. Then we need one guard to raise his game and be a 30 minute a night contributor. All (except Dread) have shown flashes of being big time contributor, but not enough consistency. Not feeling great about this, when you are hoping for big improvement internally it is usually a stretch.

2. Just need another 6'5 + guy that can do a lot (defend, rebound, etc) and score some. and again, we need either Noyes or Bigs to step up and be a good A10 starter. Need Walz to be impactful. Quinn shows flashes, but Walz needs to want to beat him out and not just be content to lift weights, and keep working for the future. The future is now for you as a hoops player.

I hope Mooney heals up and has a calm restful recovery. Then he and Hardt decide its time to ride into the sunset.

I thought Quinn played better towards the end. He needs strength and better use of the glass. But I think his confidence was growing
He had really nice game today. Certainly got better second half of season. He uped his aggressiveness in some late season games. Need much more of this and consistency next year. Someone needs to work with his at the basket shots as he misses too many “should be give me shots”. Hasn’t shown much of an outside shot.

At the end of the radio broadcast, Bob Black suggested that they didn’t know if Bigelow was coming back. Could be a really interesting off season. No question that there is a ton of work to do and I can’t see how anyone could possibly be bullish on next year.

There are at least 3 who will tell you next season looks bright. We will continue to have sellouts - maybe more than victories?

Like Quinn. With confidence and minor tweaks, the potential is there for him to make his best games this year the norm next year. Gotta have 3 point threats to make this happen - more concerned there next year than with the 5.

That said, think we have to go back to Eric Zwayer for a Spider center that missed more bunnies. Gotta clean this up. Experience and confidence hopefully are the tonic.

Interesting. how did he suggest it?

The transfer portal has fundamentally changed college basketball. I really wonder how it shakes out for us this year. I'm also not convinced that Burton isn't coming back.

I definitely did not hear that in the post game show but then I wasn't paying very close attention either.

Burton said he hadn't decided yet, or something like that.

Can we send Quinn to spend two weeks with TJ and Grant?

After the last home game, Burton said some thing along the lines of playing his last game at the Robins Center. I hope for him he doesn’t come back - he’s 23 - he should go make some $, either at a P5 who will slide some NIL dollars his way or go make some playing professionally.

Well, sounds like BB tipped the hand. Bigs possibly gone. I could see Roche too. Not banging on Dread, but if you want to be a college basketball player it seems very unlikely you get the opportunity here. I could see a few extra spots opening.

Could you imagine UR bringing in 5 quality players from the portal? I can’t. Last year’s three was super surprising, needed lots of adjustment time, and really did not deliver the needed impact in year one.

If I’m Roche I’m definitely concerned. Maybe he was more hurt than was known and couldn’t handle the minutes?

It’s a really weird coaching strategy to not get your 3pt specialist into games where you’re trailing late and need shooters.
I'm more than a little concerned if I'm Roche. He's a great shooter and literally had zero sets run for him to get an open shot that I can remember all year! Why UR continues to accept these results is beyond me.

He may have been hurt in some way, but I lean more towards coaching malpractice as the reason.

Mooney has no idea how to run sets for 3 point shooters. Our 3 shooters just run from corner to corner hoping to get lost. Nelson has no idea where Roche is. Roche is an elite shooter and we wasted him like we did with Sherod and Brothers.

Just lower whatever expectations you think you might have next year. We lose the only real threat we have. Don’t fall in to the trap.
That the whole point of the off season! We get updates about how good the new recruits look and we get news about a few impact transfers.

Then I convince myself we’re a sweet sixteen team at worst and schedule my mid season trip to see the team at the Robins Center.

Why do you want to take away all my hope and general good feelings?

I thought we had 3 quality ones out of this portal this season and they all disappointed to varying degrees 🤷‍♂️

Our coach is ok when things are going good, as soon as things start slipping no ability to right the ship. No ability to adapt, no culture of toughness, nothing unique on O or D. Watching Colgate last night, the contrast on how hard they play the way they execute at full speed and take advantage on the court is just stark compared to our team.

Homer, it's almost as if moon has a hang up with succeeding sometimes. Like the timeouts to kill runs. Same thing with players. I get that some coaches like to sub a guy out off of a positive play. But Mooney goes to extreme on this, how many time we see a player hit a shot and get yanked. Dji's biggest issue is staying healthy, but when he could play and had some positive minutes he would get yanked.

I am fully ready for 4 more years of this. Then moon either retiring or forced out, and then mediocre hire by Hardt. Hopefully the AD after Hardt is much better.

Decent potential coming back but as long as Mooney is still coach don’t expect much. That is the reality
Yea. A lot of people get all excited every year during the offseason only to have our at-large hopes crushed before the calander flips to December. The players change, but the lack of winning remains. Not sure how anyone would be excited about next year. 2 years ago we had 3 NBA players (at least 3 G League players) and finished in 6th place in the A10 and were not even on the bubble. This year, we have a NBA draft pick on the roster, a 7 ft center, and an elite shooter. Burton was fine but was asked to do too much, the 7 ft center played most of his minutes at the 3 point line, and we didn't do anything to get the elite shooter good looks and kept him on the bench most of the time. Add to it the Noyes situation! This is who Richmond Basketball is. I expect a bottom 4 finish and 20 loss season next year because of who our administration and coach are. Hope I'm wrong, but I'm done being fooled by this program.

and anytime we spoke about the coaching staff failing to find looks for Roach the Mooneyites would blame him for not doing enough to get himself open for a shot. Now, predictably, the Mooneyites are in their fallout bunker waiting for the first big transfer announcement so they can come out pumping sunshine like nothing ever happened.

It was a casual type comment (or slip of the tongue) as he and Beck were talking about all the seniors that were leaving and how things would look next year.
anyone know where I can find a link? I didn't stick around for post game. now I'm dying to hear what was said and how Bob said it.

as for Roche transferring ... that does make much sense. there's a one-time exemption to the transfer redshirt rule. if he transfers again he sits. I think Bigelow could play as a grad transfer if he wants though. to me that would be a huge loss. I like his game. I love his rebounding and defense. and while he didn't hit 3's, the form is good when he gets his feet under him. sometimes he's leaning left.

sometimes he's leaning left.
I am pretty sure you pointed this out before the season. If they want to give you a stipend to be a part time shooting coach I am OK with it :). I mean he shoots 80% from FT line, and has had a good year shooting the three previously. Maybe it is something as small as this that could correct him. Lord knows current coaches couldn't find anything.
