So here is an article to prove Mooney's return. Hardt expects Mooney to make the NCAA tournament. That's definitely not happening unless we schedule a very soft occ again. Even though, we had a soft schedule we still fell short. So we are going to visit this expectation again. Mooney isn't going to the big tournament next year. You can take it to the bank.

Good luck with season ticket sales for the 2019 - 2020 season!

Now Hardt is using the word ‘compete’

Richmond athletics director John Hardt told the Richmond Times-Dispatch that “the decision was primarily based on the potential for Coach Mooney’s 2019-2020 team to be successful and to compete for an A-10 championship and a tournament bid”

As long as we compete, that’s all that matters. No reason to actually accomplish a goal as long as you compete for one.

And that’s not actually what he said. He said that he expects us to compete for an A10
Championship and a tournament bid. It’s a thoroughly squirrelly response, not that I’d expect anything else.

Anyone know our OOC schedule next year? I would imagine most of the games are already decided?
Anyone know if we are playing in a tourney next year - that is where you can really get 2 good games if you get in a good tourney.

He's been using the same line since he got here. Just once, I wish someone in the media would ask him what that looks like to him.

It's such an immeasurable goal. Technically we are competing for an A10 championship just by participating in the conference tournament.

The Spiders are one of the featured teams in the Legends Classic in Brooklyn. Others are Wisconsin, Auburn and New Mexico State.

As long as CM is at the helm, we will be a 300 something team defensively, and I don't think too many 300 something defensive teams make post-season play. We would need to score like a Paul Westhead-led Loyola Marymount to win any meaningful games, and I don't see that happening under the Moon Man.

Love how so many people were on the Hardt train because he came from Bucknell. Bucknell??!! If you want an AD whose focus is going to be winning, you grab a person from a big conference school. To take one from the Patriot League shows that the administration wanted solely to compete on a budget.

I’m not sure that many people were on the Hardt train. Most people expected the job was wired to him. At least his bona fides were legit. It was otherwise a very similar look to hiring Gill, you are correct.

Looks like UR just aspires to be a diving and field hockey school. We have given up on the real sports.

Queally's aspiration is for us to become a premier Lacrosse school, and I'm sure he doesn't mind trashing the traditional sports in the process.

Another year of compete, keep it close. Sherod won't be much of improvement on defense. Don't expect a 8 game win turn around.

This is truly brutal. How is Mooney not accountable for what HAS ACTUALLY HAPPENNED already and not what MIGHT happen next year.

In his own words, the rising junior class is the best class we've ever had. The team has gotton worse each of their years here and we have lost 20 games each of the two years he has coached this best class ever. He's admitting what a horrific job he's done? Why not hold him f___ing accountable for somehow finding a way to be so bad with the best class ever.

So next year, when we go right around .500 if we are lucky, does he stay again because we are improving??

This is like a gut punch. Made a call yesterday that was returned today about my giving and eliminating/scaling it back etc. in light of my lack of confidence in the current leadership (but sighting basketball as evidence of the overall lack of commitment to excellence) . The person I talked to seemed distraught and actually equally frustrated and that makes sense since this weak ass decision makes their job all the more difficult. I stuck to my guns on the giving and the person basically told me that someone else from the administration would call back to "explain" and try to restore my confidence. Can't wait for that call! Only wish it was Hardt (or Crutcher) so I could bitch slap the person who actually deserves it and not have to be nice to some underling who is just a good person doing a job made all the more difficult by an idiotic AD and administration.

Honestly there is no justification to this at all. Yes, we'll be better next year for several reasons but THAT IS NO JUSTIFICATION for keeping a guy who has created the ability to better simply by being bad and getting worse. If we play one of the best OOC schedules in the league next year as stated, our season will be over by Xmas because we have no chance to be better than .500 against that schedule. Then we'll be OK in the A-10 and I'll have to listen to all this drivel again because of all the "progress" we made.

not that this should need clarification for the 10th time, but the "best class ever" statement refers to next year's junior class. not this year's sophomore class or last year's freshman class.
yes, Grant and Jacob are constants.
but Cayo wasn't a player until this year.
Nick wasn't in this class until this year's redshirt.
and Blake wasn't here.

Semantics. Players from "best class ever" made up 60% of our starting lineup both seasons, correct? 80% at times, even. 25-40

whatever. I'm looking forward to 2 years of them together. with some very nice pieces in the 2 classes behind supporting them.
We are all behind the players and want them to succeed. “No question about that, no question about that” as the great Greg Burton would say.

Why in my message to Hardt, I said the #1 & #2 goals were to WIN A10 titles and go to NCAA Tournament. And no, have not received any response from him so far, and doubt I will. Not that they ever ask any of us for feedback that matters. I do believe they'll see a big drop in Spider Club donations this year, and not just because of tax law changes. Mine are certainly being diverted.

I am too. I just felt you were arguing Philly's point on a technicality.

If the "best class ever" is indeed our starting five next year (which seems likely), it will be kind of wild to see a line-up of all Juniors.
