Is Shaeffer the worst coach in Division I??

I wonder if if Coach Shafer's new fast pace style and theme, " Embrace the Pace", had
a positive influence on recruiting? On paper this seems like a very good recruiting class.

The good recruiting class is a result of this thread on the message board. After reading it Coach Shafer knew he had to improve results of women's basketball or endure reading more discouraging posts. Have to give him credit for that.
Fan could it also be, not only viewing the board comments, but most likely the AD viewing the board's comments and looking at the history of his program. Like you, I give him credit for making some significant changes in his approach to coaching. This years team played with more energy and was entertaining. But still a ways to go.

It's not like she was getting a lot of playing time, which is surprising considering the talent (or lack of) that we have on WBB. Shafer (or Shaffer or Schaefer or whatever) has some questionable coaching methods. Not that anyone cares.

Wow, straight from Tuckahoe Elementary School to college? Impressive!
LOL good one. But she looks pretty quick and uses both hands well shooting in the lane and dribbling. She will not certainly not
hurt our ball handling need or need for some good defense. Need to replace Murphree who was our best defender but not much an
offensive threat.

A Juco Transfer? Wow, Schaefer's doing pretty good.

Jayana is in the Top 10 of school Assists all time.Sounds like a clone of our graduating Murphree.

Somebody must have lit a fire under Schaeffer/Shaffer/Shafer's butt. A Grad Transfer AND a JUCO? Sounds like they've got someone on staff who know's what's up.

Is this the same Coach Shaffer who hasn't made an NCAA tournament in 13 years? Is this the same Coach Shafer who couldn't get out of his own way the past few years, and kept using the injury excuse for most of his tenure? Is this the same Coach Schaefer who probably wouldn't be here (because he would have been gone 7 years ago) if this were a big time school who paid attention to all sports? If it is, something has changed. Maybe Hardt is putting his feet to the fire.

This will be the same problem that Hardt has with Mooney. You may be able to motivate him to put more effort into recruiting, and may see some better results - but that does not change his coaching DNA. No ability to change, poor in game coaching, plays down to comp, but not up to comp, etc, etc, etc, etc. No strategic advantage. Does not seem like that will change.

23 I do give Shafer credit last year for recognizing a style of play that would allow him to be more competitive based on what he had and did like the theme. At Georgia he was their primary recruiter so he should not be lacking in that skill. To be honest the horrible deaths of his assistants kept his job for the sake of the remaining players and bad PR. I enjoyed the games last year and hope with some more new blood, it will continue moving upward.

She has a scout score of 90 and is 3 star recruit on ESPN.

She was first team all D1 all-state last year

Also chose UR over P5 programs

Give credit where credit is due. Schaffer has stepped it up with recruiting. I’m sure the new basketball facility has already something to do with that.

Trinity girls basketball player commits to Richmond

Trinity Episcopal basketball player Elaina Chapman had offers from Florida, Virginia Tech, Indiana and Clemson. But she's decided to stay home. Chapman has announced that she is committing to the University of Richmond.

Chapman wants to be an emergency room physician after college, and she liked Richmond's academic opportunities.

"Richmond has a great biology program, and it will help put me one step closer to becoming an ER physician," she said. "The most exciting part about going to Richmond is the fact that I get to play in the place where I grew up,"

A 6-foot-2 rising senior forward, Chapman was named All-Metro her junior year. She averaged 19 points and 12 rebounds and became the program's all-time leading scorer when she notched her 1,552nd point.

In December, she was named most valuable player of the Times-Dispatch Invitational Tournament, when she averaged 20 points and 16 rebounds and led her team to the tournament title.

This likely had a great influence on Elaina's decision:

85 percent of the university's pre-health graduates gain acceptance to medical school in their first year of application. The University of Richmond tied for 30th in US News and World Report's 2010 ranking of liberal arts colleges.

This is an amazing rate of acceptance to medical school.

It may have been a bit of a push by Hart to pick up his game, too. :)
