I have a theory

DB are not stopping the run, so put Day or one of the other linebackers in to help stop the run. Our run defense was horrible. 368 yards rushing!!!!!

We did that too. On the way to 368 yards rushing. Were you watching?

G Collins needs to be our primary running back! Give that man the ball!

Can't rely on a guy that puts the ball on the ground so often.

While we're working on theories. Can you tell me why our team can barely get to the 20 on kick returns but our opponents pick up great starting position most of the time?

Durden ain't worth a damn either, he was the same way at jmu that's why he lost that job. His family better start packing soon again. While I'm at it braith-whatever his name is sucks too. How you gonna let a guy run for 300 on you???

VT take your negative comments and go to gobble land until you can take a loss and be a man we have no need for personal attacks on our coach we will rebound

VT you gotta have patience. You've said many times you should be coaching this team, and when you do no one will even possess the ball on our side of the field - but for now you have to accept that Huesman, Durden, etc. are inferior and will soon be forgotten by the legacy you leave.

Next time I'm home I'd be glad to put for sale signs in those guys yards. Huesman was a great defensive coordinator for us but he ain't worth a damn so far as a head coach. I'll give him two years but he's not starting off well. We were supposed to be national title contenders. Look at us now.

I have a theory- Elon is a pretty good team-getting better. Sommers was a terrific back before
he played us. Elon is loaded with sophomores and freshmen that play. And next year
their freshman qb is going to be leading a very good team.
But, no matter who we play, 4 fumbles and less than 100 yards rushing, is losing football.

We have a lot of ingredients to be a national contender, but we are missing a few. Neither our O nor D line is strong enough, let alone dominant enough to realistically put us in the final 4 or even final 8. Perhaps that will change as the season progresses, but out D line was embarrassingly schooled today (well, yesterday technically). When you can't stop what is coming, even when you know it is coming, repeatedly, then you are not a serious contender with that level of line play.

We have a 225 pound right defensive end. They ran all over the right side of our line all night. This is not a mystery. It has stunned me that nobody else has abused us in this glaring area of weakness until now.
That is size D lineman from 60s. Mo the most glaring thing regardless of size, is our
tackling technique. I was 170 pound DE in HS and was in trouble against 230 pound tackles
straight on. But I would use speed to try to get around since blockers did not have freedom of
extending their arms like today.

But I was taught to hit low and most important, wrap my arms around their legs like ball and chain.
Watch replays and our DBs try to use their shoulders to knock ball carriers down. Instead ball carrier bounces off and keeps going for extra yardage. A RB cannot gain extra yardage if their legs are
immobilized. If you hit them high, you had better be stronger and hit them with speed. Our DBs
especially are not tough enough and are very poor tacklers. We need our DBs more like David Jones!

Apparently recruiting to be competitive in the CAA is far different than recruiting in the SoCon. You cannot compete in the SECish CAA with undersized linemen.
Russ has recruited one class and is redshirting a number of them. Therefore, we can conclude now that he can’t recruit linemen, or otherwise, in the CAA? He may not be a capable CAA recruiter but I think it is a tad early to make the assessment.

Not to dwell on the past, but I don't think Rocco left because of vision or Gill or Broadus or the status of the locker and training rooms.

I think he left because he realized he recruited in a subpar fashion after the Craig, Evans, Vergos class. Those were really big losses. Our lines are currently lacking in talent. .
So Danny Rocco left to coach at a direct competitor, because of the offensive line? That is about the most asinine thing anyone has ever said about Rocco leaving. You fail to comprehend the destructive extent of Keith Gill on the football program. Your comments also undercut the work and effort of our players.

Because we run the same return EVERY time, always up the middle between the hashmarks, we are too predictable in our play calling. And on kickoffs, I don't believe that we have had a single touchback all year, that's 25 kickoffs folks. Isn't that why we brought in the graduate transfer?

I'm not putting the problems on the coaching, but I've had a problem with the play calling. Elon was over pursuing all night, and we only ran one miss direction play (and it went for a long score). We have no short yardage running game, it's time for some out of the box thinking.

All is not lost. In 2008 after we lost to JMU at home to drop us to 4-3, I thought all was lost. But anything can happen.

In no way have i questioned the effort and hard work of the student athletes.

It does take more than one year to make ajustments in recruiting with a new HC and staff. Looking forward to UR signing bigger linemen come Feb. 2018.

what are you talking about my point is we gave uo 368 yards rushing, we only had 91???
Whomever, is calling our short yardage plays needs to be running laps. Our O line/Jumbo package gets no push at all, yet we continue to try??? The 3rd and 2 stumble and the 4 and 1 slip killed the game.

I think the bye week is coming at a good time for everyone, including the fans. Let's see what these guys can do. Last night they responded well to the 2nd quarter adversity. Let's hope that they can figure some things out and get us moving in the right direction as we move further into conference play.

After more thought, let me boil this down further. We are going to win less games than we hoped this year because of the departure of Muse and bad recruiting misses on Andre Booker and Kolby Williams. Can't miss on DL prospects like that at our level and expect to be elite.

Rocco ran a 3-4 and had no Nose Tackle for this year's roster. Let that wash over you.

I just don't see that kind of turn around for this group. I hope I'm wrong but I think we're on the outside looking in on the playoffs this year. Huesman had some defensive ends on that 2008 team that could play.

Our lack of size on D hurts....certainly know the players are giving their all....maybe team meals with lots of beef and potatoes added to the already good strength training?........or are they doing that already and it takes time to beef them up?

The most physical unit on our team is the WRs. Tons of yards after the catch. We actually have four good rbs but Collin's lack of ball security is a huge problem. Our run blocking is not good but the two short yardage fails late were on the rbs who just fell down on their own.

We haven't had an impactful d-lineman in several years. Someone who draws double teams and can impact the pocket without having to blitz extra guys. Elon was by far the more physical team yesterday. They literally ran over us. We have a beautiful passing game and a highly skilled qb and WRs but the ol and dl aren't championship level right now.

There are some weak links but it is not Coach H. There are some strong links on this team, Kyle being one. It was a tough loss because we all have our sites set high. We can still achieve success this season. I love the way Spider Nation has set the bar high. When I can on 6-5 was considered a good season. I hate it when all of a sudden the world will end because one got away from us. I hope the players take this loss as a wake up call. We can still do some great things this year.

No one disputes your opinion, but based on the eye test this is not a playoff team. Without KL and receivers...we'll yes don't.'t go there. Our unfavorable schedule will be challenge to be a .500 team.

we've got to find a way to stop the run and to run the ball against top level competition. I put most of that on our lines

When was the last time an individual opposition runner ran for 300yards in a single game against a UR defense? Not sure that's ever happened in our gridiron history.

I would agree with this. Through 4 games, the Howard performance appears to be the oddball. We have played pretty poorly in the other 3. Hopefully, we look like a new team out of the bye.

I think Terrance West put close to that on us in 2013.

Believe we went 6-6 that year and it was DRs 2nd season. We shockingly lost to URI that season 12-10 in Kingston. The world was ending.

Losing Billy Caughell did not help either. He is a top end CAA player.

Also, now that Legg is no longer in charge of special teams, what is the excuse? Can't sit here and blame it on him anymore huh?

My biggest issue with the team thus far is the lack of consistency and improvement from game to game.

Kyle and the receivers are elite. No matter the scheme / conditions they will perform. But what have we done to improve the run game / run defense? We may not have the ideal personnel up front (recruiting, injuries, etc), but we have to adapt and put ourselves in a position to succeed. Also, losing Brendan Coniker has proved to be a bigger deal than expected. He is the leader of the defense, and we need him back to help solidify the defensive backfield. Gordon will either improve his ball security or not play. Knowing the type of kid he is, he will make an extra effort this week to improve his practice and game habits.

The bye week could not have come at a better time. This ship is not headed in the right direction, but we have time to turn it around. I believe we can go undefeated in October and position ourselves for a chance at the playoffs.
