High Point Showdown in DC

If we lose this one, I hope the bus is one passenger lighter on the way back tomorrow evening.
Have we ever beaten Tubby?

He scheduled us (home and home )at Minn and Texas Tech. Pitino(Minn) coached one of those games- Tubby I believe won the other three.

I think we may have beaten Minnesota one of the times Tubby was coach, but not 100% sure about that.

High Point is a better team than us. It is hard to write that. I may go this game as I will be in DC briefly this weekend. Undecided. I could have the arena to myself which actually has some weird appeal. I've never had less enthusiasm to want to go to see Spiders play. Hard to write that too.

Maybe we will be a slight favorite, like 3 points. I'm not expecting a large spread. In reality a pick em game. What's funny is we are actually probably picking up a few points playing at neutral site rather than home.

Anyway this would just be another loss to another low major conference school but the best of the bunch.

High Point and South Alabama are both better than us. Can we win one? Yes. Will we? Doubtful.

Random thoughts

With this year's field, they will play in front of maybe 500 people instead of an announced attendance of least 5500+ at the RC.

Did we renovate the RC to play fewer home games?

It worked out for him this year because there is no possibility of the Chant.

I am doubtful of the quality of the opponents that this tournament will attract without a major sponsor.

Attendance issues for Richmond games anytime, as noted by Mooney can be laid at his doorstep.

The argument for easier player travel during the holidays is the only valid point.

I'm thinking of heading up there to watch the Trainwreck. It's at some new arena in SE DC. Don't know anything about the area or how easy it is to get to.

GK - totally understand the appeal of having the arena to yourself. Whatever you say will be heard.

Looking over prediction sites, all have Spiders winning by a close margin 1-3 points. Didn't even realize Tubby was HP coach. Looks like he's continuing with his slow pace of play style. Play efficiently on offense and defense along with rebounding well.

Though HP is a very small squad that must pack it in on defense by their stats? Opponents so far score a lot of points via the 3PT compared to 2PT or FTs. Mooney has to take advantage of GG's size ad inside to get him baskets close to the basket. If GG has one 3PTA, that is one too many. Yes, UR should get open 3PTA and if they make them fine, but don't neglect to try GG down low early.

Just going by stats, HP isn't a good 3PT shooting a team but they don't even attempt many. Surprisingly this small team gets most of their points from 2PT baskets. Unless Mooney gets the Spiders to play better defense, this HP team could give UR problems by getting to the basket for easy shots. So would Mooney try a zone against them?

Bottom line is, Mooney's team should year-in-year-out beat a Big South team like this going by what UR does normally without trying a zone. Good coaches shouldn't have to go away from their normal team's philosophy when you're playing an inferior opponent. Maybe what I just wrote doesn't make sense cause right now the Spiders appear to also be an inferior team.

Former St. Elizabeth's East campus - St. Elizabeth's opened in 1855 as the first federally operated psychiatric hospital in the United States. Has some kind of appropriate "vibe" as the site of this game................

Thanks but how do I get a direct link? Went to FB Richmond basketball nothing

Can any of you watching write #FireMooney in the game chat with your facebook account? I started it and hoping we can get it going so for everyone watching that is what they will see

I pasted the link and it just automatically turned it into the live feed. Click in that box to expand it or pop it out into a separate window.

Or just go do yardwork for the next 90 minutes instead, as I might.

The Birmingham Bowl, featuring Dave Clawson, is coming through crystal clear on watch ESPN.

The sad thing is, as bored as I am right now, I can't make myself to get interested in this game. I may take a nap.
