Gilly sets the All-Time steals record

I was wondering toward the end of the game about whether he was waiting to set the record back on the home court. He definitely wasn’t hunting for steals these last two games.

Congrats to Jacob and one big box left to check.
I started wondering if he's letting this "hunting steals" talk get to him. he didn't go for them all game. the last two games really. maybe that's a good thing? I don't know if our defense was better today partly due to that, but it's possible.. I missed those special steals until he got that record breaker, but can't complain about the results.

I think overall the guards of both Wofford and UNI controlled the ball better and made steals much harder than the sloppiness of the ga states and miss state games.

There are tens of millions of college basketball fans. Very, very few can say they saw an all time NCAA record holder, in any stat, play for their team.

A special moment in Spider history that will be spoken of on this board for decades to come. A special moment for a special Spider player.

Most of us are unhappy with the state of Spider athletics, but we can all celebrate with Gilly on his special accomplishment...and their are many more steals to come in a young season.
Such a great player. We are lucky that he's a Spider!

Where is the UR media on this? Nothing on ESPN…not even in the game summary. Nothing in the Times Dispatch (as best I can tell - I’m not a subscriber). I would have expected UR to be jamming it down everyone’s throats.

Understood. But I would have thought in all the emails I get that this would have been a time for Hardt or someone to send something out.

They sent out a Spider Blast email to the athletics mailing list at 3:58 PM, so within just a few minutes after he broke the record and the game ended, promoting a "buy one, steal one" ticket deal for the Toledo game in honor of Gilly. Also told everyone to arrive early for a ceremony to recognize him.

they have been on twitter -- their new medium, at least for those that follow them.

Gilly was well aware as where he was at in regards to records. I think that definitely put a little pressure on him these past two games.

Glad he got the record. Congratulations to Gilly. It will be something for UR to be proud of for many many years because I don't see this record being broken anytime soon, if ever.

Agree we should have been all over this. Disappointing to see no national media attention (we have done a decent job of promoting it to the "internal" UR community, though most of us would have known anyhow).

I love Gilyard and am often amazed at how he can steal the ball so seamlessly.

However, am I the only one frustrated that he continues to plug his records on Instagram? Is this really why he came back?

How about you start focusing on team wins and being a leader, and maybe just maybe things will start to change.

Not too worried about what guys post on social media in that regard. If I had an all-time record in something, I'd probably promote it here and there too. Mooney is a loser.

Haha fair enough. Probably true — maybe a little qualifier to say something about being disappointed in starting off 1-3 in the A10.

What else is there to promote? Gotta go with the best story available…
