First NET Rankings-#22

Looks like we moved up 2 spots from #63 to #61.

VCU's loss only dropped them 1 spot, from #43 to #44.

Only moved up 2 to 61 NET. Thought we'd get back to 50s. VCU moved down just 1 spot to 44. That one not surprising. Oh well. Keep grinding. Win these next 2 to set up an enormous opportunity with Dayton game.

EDIT - sorry for the redundancy GO, my page wasn't refreshed & just saw your post.

Pretty good result for us. As bad as I want to beat Dayton, if we do lose to them, we hopefully won't drop much, if at all, even if the game is at home. As far as our NET is concerned, we are in a good spot. As a mid major, we just don't want our NET to be too low because I think they will focus more on your resume and not your NET number as long as you don't have a NET in the 60s, which would likely be a little too higher than other at large hopefuls. So, being 61 now is fine because for us to be in the at large talk at the end, we will need to beat some of the top teams (if not Dayton, then VCU and Duquesne), and doing that should help our NET be higher at the end than it is now.

At 3-1, if we can go 2-2 against Dayton, VCU, and Duquesne, and 8-2 against the remaining teams, that will get us to 13-5 and get us some more quality wins. This would leave us with a good resume and likely a good NET.

Losing to Dayton isn't anything to be ashamed of, and isn't going to drop anyone's ranking much. Once Obi got going (a guy on the halftime show called him out, too) they looked like a cat just toying with a mouse against a pretty good VCU team.

Prepare for the RC to become dunk city next Saturday.

VCU might have only dropped 1 spot in the NET but that was an a** kicking that was handed to them on National TV and for a team that is devoid of much on their resume, they needed a good showing last night and they didn't get it.

Here is updated NET. We jumped up 2. I believe that Dayton and the overall strength of conference and OOC, will pull along the regular season #2 team into the tournament.

We're 1-1 vs. the group from Dayton to URI . We've got 4 more games left against that group. Going 3-1 is going to be difficult (pending the Blake health status) but doable. The last of those 4 games is our regular season finale vs. DUQ. I believe STB has a chance to move into that group, they are playing better in Jan than in Nov and they are at VCU on Sat

Lot of hoops to play.

Home opponents being above 75 and Away opponents being above 135 means wins add to your resume.
So I'm not worried about UMass ranking. But would love for Davidson, SBU, GMU, and even LaSalle to get above 135.
But GMU can wait a while to start climbing...

There is no question about that. Outside of the home win against LSU, they have beaten NO ONE.

Does kenpom start w some basis points from previous year? Meaning how u did previous year & what u had returning gave u head start. So that projection may still be in play & not just hard #s from this year. Thought kenpom did something like that I may be completely wrong or you’d think that rating is non factor by now anyway. Wouldn’t explain the NET which doesn’t do that.

Up a couple tonight in kenpom. We’ll see if similar in NET. Xavier lost so I can see us moving by them. But others near us like bama Georgia nc state all won.

I assume Alabama bearing Auburn was a good thing for us. Should bump them up a decent amount and not really hurt Auburn.

We moved up 2 spots to 59.
Alabama jumped to 44 from 58.
Auburn dropped from to 13 from 5.

#2 Butler also lost. Dayton is now the #6 team in NET.

Looking at the remaining schedules, Dayton has 5 away games left against the Top 63 NET.
Would be brutal if they weren't so go.

First out on CBS Bracket today

Auburn AP 16
Dayton AP 7 (highest since 1967)

and for SBU
Rutgers AP 24 (first ranking since 1979)

So if we had to split with the upcoming Dayton-VCU games which game do you want. Signature home win over a Top 10 team or Big Top 50 road win over your hated rival, while spiking their tournament hopes in the process.

I want the Dayton win for sure, it will give us way more publicity and do more for our resume.

I am a greedygut, I want both W's.

But to your question, I would absolutely take the Dayton win. And we would still have opportunity to get revenge at home vs VCU if we faltered at their place. Really hate to have to be missing Blake for these two - I think he is built for these type of games.

The Dayton win puts us firmly in the tournament, and we'd have to screw up to fall out. The VCU win doesn't do that. So give me Dayton.

We're building a strong NIT resume, and that's terrific after the trash that Mooney put out on the floor the last two years. As for an at-large bid? Losing to Radford killed that, and Mooney has one more letdown game in him, and that is with winning 2 of three against Dayton/VCU. I just don't see any love.

nice of you calling our existing players "trash".

So, Duquesne has no true home games this season? I did not know that until last night.
Fortunately, the NCAA is not giving them credit for neutral site games.
Our game at season end will be at the Paint Can (where the Penguins play).

Just imagine if we had to play all our "home" games at Randolph-Macon, the Siegel Center and the Coliseum.

I think if you play enough games at one location it counts as your home stadium.

Of course they are home games. Though, to be fair, they are splitting them pretty evenly between PPG, La Roche, and Robert Morris.

I think it's human nature for the committee and non-computer ranking types to consider that the Dukes are getting on a bus for all of their home games. After all, Andy Katz put them in his power poll and wrote about this very issue - that's how I found out about it!

Fortunately, we have a head-to-head at the end of the season (and potential back-to-back in Brooklyn) to outweigh that consideration.

We moved up from #56 to #54 after yesterday's win. HUGE opportunity against #5 Dayton up next.
We passed SLU and Duquesne, but URI leaped over those two and us with their blowout of the Dukes. Top 4 in the A10 in both NET and KenPom now:
Dayton
VCU
Rhode Island
Richmond

I think our resume is stronger than URI - plus there's that pesky win at their place - so that can only be explained by the disparity in SOS.

I assume that if there aren’t any other reasons for rooting interest, that when two top 8 in the A-10 play each other, the home team winning is best?
I think that gives us the most quad 1 & 2 games.

I had hoped Duquesne wouldn’t drop quite so far since it was a road game.
