FIRE MOONEY

I'm pretty sure we've gotten several three star guys since joining the a10. I think TA and ANO both were, probably others, someone posted this at one point. Conversely, I don't know that we ever got a three star recruit in the CAA.

I of course understand your point, maybe we should have landed more high level recruits.

As far as the point on who we consider Spider greats, I think it's important to acknowledges that our time in the a10 is a fraction of our prior history still, so maybe it looks different in another 15-20 years.

Looks like we recruit poorly and coach them up a notch according to these stats.

We are consistently in the bottom 3 of the A10 in terms of average recruit star rating. Our record obviously does not reflect this. Does that mean Mooney is a good coach because he can coach up low star recruits? Does it mean Mooney is a bad coach since he can't get high star recruits? Or does it mean star ratings are not a good indicator of player talent?

Hmm. Something is going better I thought, as far as being coached up.

Amazing seeing Luke Pio being one of our highest recruits.

Luke is a great example of why the "star" system is not a great indicator of talent. Luke was a 3 star dude because he is 6-11 and you can't coach height.

Similarly, K0 was a 2 star guy and who here would argue that he wasn't one of the best in the A10 during his tenure?

There are clear haves and have nots. Really good guys at the top end project well to succeed in P5 college play and perhaps professionally. Really low/unranked guys are not likely to ever play meaningful time on a D1 mid-major/lower program. The messy middle is sophisticated guesswork and good coaches will identify talent that suits their system that they think they can make into good players.

For me it means he can't/doesn't improve the players he gets. I know this gets old but look at Coach Tarrant, got very average kids and improved their play. DT and TD haven't improved a lick, in fact DT has gotten worse.

CBI only if we get asked to participate. The Spiders looked absolutely leaderless last night. Even Shawndre didn't seem to have his normal fire.

Coach McKillop, in his interview after the game, referred to his team as "having their backs to the wall" after the bad loss at StL and responding accordingly. We were in the same position last night and yet we didn't play like our backs were against the wall.

We played like our backs were against a toilet tank.

And Tim Singleton was ranked higher than most. He never sniffed the floor.

There's 12 games left, but I don't see us winning many road games the way things are.

Singleton was a solid 3 star player if I recall correctly. Either the rating system is TOTALLY bogus, or we just have a knack for significant recruiting misses. There is something wrong with a system that rates TJC on the same level as Kadeem Smithen.

We appear to have our best recruiting class in many years coming in for next season. We need this class to live up to it's hype, and we need to at least sustain, if not improve, the recruiting quality we had for the Class of 2016 for more than 1 year.
