All schools constantly ask for money...they have to...squeaky wheel gets the grease.Exactly. If they had inspired increased donor support sufficiently, they wouldn't keep asking.
This idea has some legs although every decision UR has made around the program indicates that money isn’t central to the plan.some guys here have said that you'd donate but not until Mooney is gone. if you set up something that lists those pledges and it got to a substantial number, you might get the school's attention.
It's almost as if Mooney is bigger than the program. Isn't he the highest paid employee of the university? We've talked about ROI before. Terrible investment. This idea has some legs although every decision UR has made around the program indicates that money isn’t central to the plan.
Yep. It’s hard to know what they care about. They’ve gladly spent $60 million on the basketball program the past decade, so we know they’re good at spending money. Beyond that? It’s anyone’s guess. This idea has some legs although every decision UR has made around the program indicates that money isn’t central to the plan.
Did you see Woj dunk on ford after the game? He murdered him with words.I’m just glad Mooney has never used the excuse Travis Ford used against Bonaventure. Saying that the Bonnies got to play at the same court the day before so they had the advantage while SLU had to play at a different court.
What a sorry ass excuse from a sorry ass coach who runs a sorry ass program.
And even knowing how pathetic it is, it’s still way better than the past decade of Mooney

I see Rhoades as staying at VCU for the long haul. I think with his family and being here before with Randolph-Macon, he likes the Richmond area. Plus - he left and went to Rice for a few years, so he knows what life is like on the other side. Plus - he has shown, he can be successful at VCU just by making the tourney, which he is doing.Rhoades was mentioned as a candidate for the BC job, along with Schmidt as has been stated previously.
Sounds like the South Carolina job may also be coming open?
At some point, as a college basketball player and now a coach, wouldn't professional pride come into play for him and he'd resign, maybe go somewhere else? He might have a better record planning weddings anyway.
He went to Rice.... That's not exactly "the other side." He'll leave like anyone would if he gets an offer to coach a top-25 ACC team and twice as much money. Though I don't expect that to happen anytime soon if ever.I see Rhoades as staying at VCU for the long haul. But left assistant job, was it to be head coach at Rice?I see Rhoades as staying at VCU for the long haul. No, but I'd like to find out.Imagine that – a few years ago, Martin had South Carolina – a program we beat as a 14 seed in the NCAAs in 1998, by the way – in the Final Four, now they want him fired. Meanwhile, we are perfectly content to enjoy a decade without any NCAA appearances with our coach. Can you imagine how long we would keep Mooney if he delivered a Final Four?
That's what's meant by 1) accountability and 2) winning matters. It seems like our priorities (whatever they could be) are upside down & inside out. I think loyalty to Mooney > success of the program.Imagine that – a few years ago, Martin had South Carolina – a program we beat as a 14 seed in the NCAAs in 1998, by the way – in the Final Four, now they want him fired. There's a million plus $ reasons not to resign at a job that has little pressure. No one can convince me that there is "real" pressure because if there was then he'd have been gone a long time a go. Yet here he is. And here we are with even reduced expectations for the next several years. Great gig. We should all be so lucky. At some point, as a college basketball player and now a coach, wouldn't professional pride come into play for him and he'd resign, maybe go somewhere else? Yes - the lady on the unicycle, the dancing dogs, and the baby race. Entertainment at it's best. That is what you're talking about, right?Recruit good kids that don’t embarrass UR, and graduate; only requirement. Win and losses are secondary. Rewarded with $1.3M annual payout. Are you entertained?
Hahaha like there is a chance he can lead a team to the final four. KA led us to a sweet 16, not mooney, that is more obvious every game the guy coaches. No, but I'd like to find out.
Especially if he is here for the long haul anyway.
He will be able to stay there if he keeps winning and gets to the dance every other year at least. If he doesn't he will be tossed to the curb. And Rhoades knows that. I know no one will like to hear this but I respect the Rams for their dedication to winning.I see Rhoades as staying at VCU for the long haul. haha yes, in order to make a final four first you need to make the field
Agreed - I don't like VCU, but have to give them respect for what they have done and I think Rhoades is a good coach for them. Seems like a players coach on offense that preaches tough defense and just a guy who will get his team to go to work everyday and get better. After last season and with losing Silva - looked like they were trending down. Instead - he has them at top of A10 and in finals. He will be able to stay there if he keeps winning and gets to the dance every other year at least. If he doesn't he will be tossed to the curb. Agreed, VCU's resume is not even that good. They just beat the teams they needed to beat. No signature wins at all for them. Sadly, we had several signature wins but then followed that up with an array of really horrendous losses to teams with significantly less talent than us (Hofstra, LaSalle, St. Joes, and Duq).Let's not forget that they fell on their face last year with a team of seniors, too. I'd much rather have Rhoades there than any of the other three guys they had. If we get a capable coach in place, we will start evening things out. The main thing they are good at most years is not losing games they should win. They lost two if those this year, but in a short season it didn't really hurt then even though they don't really have but one really nice win (Bona).
They also win their home games. We don't. They are proof that is not that difficult to maker the tournament. Just don't screw up against lousy teams and don't lose at home. That's it. Mooney can't even do that much though.
