Time to know for certain if we have an AD that is actually doing a job or just cashing the checks.
He won't do it because he knows he can wrangle the terms & conditions when it is more advantageous for HIM, and not the school, fans, alums, students, etc. He's already made the dumb executive decision to move away from Nike to Adidas.Time to know for certain if we have an AD that is actually doing a job or just cashing the checks.
Our fanbase is tame. Coaches would be banging down our door to take the job.Who would want to come into a coaching environment when they have seen and heard what their fan base does to them?
I am in total agreement with your overall post, but technically that's not correct. We did win an 8/9 game as the 9 seed in 2016. We beat Fordham. Whoop! Whoop!5-9 in last 9 years in A10 tourney. Not once beating a higher seed!

Will he "think about it and get back to you?"
There is a reason the other coaches in the A10 like him. It's not a reason to retain him.Mooney is well-liked and respected among his fellow coaches...
Nobody wants him. I hope I'm proven wrong on that front.rather than having him leave on his own power for another landing spot.
Maybe 3 of 8 in D1?we only won 4 of our last 9 games. you have GOT to be effing kidding me.
1 of those 4 was a d3 schoolwe only won 4 of our last 9 games. you have GOT to be effing kidding me.
Agree SF, that is crazy talk. The biggest detriment to a coach coming here is assurances that the admin, AD, and PQ have a commitment to winning. Again, that is my fear that we get rid of Mooney, don't fix any issues, Hardt or that lame search firm hire an uninspiring coach, and we are in this purgatory for 4 more years. If I had to bet, that is what happens. Or, we retain moon and just continue the purgatory. Our fanbase is tame. Coaches would be banging down our door to take the job.

I pointed this out when we hired him.....he's never fired a football or MBB coach in his career. Ever.I say this in all honesty: If Hardt concludes that the time to fire Mooney was NOT after back-to-back 20-loss seasons OR after this season – the most-anticipated in school history that turned into a complete humiliation – then he will NEVER fire him. Ever.
Did he need to? There's always a first time...I pointed this out when we hired him.....he's never fired a football or MBB coach in his career. Ever.
How do you know that's the case? Landis was terrible and stepped down to take an assistant position at SJSU. Good chance he was being shown the door and took an exit ramp.I pointed this out when we hired him.....he's never fired a football or MBB coach in his career. Ever.

Now I'm done being pedantic. FIRE MOONEY

Otherwise, he hasn't had a lot of opportunities. On the hoops side, Flannery retired (stayed at Bucknell in fundraising role) at 50 and Paulsen obviously moved up. On the football side, Gadd had cancer, and Kotulski was a one-year acting HC. I'll give you that Susan lasted nine years with a terrible record and should have been cut loose earlier. Hardt's replacement did so after the next season, and there was a lawsuit over it.
You caught me...I am John Hardt. Been playing the long game.Dang u know too much about Hardt and Bucknell. Can you investigate any connections btw him and Dr. Nassar from his time at Michigan State?
You caught me...I am John Hardt. Been playing the long game.
I hate you!!You caught me...I am John Hardt. Been playing the long game.
Just look at his bio online. Winning championships in revenue sports does not seem to be high on his list of priorities.Oh come on I would never insult you like that. I was actually complimenting you if it didn't come across that way. You are extremely knowledgeable and great at research. And not at all pretentious. So I know you're not Hardt.
Lol we deserve it. And I hate that we deserve it. But sometimes u just gotta laugh.
Yes, that is my observation, I like the way you say it better though. So in other words....we're doomed.
what a sorry team this is. I do blame Mooney but the players are soft, have no heart, and give up too easily, esp. Golden. Any of these seniors who can come back next year, please don’t. You’ve had 5 years to prove you can’t win. Just move on with your lives and spare us fans any more heartbreak.
As for Mooney, he needs to be fired or should resign out of embarrassment. I’m done following this program. Ridiculous!
There is no landing spot for Mooney unless it is a downgrade. No equal or upgrade program or conference would take him.He won't do it because he knows he can wrangle the terms & conditions when it is more advantageous for HIM, and not the school, fans, alums, students, etc. He's already made the dumb executive decision to move away from Nike to Adidas.
Also, not sure if this is the right space buuuuut..... Mooney is well-liked and respected among his fellow coaches and his players have his back. It may do more collateral damage for Richmond to fire him, seen as cowering to these calls, rather than having him leave on his own power for another landing spot. Who would want to come into a coaching environment when they have seen and heard what their fan base does to them?
I don't have a solution or answers to this conundrum but agree, frustrating near-decade of Spider hoops. Players gotta play, coaches gotta coach, ADs gotta...do something more than what they're doing now.
I’m sure Mooney would say that the feel of today’s game was very good. I never saw this interview in the past and honestly can’t believe that he actually said this. Actually second thought, I’m not surprised he said this at all, winning isn’t important here and I can’t support a program with that mindset.
