Fire Mooney

All the money has to go somewhere. Basically have great facilities and image. Then you open the book and realize. When is the last time we won a championship? Oh, that was back in 2011 okay? Don't worry the best year hasn't come yet! Wasn't the best class just here? No, we are still waiting. 10 years later still waiting.

That’s why building a new practice facility is such a “head scratcher.”

The new building had to get named, didn’t it? I’m not so sure that PQ doesn’t care the most about having as many buildings as possible with his name on them.

I think for Mooney it is not hard to do, collect check, get free suits or complimentary cars, gift cards to BWW or wherever. Have to go in once in 16 years to have a semi UNCOMFORTABLE meeting with Hardt, though it probably was not at all. Yep, can see how he does it. Don't like it, but I am feeling his vibe. Again, that discussion I had - probably like 7 years back with the former UVA assistant and head D1 coach: "Mooney has the best job in the land, big contract, no pressure from the admin." Didn't really believe him at the time, but every year that went by I thought back to that convo and said hmmm, maybe this guy that was just in the industry knows what he is talking about. Here we are 7 or 8 years later, and Mooney is not budging. He would probably love to get some guys or girls to put a billboard now so he can play the woe is me card, and the players could have his back by losing three out of four.
I think he gets Land Rovers.

Interesting question. If you decide to come back and Mooney is the coach you’d get 40 minutes a game. Wouldn’t surprise me to see Gilly or Cayo come back. Gilly could break the NCAA steals record and that may have an attraction (ie helps marketability in Europe) and Cayo could benefit from showing further development. I don’t see Sherrod, Golden or Francis coming back though.

I really feel bad for Blake Francis. I love the attitude he plays with and I think he’d be one of my favorite players ever at UR if I followed the team a little bit more than I do. The guy deserves to have a chance at glory in March and I really think he could be a star in a first round ncaa tournament upset game. Unfortunately we will never get to see it.

Francis said he was leaving after this season. Golden is in grad school. May be he stays to finish, but
this has been no fun for any of them. If they feel all the negativity and COVID blahs from the fan base
cause this season did not live up to expectation, then why would they take another chance on a starter t
an ACL or a starter injuring a hand at the most key time of the season or key reserves miss a large part of the season
or a staff and administration that cannot follow protocol and jeapordize the season. So why would any of them stay.

I couldn’t see Francis staying anyway. I do like the way he plays and glad to see Mooney couldn’t take his confidence away from him. The other 4 should stay, but they won’t. They all will think they are NBA first rounders, but will end up playing in Sweden for a few dollars. They would all play 40 minutes and break all the school records.

Contrast the above post game interview after losses to Mooney's predictable drivel!
And don't even get me going about Bennett speaks after losses and Mooney does. If you listened to Chris postgame you would have sworn we won the damn game. Talking about how well we played in the second half. It's March, we just lost probably our biggest game of the season and burned our chance for at large and you are giving a d*mn moral victory postgame interview.

What a crock of crap this has become. And no, we aren't going to fire him, no one cares about the results on the court. If they did, they would have fired him 5 years ago.

Not only that but doing it with one of the most experienced teams in the country and probably most experienced rosters we have ever put on the court. That is not the kind of team that deserves moral victory talk. The guys down the street in a "rebuilding" year with minimal levels of experience are the ones that should be talking about moral victories, instead they thumped us on the side of the head and then beat the team that just took our at large bid dreams without their best player by far. You can't make this shit up. Fire Mooney.

Good point, maybe all of the coddling of our players, is in fact not a great motivator after all. Maybe some players respond to being challenged. Seems to work out alright for other coaches.

I am waiting for the next coaches meeting at Glory Days. Order my wings with ranch dressing. First tough question. "We competed so well i am so proud of our guys". Next question.

Since we don't have anyone here for unbridled enthusiasm. Let me try...

If we lose our next two games we will be 36-15 (.706) over the last two seasons.
If VCU wins the A-10 & NCAA Tournament they will be 44-19(.698) over the last two seasons.

.706>.698 therefore we are the more successful program...

Did I get that right? Or am I drinking too much at work?

All I know for certain is, I'm completely losing it...

Don't think any of this matters. They own the matchup between us.

Theres more to it than simple win percentage. Let me try doing this too.

The past two seasons in the NFL the packers are 26-6 and the top seed in the NFC both years. That’s winning at 81%!

The buccaneers the past two seasons are 18-14. That’s winning at 56%.

81% > 56% so you must be crazy to say the Buccaneers were more successful despite winning a super bowl. Only this one cherry picked stat matters!

You do realize I am not trying to say what I believe? I’m trying to say how it will be justified...

“Did I get that right? Or am I drinking too much at work?”

and the obvious correct answer is, “Both!”

I hate it say it. I saw it coming. I saw how tough of schedule St.Joe played. Mooney everything went wrong.

Losing on senior night with Mooney. Nothing positive to finish a season. Francis and Golden hurt. We got the huge L

Its painfully obvious that what we are doing in the basketball program is not working. It's not opinion at this point, it's a fact. There is no logical argument that can defend the results year after year (except the last 2 KA years) and the lack of NCAA appearances during that time.

This has been the worst coached season I’ve seen of any sports team I’ve ever followed.

there is ZERO justification for Mooney’s return.
So frustrating a season. So much potential yet couldn't actualize. The reality is with Mooney there will always be a reason why we didn't or couldn't.

We finish 6-5 in the conference. So much for being picked first Mooney. Maybe in a different universe where cupcakes exist we finish first. Play St.Mary (Md) three times a year.

HA! Hardt is here to give you a ton of arguments in a few days, just wait.

Hell, even Dooley would have had us in the NCAA Tournament out of the CAA every 5 years or so.

is it possible to keep job with last ncaa in 2011, be 7-20 vs Vcu, be top 25 and preseason #1 in a10 but end up as 8 seed. I mean is it possible? Forget the Queally stuff or Moon man hooked Hardt up on a great deal at Omaha Steaks. Is it really possible? I guess we’ll find out.

& I still think he has the worst record of anyone versus their rival who has been in same D1 job for that long. Anywhere. Ever.

Chris Mooney is a unicorn.
