Demond Robinson - 2019 PF Target

There is more information about these recent offers in the Recruiting Tracker thread, but I was hoping our 2019s would start getting their own threads.

There are some reasonably good programs with "offers" shown in the link above.

The one thing that raises a red flag to me is that none of these schools has much of an academic reputation, and the Ivies and Davidsons (or similar programs) are conspicuously absent. This may not be a huge factor, but I like to see at least one school with an academic rep on every recruit's offer sheet. Otherwise, I wonder how long he will last, even if he does get an offer, and we get an acceptance.... We don't have basket-weaving classes, so recruits will be quickly exposed if they have questionable academic credentials.

I don't have much fear about us admitting students that cannot handle the load. They may need some extra help, and may not graduate top of the class, but they will graduate with assistance.

I’m not sure I recall the last time we had a guy check out on academics. It’s been awhile, agree with urfan1 on this.

I feel like we should be able to beat out that list. The only one that gives me much pause is USF.

This would be a great get I think...hopefully the staff can close this guy. We need something positive for bball coming into the fall. USF I think is the only one that really can provide "better" competition than the A10.

I wasn't impressed with his high school highlights but man, look at his AAU tape from 8/5/18. I LOVE this kid. I hope he's not blowing up this summer based on his summer season, but I bet he is.

He is exactly that kind of player we need. Strong, big body, that doesn’t necessarily play flashy but has a presence in the low post. We have lost too many games because we were out muscled in the paint for rebounds and easy buckets. He would complement Grant very well.

Agree completely 17. We have been weak inside and lacking depth for too long. I know our coaches recruit a "prototype" inside, skilled, can handle and shoot, etc - but that has not worked well lately. We typically seem to have one big guy and he has to play timid on defense because no depth behind him. We need to be recruiting this type of player all of the time. If the outside skills don't pan out, at least it is a Darius Garrett type that can impact the game in multiple ways.

I agree. We need to try and be multi-faceted in our offensive scheme so we can score on teams in different ways i.e. 3 point shooting, low post, in the paint, etc. If we have an off-night in one area or become predictable in our offense, we will have trouble winning games.

Grant is a great presence in the post. Strong, tall, good footwork and can also stretch the defense outside to the perimeter. Cayo and Sal need 1-2 years of building more muscle before they can get to that point. As things stand right now, if Grant is out of the game, we become very weak interiorly.

Mooney wants to find big men who can do everything like TJ Cline. I won't complain if we have more TJs' but sometimes we need an old-fashioned big man who will be scrappy, tough, and won't get pushed around by the basket.

not sure about 3 point range, but Demond looks to have nice form out to 17'.
with a little work, he can be the all around threat Mooney likes. passes well, too.

This looks like a kid who plays even bigger than his listed height because of what appears to be a very long wingspan. I like these types of players in CMs system which is why i think Sal starts his freshman year.

so we don't get an official
fan1, my take was that he was uncertain about his official visits. Also, one has to consider that the article was written by a USF person, thus the favorable USF slant.

He only gets 5, seems to me the only one that may not occur is ETU

“She really wants to visit all of them but we can only visit five. So we’re going to visit the ones we both choose and pick so I know Troy is going to get a visit, New Orleans, Coastal Carolina, I’m going to get a visit to South Florida and probably East Tennessee.”

Well, this is certainly a shocker (sarcasm intended). How can we possibly compete with the basketball powerhouses of New Orleans, Coastal Carolina, and Troy?

This kid had way to many semi-OK offers for Mooney to land. When we roll across the recruit with maybe 2 low mid major offers, seems to be going in the opposite direction of blowing up and a mix tape that makes you say "ehhh, I've seen a lot better", than we know we have the kid that signs with us.

I do predict we send Rob Jones to watch a couple more of his practices and games this year, just to further flush a little bit more of our athletic budget down the crapper before he inevitably signs with USF or ETSU.

Or worse yet, us.
