Danny Rocco "took Richmond Football as far as he could"

after all is said ; attendance ,facilities, or marching band; at Delaware he can recruit the C student who is the A athlete
I remember talking to Clawson at a baseball game where he said, academics at Richmond is a strength. "I'd much rather coach a smart, self motivated kid than anyone else." "But don't miss on a recruit, because once you get them here they don't want to leave."

I went to UR in the 90's and I have never seen a football game be an "event". So I am not sure that it is as easy as you all make it out to be to create that atmosphere at Richmond. I agree we should reach out more to the local community and position UR football as a fun affordable option for families, as well as a local fix for all the football junkies. But Richmond is not Mississippi. It is just never going to be that type of atmosphere.

I Gree it will never be Missisipi however, times have changes significantly since the 90s in terms of marketing and if they establish a goal, i.e. Adding a specific number to the fan base you can develop a plan to to them. ie a few thousand not tens of thousands. Can all be done with a PLAN

In my opinion, it starts with kids. Find a way to tap into the middle school kids who are old enough to understand and enjoy the game and young enough to bring enthusiasm and become a fan. If they want to come to a game, their parents and siblings will likely come as well. We have done a good job on several occasions getting this age kid to the basketball games. Let's do the same for football.

I know it is not Mississippi. However, there are things that can be done to draw more people and make the atmosphere more exciting.

We still have a problem. Lets not forget that. Lets hope some changes are on the horizon. If not , Rocco spoke the truth. We have made a great hire but changes need to be made or else we are will suffer. Rocco's last words " the climate is changing quickly". Lets hope its now in a positive direction.

Oh no not "Climate Change".

We simply need to let our cows die off to control the climate. Fan1 owns a farm and I assume that he has cows. He should take note of the newest science.
The following articles are from PBS' NOVA and FEED YOUR BRAIN, respectively:

"METHANE EMISSIONS HAVE SURGED IN THE PAST TWO YEARS, STARTLING SCIENTISTS"

"DO COW FARTS REALLY SIGNIFICANTLY CONTRIBUTE TO GLOBAL WARMING?"

Quickest fix is to open frats 4 hours prior to kickoff. Really easy. Atmosphere is always better with students in attendance. Hopefully Huesman will reach out to the student body as a whole.

Tom, my statement was about building attendance. Yes, Delaware is a bigger school and they will have recruiting advantages but we have been competitive with them in the past and we are competitive with JMU now. We are a small private school with high academic standards and that will not change. I do believe our new coach will use that as a recruiting tool. Can we make some adjustments in our admissions process to expand our recruiting pool? I think we can without sacrificing our standards.
Ask Flacco if we were competitive. DE and Nova still have the true football rivalry though when I lived in Newark it was West Chester University. The only reason that may change for a short time is the Rocco fiasco. Huesman seems to be of the character that he would look forward to this new rivalry. On interview with Burton, he said his wife would be an interesting interview, because she hates all the other CAA teams. Wow, talk about competitive, I bet RH will be scared to come home after a loss for his hardest critic may be at home.

I go once a year to a Notre Dame game, and I have to say, the atmosphere come gametime is fantastic. It's all based on tradition, though. Developing new traditions will be what ends up building excitement. Opening the frat houses is certainly something that can be done, but tradition is key here.

How about we just market the program better? Where was the CAA championship memorabilia last season? There wasn't any. jmu had there's out literally the day the clinched the CAA this year. Hard to get people excited about the program if you don't market it well.

That statement pisses me off.
I can understand that opinion. Keep in mind he didn't really want more money for himself, he wanted more money for his assistant coaches. He got tired of seeing them take lateral moves for money. And he doesn't feel UR will ever build the football facilities comparable to the best FCS programs.

Personally I thought this year was his best coaching year. 18 season ending injuries, 3 all-Americans, including your QB, and he still gets deep in the playoffs. That isn't nothing but good coaching. Good recruiting, Good payer development, and good job getting new kids ready to step in.

we have exemptions just not so far as some of you wish to go. a smart coach knows our limitations and recruits within them, see Dave Clawson, or he can fight them, see wainwright, rocco.
I would say Rocco did an outstanding job recruiting with the restrictions he had to work with.

Aside from Trott, who left for a lateral move?

Perhaps Trott was just sick and tired of being handcuffed by Rocco's bending but not breaking defensive philosophy?

What games this year? I was at Duke and VT. Sad events, both...

While the frats aren't "open" as in lodge party, they do have student tailgating at the frats, and it's poorly attended.

The 2008 JMU game was certainly an "event." The crowds in '08, '09, '10 at City Stadium were certainly building on becoming "events." In some respects, we lost a lot when we moved to RS. Empty donor tailgate lots is a big gripe of mine. Figure out a way to get people in the lots earlier to make for safer environments without cars driving through them all.

I was at the Miami game. Looking at the score would indicate that it was a good game. Watching the game itself, it was pretty terrible. Sad state of affairs there. Do you have an ND connection?

Dad played there and Irish Catholic that grew up in Louisville.

Very cool! Definitely an experience. I got a masters degree from there.

I generally drive up to SB from Louisville (one of my roommates from UR lives there), and he has gotten on board with me to go to games at ND.
