the start of A10 play is hard too w Davidson Bona & URI. 3-0 is a must. Nothing less. That opener will be tough we can’t take for granted but we’ve done that 3 or 4 times already so unfortunately I can easily see a loss in Charlotte.

Furman and Charleston aren't part of our resume...we don't get credit for scheduling and canceling.

A lot of the wins you're showing in those teams' records are also D-II/III or NAIA or worse opponents, which don't count in anybody's eyes.

Not 100% sure why folks on this board thinks St. Bonaventure sucks. They were picked 4th in the A10.

Not sure how or why.

I said it well before the season started. Without Sherod we have no chance. I thought he was by far the most important player and so far we look like a middle of the pack team without him. I'm really hoping we can just skip forward to April. Only thing to look forward to this season is VCU and Gilly getting steals.

I am completely flabbergasted at how quickly so many people on this board jump ship. We're 6-2, and 4-1 road and neutral. Our defense needs significant work, but our offense is very efficient. We have great player leadership, fun players to watch, and are 30-8 the last two years. What the **** is everyone whining about? That we lost a game to a good team? I got it when we were in the midst of two straight 12-20 seasons, but jesus. Maybe as a fan base we could have a little more fortitude.

30-9 actually. See. Now you get it, right?

Seriously, we have done well the last 2 years with the occasional slip up, like yesterday. But we want to be rewarded. Last year it was taken from us like it was for many. This year, we have to be very careful. The margin for error is very thin even on a good year.

A lot of good points but I think our "leadership" is questionable. The last game showed it. I didn't see one "leader" show any desperation or motivational efforts to get the team on track. Also, a leader rich team would not allow their team to get complacent every time we have a big lead.

If you think we’re going to be holding hands and singing Kumbaya after an embarrassing loss I don’t think this is the board for you!

We’ve waited a decade for a season like this. Ten years. And how are we repaid for that? A loss to Hofstra? C’mon man!

This is so well said. And, let's not forget what every team has been going through with covid. I mean, my goodness, sitting away from each other on the bench, being tested all the time, wearing masks, can't do this, can't do that, cancelled games, different opponents. Yes, it is not just our team having to do this, but it is also not only our team who will have a few hiccups this year. This year, of all years, we should not expect even close to perfection from our team or any team out there. There is no complacency out there. No one is not giving their all. These guys badly want to win, are busting their butts everyday, and should be commended for it.

I don't see that many jumping ship. We really should have no margin for error, and losing to Hofstra is a pretty big error.

Last year, at 24-7, we were on the bubble, with a win against Wisconsin in our pocket.
People are setting the bar at 14-4 A10, which puts us at 20-6 - is that "comfortably in?" We don't have a win like Wisconsin, nor do we have a generational A10 team like Dayton to boost the league's ratings.

If we miss the tourney again this year, what then? Now that Chambers is gone, Mooney has the longest tenure missing the tourney in multi-bid leagues all to himself. And it's not close. He may be approaching the modern era record, I don't know. His reprieve was at least partially based on this team being not just good, but great. His word.

How long until you're "completely flabbergasted" at the next extension with no NCAAs to show for it?

I don't think it is about 1-loss for anyone on this forum. Teams normally win some they shouldn't, and lose some the shouldn't every year.

I suspect that the angst is more about the overall performance of this year's team. Can they get better, sure. But, through 8-games, this team is underperforming expectations by a mile. Anyone who would deny that hasn't been watching the games. Quality of play has been a lot closer to top 60 than it has top 20.

Top 60 makes Richmond an outside bubble team unless they do very well in conference (as noted by others). With the history of the Mooney era, it is logical that many fans are disappointed and feeling uncertain. Has nothing to do with jumping ship.

tough circumstances yes but close to equal for all. But remember this unique year we were told what a huge advantage for us due to lack of prep & practice time and fact we have perhaps the most experienced team in country. That has not played out & we r clearly underperforming we have to be honest w ourselves. Good thing is the players seem to know it so hopefully there will be a renewed edge when they return. But u have to wonder why the energy has not been there. and w Mooney the edge seems to be gone after the extension. PHILLY SOFT.

Hardt says shut up and act like u have been to Iowa before. Maybe if we haven't seen the Mooney choke for several years we could be more optimistic

I actually thought Grant was terrific yesterday. his midrange game was the best of the year. he passed really well, turnovers were down. Burton was great too.

Kante was really good. but I thought the defense by both Grant and Matt was solid on him. maybe he got a little too deep a couple times, but he was money with that hook and he's a strong guy. Grant totally kept him off the offensive glass, too.

I was even ok with our defense against Ray. man hit shots. but we didn't leave him wide open.

and I don't see what some of you think you saw in the first half with us not playing well against a zone. I thought we looked great against it. we got open shots. we had high/lows. we slashed. but we just didn't shoot well from outside again, or from the foul line again. we're just not as good a shooting team as I thought we'd be. if we couldn't get good looks, I'd understand it more. yeah, sometimes we have to launch a long one. but for the most part I think we get a ton of open looks. we get shots that I expect really good shooters to knock down consistently. but we don't. we've gotten away with wins this year despite our poor shooting. not this time. our shooting has to pick up and get back to our career averages.

Gilly is off the charts getting steals, making plays, and finishing layups on both sides of the basket. But I have seen him miss a ton of open 3s. Really would expect that to change, and needs to change if we are going to achieve in conference.
Yes Hofstra is a good team but come on they ran a stagnant offense and just hit shots against us because we didn't play with enough intensity, and let guys bully us a the basket.

Cayo needs to re-emerge, Conner and Sal need to play well enough to reduce Grace’s minutes substantially. Goose plays his heart out every game in the minutes he has. Tyler is just getting better and better with every game he plays. All that said, if Golden doesn’t quit turning the ball over 6 or 7 times a game and the two guards keep throwing bricks from 3, we are in for a long disappointing year. This team better start taking free throws seriously again too. 46% sucks.

At least Golden has his rebounding to fall back on.

Hofsta dunked on us 3 times in the last 90 seconds. All those excuses you just mentioned sure didn't affect them. Whatever they ate for breakfast needs to be fed to the Spiders.

Not about one game, it's about the last 4 games. Problem is, with the strong finish last year, we all bought into the hype about the BEST TEAM EVER. The BEST TEAM EVER should never blow a 9 point second half lead at home to any CAA team.
Now, we see the same old Mooney team issues.

Mooney changed for the better after the Billboard, gets yet another contract extension, now the same old Mooney. Playing all the starters 35-40 minutes, not using timeouts, shortening the bench, etc etc. Great players but lacking fire, that's on the coach. Bring back Charlotte game Mooney! Or the Billboard...

The "best team ever" had the 10th best 3-point shooter in the country. Not an excuse, just a fact.

We have fair weather fans. Shame!!

We also have a large group of fans who thought we were an NCAA lock after beating the “name” Kentucky last month. Our players and coaches need to come back from the Christmas break ready to roll because Davidson is a good team and could easily put us at 0-1 to start A-10 play. This team has plenty of well documented talent and experience but they’ve seemed to drift in and out of games so far this year for stretches. We better start embracing a full game of defensive effort going forward because we will see a ton of zone and can’t just rely on our diminutive guards to shoot us out of trouble.

Mooney apologist already laying out the excuses for us not preforming to expectations during OOC AGAIN! It's every year. Look, I think we can improve our shooting and defense as the season goes along. But so far, its another disappointing season under CM. It's just tiring to read all the excuses year after year.

Maybe the Hofstra ass kicking wakes us up. I hope so.

Correct & accurate.

No one on this board are fair weather fans and all want us to excel. However acknowledging facts are facts are important. There is an expression - "don't fight facts; deal with them". Reality is reality and fantasy is a dream. We are not the team right now that rose colored glasses believe. W/out improvement, it'll be just another year. The potential is there, but it's all on Mooney to get the most out these guys and use the proper adjustments when needed.

What losing? We are 30-9 in the last two years. If this post was dated 12/23/2018, you might have a point. But is there not any recognition at all that this particular group has done a whole lot of winning? We lost a game and we've got seven threads of posts sarcastically repeating "best class ever" and "get Mooney an extension", plus inane stuff like "Blake Francis has no fire in the belly" or "these guys don't care". lighten up, collective Francis.
