Bryce Golden - Butler commit

Stallings may get canned after this season anyway. Stay tuned.

There is a chance Pitt goes winless in the ACC next season, do they even have enough players to field a team right now? If they do go winless, Stallings might get canned. The Pitt program is a laughing stock right now with essentially their entire team leaving this offseason, but Bryce has a chance to be an integral part of the team in a few years when they should be better.

You really thought we had a chance is the funniest part of all of this. That whole scenario of Mooney saving this schollie for Bryce you created was quite entertaining though.
We do still have a chance.
1. Stalling leaves before Bryce finishes his Senior Year.
2. Meanwhile, the rest of his offers get filled.
And there we are...

On a message board filled with ill-conceived ideas, the idea the Bryce was going to turn down a whole bunch of P5 offers to play with his brother was among the worst of the ill-conceived ideas.

Who didn't see this coming? Our staff can't compete with the big boys
True, but the kid has visions of grandeur. He will play a few minutes a game at Pitt for four years and we will never hear of him again. Good luck to him.

Lets schedule Pitt 2 years out so Grant can hang a 20/10 line on his younger bro!

If you knew the family, you would know that Bryce committing to UR was not at all far-fetched.

If it were just Bryce, it would not be an issue.
How many victories have we won in the recruiting arena (Buck and Nick excluded; they were local)?
Even with an "in" with the family, we strike out.
I think that it is an understatement to say the basketball staff is not very good at recruiting.

Who knows why an 18 yr old decides where he wants to be for the next 4 years. We got Grant and he looks like a solid player. Solly is going to be a force as well. Buck, Nicky S, Fore, Gilyard, Cayo.... come on folks we are going to be good. Next man up!

The only chance we have at Bryce Golden now is for the Pitt/Stallings dumpster fire to continue to burn, and Stallings gets canned leaving Bryce an out of his Pitt commitment. In which case he probably goes with one of his other P5 offers anyway.

I think it was borderline delusional to think BG would turn down a host of P5 offers including ACC, Big Ten, and Big East schools to play here. How many of these profile players (especially front line players) have we landed in the last 10 years? ANO is the about the only one who comes close.

I have a hard time understanding why Pitt hired Stallings when they did. He had been on thin ice at Vanderbilt for years. I was expecting Vanderbilt to can him and then see him turn up at some mid-major program. He must have a fantastic agent is all I can say.

So now we get one of our backups, either Forrester or Bates?

No one should compare this to the unending AW3 sagas. The next best thing to getting him is that he made an early decision and we have the entire summer recruiting period to find our new #1 target. Let's all pledge to wish him well and not predict the Pitt coach getting fired after every loss they have next year. Move on. Please.

Not really surprising though. We really needed the family connection to win out

We're certainly not getting Bates...he's been offered by UConn, Purdue, Oklahoma State, Georgia, and Tennessee in the past six weeks. Not to mention many earlier P5 offers.

Forrester is also piling up P6 offers. Penn State is the expected leader, but Kansas State, Indiana, Seton Hall, Providence, and Notre Dame are all involved. No mention of us here:

I'll never understand this line of thought. you're saying he's our dream recruit but he's not good enough to play at Pitt. come on. he'll do fine. the question is whether his team will.

pretty cool to play in the ACC. amazing games every night. some of you would obviously turn down any offer to play at Richmond, and that's fine. others here apparently would be swayed by any smooth talking recruiter in an upper mid-major program and commit over offers from all of the P6 teams. that's fine too. but it's rare when a REAL recruit makes that choice.

I have had zero conversations with the Golden family but know those who have. From them, UR was most certainly in this. The staff did everything right here.
If we did everything right, Bryce would have committed to us. Once again we come up just short on a program changing prospect. And now we move onto Option B and will probably end up settling for Option D.

Even if Stallings has another bad year, Pitt won't fire him after 2 seasons

The staff at a school in Maine did literally everything right to get me there. Best visit to the school, ate with the coach's family in their home, played with their kids, he personally drove me an hour to the airport rather than putting me in a cab. I didn't go there. Maine is a lot colder than VA, the girls were better looking at UR and (at the time), I was really intrigued by the Leadership school.

There's so much more than just a relationship with the staff. We lost to an ACC program on a recruit. Would you rather play in Cameron, Carrier, Dean and Yum or Gola, Rose Hill, Pulambo? Bryce is a 4-star guy. We made a hard play for him and we came up short, so yes, we're moving onto B. Would you prefer that our A guys are 2 star guys and we land them?

Are you going to be pissed if the football team isn't able to land Kaleb Smith? Both of his parents went to UR, his cousin is Kerry Wynn.

I was being slightly facetious. I knew they both had similar lists to Bryce.

This makes it 10x worse, to be honest. I still think there's a decent chance Stallings is gone, and maybe that elevates us to his top choice in that scenario. Time will tell.

And in general, the frustration some of us have here is that other programs in our league are regularly, if not routinely, beating one or several P5 schools for recruits. It happens with probably 10 players or more every year, but it almost never happens for us unless there are a whole host of extenuating circumstances. I have no idea why that is, but it should not be the case.

Stallings' issues and the exodus of recent recruits are related primarily to his conduct last season, which could certainly lead to his dismissal sooner rather than later

1. This is a pattern
2. Other A-10 programs recruit and win battles with P5 schools so obviously this can be done at our level
3. We end up with 2 star guys at the end of the day so what difference does it make
4. The football team has been to the playoffs and advanced in the playoffs year in and year out recently so they apparently are recruiting the right players to succeed at the highest levels.

1. Over the last two years, we've brought in 8 freshmen and I believe we brought in our first choice for each position in 4 of those cases (5 if you count Marquis, who was an admissions casualty).
2. Aside from VCU and Dayton, who is regularly winning the A-10/P5 battle? Mooney won 2/2 of those battles with last year's freshmen class. Both Buck and Nick had in-state P5 offers.
3. Instead of the negative reply - take a stance. Go for the big guys and lose more often than not or go for the low guys and win more frequently. You not taking a clear stance allows you to complian every time, regardless of the staff's approach.

I'm not on Ulla's level when it comes to sunshines and rainbows. I had the fortune of meeting him at an event last year and we got to talk about that. I've also come to learn that there's a lot of people that are going to complain no matter what happens and look to place blame every time we don't win. I'm happier with the staff taking chances on guys that they're less inclined to get because of competing offers. We're going to lose more than we win, it comes with the territory.

We made the final two for a top 100/150 player and lost to an ACC team. The staff is already working on filling that spot and there is a lot of time until the early signing period and plenty of time for things to happen.

Yes that's a real killer. Would have been fun watching the twin Golden towers for 3 years. Seems to be a wonderful family. Very glad we have Grant.

Davidson, Fordham, George Mason, La Salle, UMass, Rhode Island, St. Joe's all have beaten out P5 schools for some of their players.

We're lucky Buck was injured in high school or he wouldn't be here.
