Bryce Golden - Butler commit

I expect his recruiting will gain momentum on the summer AAU circuit. There is clearly some advantage to having Grant on board at UR but I doubt that would factor significantly in his choice if given a chance to go to a middle to upper end P5 program.

Against his current list, I think we are still competitive. I think that'll change by august.

With the "guards" we already have on board, adding Bryce and Grant to our front line would make for a really imposing team. I hope that Bryce will want to play not only with Grant but also with amazing young talents like Buckingham and Sherod.

That would give us four major building-blocks for a deep NCAA run, assuming that "dancing' is one of Bryce's priorities. I hope Bryce will wait to see how Grant progresses before deciding where to play. UR has some unique advantages over the other offers he currently has on the table, and hopefully our coaches (and Grant) are keeping these very much in the daily conversation. Bottom line: Bryce looks like he would be a great addition. Just hope he sees it that way too.

I would love to see him come to UR but the early signing period is typically over around the time the new season starts. I would expect him to sign then as he'll have a number of offers and pressure to decide before spots fill up. It's probably wishful thinking to expect he'll base his decision on grants progress.

At the risk of being a negative nelly, what are the unique advantages we have over those schools? I think we are academically stronger but beyond that, I don't know that we have compelling advantages over his other offers. I'd expect the most important advantage is if we are more tourney worthy (maybe?) and/or can offer him immediate playing time (also maybe?).

I'd add Gilyard to the potential starting lineup for Bryce to consider when he's a sophomore.
1 - Gilyard
2 - Buckingham
3 - Sherod
4 - B Golden
5 - G Golden
man, that could be something. I'll put that talent level up against anyone on his current list.

The unique advantage we have is that his brother is attending here. As others have said, I think either he will want to play with his brother or he won't and that will be the main deciding factor of whether he attends here or not.

Does anyone have any insight into whether Bryce and Grant are close and have a good relationship? I recall that the Plumlee brothers were all pretty tight, and they got along well. There are also instances of brothers who were perhaps not so tight, and attended different schools to escape comparisons and influence of a brother, like the Currys who I believe were 2 years apart.

If they are close, and they get along well, I would expect Grant's presence at Richmond would be a big positive.

It seems that when Grant was playing, his brother was at most games!

If you recall earlier posts by me quoted them saying they wanted to play together. Geez, are you guys getting more senile than the Ulla?

can be close and still choose another school. depends on the offers and the experience he wants. getting to know the guys on the team through Grant is huge, though. you want your team to feel like family. for Bryce it certainly would be.

Frankly, I find it difficult to discern much actual, factual, or interesting information in many of your posts. Distilling out the rainbows and unicorns in order to isolate the facts takes a lot of effort, and results in "Spider Hoops Board" fatigue. Sorry.

^^I'm a lot younger than you are, so I'm probably not senile. Just fatigued.

kind of like posters discussing what colleges their kids get into...same thing. Ulla, never change.

Wouldn't be much of a problem marketing that line up. Students may even show up!!

Bryce had 12 (4-7) points, 10 rebounds and 2 assists as Team Loaded won yesterday.

Hope I'm wrong, but I suspect the ship has sailed here. We weren't even mentioned as a remote possibility in the piece the other day about him, and he is "excited" to see what other big-time offers he gets. Seems unlikely at best that he would pass up a bunch of P5 offers to come here, even with his brother here.

It is what it is. He's going to get a lot of high major offers, and at the end of the day it's either going to be the bright lights or playing with big bro, so I'm not going to get worked about the offers.
I think that's a good assessment. Bright lights are hard to pass up. He is all but guaranteed to play and start all four years at UR, and with Grant for 3 years.

I don't know that he's guaranteed to start all four years, but he would likely get a ton of time, some immediately. He also would have the benefit of knowing what he's getting into with the line-ups and staff which are not as well known anywhere else. I think it would be very difficult to pass up a mid-tier or better P5 offer, but it's not out of the question.

I like your position. and am jumping on your wagon.
Yep, we knew he would get a bunch of good offers. No use fretting over every one, there may be one or two dream schools that would be tough to beat, but We will have to wait and see. What's interesting to me is how the staff recruits this class with only one scholly and kind of waiting on Bryce. Obviously they are likely more privy to information but still is kind of a predicament.

Hey you recruit several good big men and don't put all your eggs in one basket.
Competition for key spot may be a good thing, allowing for may be an early decision.

We are dancing 2 of the next 3 years and that is a guarantee. If Bryce wants jump on board for that then great. If not, he can root for and watch Grant play on the big stage.

He only gets the extra medical year if he loses a second one to a medical issue.

He could grad transfer and not have to sit out a year. I really doubt he does that though, unless we fire Mooney.

In review of the comments above on Bryce's recruitment, one would surmise that Mooney is a non factor in his decision process.

If Grant can rehab and get back to playing like he did his senior year, and with Solly, we should have an outstanding front-line. Grant can play major minutes and is a very good passer and 3-point shooter, so he may very well be able to reprise TJ next season (and beyond).

Hopefully, Bryce can look into the future a bit and see that he will be able to be a part of something really special. It is not always possible to look into the future with precision, but if Grant's rehab goes well, and I am Bryce, I definitely have to think hard about how fun it would be to be a part of the Spider family the next 3-4 years.....

The Goldens seem like a tight family. Hopefully mom and dad will want to see them both play all their games at the same place at the same time. I know I would like to see that!! :)
