Bracketology update

Palm has us playing Texas Tech in the play in, both 12 seeds. He also has Utah St. playing Texas in the other play in, both 11 seeds. The typo with NCC is still up on the right side. Funny. Can't they fix that?
Perfect example of how the bubble is against us. Texas wins a miracle game against a mediocre opponent and moves up in the bracket. And OK is a very mediocre opponent. And we dominate a mediocre opponent and stay put.
And worst of all OK stays a 10 seed. Proves my point in one game... all wins are good and no losses are bad.

From the above article:

Richmond Spiders

Forget tourney-bound teams. The Spiders rank top 15 in all of D-I in both of these metrics [Field goal efficiency and FT%], and with a top-40 mark in KenPom's continuity metric, we are looking at a team capable of winning a close game against anyone in the nation. They need to finish the regular season strong and make some noise in the Atlantic-10 tournament, but if this team gets invited to the dance, don't be shocked if the Spiders compete at the highest level.

Thats great and I agree but the most dubious statement in the article is “if they get in” and “make some noise”, meaning we arent that close. I like his positive take on the team though and do agree we would do some damage.

When I posted I didn’t notice but now I do
“Don’t be shocked if the spiders compete”

Interesting looking at pages 1 and 2 of this thread after we lost to VCU. A lot of people said we were done. Congrats to the team on an 8-1 stretch since then to get right in the thick of things.

VCU was a turning point for the season. There is a lot of optimistic talk on here, but even if we win every game until the A10 finals there is a significant chance that we still won't receive an at large bid. We haven't 'controlled our destiny' since the VCU loss, and destiny has not been kind to us.

While I agree with what you are saying for the most part, It is still great that we are in the conversation. We are going to make it....

After watching how this bubble has played out, next year for OCC we should schedule 3 games hoping to hit net between 150-200, then the rest top 50 net teams. 3 warm up games and then all chances to get good wins, as apparently there aren’t bad losses in the top 50 so going 2-8 will be better than going 8-2 with a mediocre schedule.

Obviously, easier said then than done (P6 teams would have to agree to the games), but it looks like the Net rewards the we’ll play anyone anywhere mentality over the perfect schedule to make the tourney (Lunardi) mentality.

It was written in a breakdown during last nights URI game on CBSSN.
Had Big10 - 9 Pac12 - 8

He doesn't even have an 8th Pac12 team on his bubble watch list.
List the 8 teams or you're bringing the wings.

Went to the Dayton - URI game. My take away: Dayton good, Rhody bad. As much as I bang on Mooney, Cox is worse. Terrible offense and lack of adjustments, bad shooters keep jacking it up. I have seen it twice in person now. I thought maybe our game was an aberration, but talked to a former URI player before the Dayton game and he was disgusted with the coaching. Really shocked they finished as high as they did, guess they can out athlete most of the A10
But Dayton , boy they are good. Play defense rebound, make the simple and smart play. And doesn't hurt to have Obi.

23 - glad you were able to attend the game. Watched it on TV. Cox appears to let the players do what they want. Of course after Hurley any coach would appear mild mannered.

Unnecessary worry about the bubble.

I'll be shocked if the A-10 doesn't get at least 2 teams in. More likely will be 3 depending upon how A-10 tournament plays out.

UR is solidly second in the standings. UR is IN, UNLESS they lose to Duquense, and lose in their 1st game of A-10 tournament. Then, the bubble would be real.

I suspect UR can even survive an unlikely (St. Louis or St. Bonaventure for example) stealing a bid with the tourney win, UNLESS they lay 2 eggs in a row in the next 2 games.

Rhode Island is the team that should be really concerned about being on the bubble

I agree with you, but then again I'm shocked at how many prominent bracketologists have us outside looking in.
The A10 is too good to be a 1-bid league.

If you lopped off the worst 4 teams any given year in the A10 I wonder what that would do to the overall national view of the league? Maybe we need to get back to being the actual Atlantic 10 instead of Atlantic 14.

Nice to see that Wisconsin is currently the 1-seed in the "best conference in America." That should say something about the quality of our league, or at least about us.

wait a sec...my post last night was deleted?...and without explanation. Reposting since I believe had to be a mistake. I mean can we have a sense of humor. This was not a political post at all, just had a politician in it. It's a post mocking our competition...

Love it. Virginia is a lock but the rest should be in the NIT. OK is still in as a 10 and I can't believe they didn't drop at all after losing to Texas at home.

Not solidly getting two because the second team is not VCU. If VCU had our record right now they would be an absolute lock and likely a 8 or 9 seed.

The past couple of weeks I've been thinking that Conference USA's bonus schedule has some merit. It's not working for C-USA because they're not starting with any bid-worthy teams. But for a conference like ours, with half the league in the Top 90, I think it could work. I'd be willing to risk an additional loss if it meant the top 5 teams were guaranteed at least two games against each other. Instead, we got two games against GM, GW, and La Salle. Sure, it padded our record but not our resume.

Im telling you what was on the screen last night but maybe it was a misprint.

I tried to warn you last night. :) Even mention a name as part of a joke and they'll edit it out.

Their rules trump our sense of humor. It really berns me up but I'll just be biden my time until the mad season passes.

I don't disagree but we all know how one post even meant as sarcasm about anything political can ignite a firestorm on here. Appreciate the mods keeping that out of here.

I don't care to know what anyone else political thoughts are on here. Lots of places, I can go to bang that monkey if I want to, but I only want to bang Spider hoops on here.

Back to the brackets, what is crazy is we are seeing 10 big ten teams in brackets and one Atlantic 10 team. Yet, the second-place Atlantic 10 team beat the big ten's possible one seed Wisconsin. That at least has to make the committee take a second look at us if this is how their bracket might look.
