BEAT IOWA!

Not taking any game in March lightly. But someone earlier said that your team is loaded with experienced seniors. We lost 4 of our 5 best players from last season, 2 to the NBA, so it would be expected that this team would need some time to figure it out. Given your experience, I would imagine that your team in December/January would actually have advantage over younger teams who are still gelling.
Yeah the early season gelling thing was our initial theory as well but then we lost to St joes at home by 30 … this team has peaked at the optimal time and anything is possible in Western NY in sports on ice or a court

From the sounds of things, I don't understand why anyone would try to run with Iowa if that's it's strength. We are more comfortable playing in the 65-75 rage anyway, and we tend to make a ton of passes on every possession. Sometimes too many. I'll be shocked if this is a game in the mud 80s or higher.

Agreed … I would much rather be facing Iowa (no offense to my fabulous new Iowan friend) then Illinois and Kofi the giant …

The Iowa fans do not realize the sacrifices our guys have made. Grant Golden was carted off on a stretcher in a game, because of a near heart attack.

Have a lot of respect for Iowa and their overwhelmingly respectful fan posts here. Lot of good info. Credit to them and their school. They are a damned good team and a most worthy opponent.

That said, the Spiders are not chopped liver and you are in for much more of a game than many of your posters expect.
Oh yeah, I’m looking forward to it. I watched your game Sunday and think you guys have all those pieces that a mid major needs to make a run.
1. A PG who can impact the game on both ends of the floor. 2,000 point scorer for his career and NCAA all time steals leader. Always under control and every dribble is so efficient. Can create for himself or others in late shot clock situations.
2. Sherod is a good defensive guard who can bring energy.
3. Your SG is an NBA pick potentially and has a sweet stroke with a high release.
4. Garbage man in Cayo who brings some athleticism and length to the front court.
5. a good big man in Golden. Good big men can give Iowa troubles so we can’t let him get going.
6. Gustavson gives your juice and scoring off the bench.

plus, your guys are experienced and tough. It should be a good game.

You have 2 and 6 mixed up.

I've gotta say, after watching us in the Big Ten tournament and then watching Davidson vs. you guys, it looked like Davidson was moving in slow motion on offense. Not saying we're going to run you off the court, but there was a noticeable difference in pace of play if you're looking for a comparison.
You will likely score more than Davidson did against us but we will likely score more against you... touché. Now that there is some real 5th grade smack Plydog.

Iowa fan here. It’s cool reading posts from all your fans. Some things I haven’t really seen posted. Iowa will has a tendency to go off for a dozen in a row in a heartbeat. I think your coach needs to be aggressive with timeouts. Iowa will shoot crazy quick threes. I think Fran subscribes to the theory that a wide open deep three might be better than any shto you get later in the shot clock.

Iowa has trouble with athletic thick defenders who work hard on defense. If the motion offense is put in jello, they really struggle. It’s going to be about Iowa and their outside shooting as well as Richmond keeping Keegan off the offensive boards.
Wow... did he say we need our coach to be aggressive with timeouts? Holy shit, Im not even going to watch this game.

My Hoo son, a season ticket holder and a very good judge of basketball, saw Iowa take down UVA by a point in late November. Sees a lot of Spider games too. He believes we are easily capable of beating Iowa.

I'm going with my family and my Spider family. We will get this done! (He believes we win the second game too).
MyHooSon appears mysteriously in Iowa. Who knew?

I will say, between the national media, all the bracket shows, and all the gambling podcasts, never ever ever have I heard so many universally on one team as they are on Iowa. When I saw the bracket come out, I too thought this was about as crappy a seeding/match up as we could receive, which is fair as a team that was not in the tournament until we won the A10 tournament. The fact that this is maybe the most universally picked team to reach the final four in the history of the tournament actually gives me a little contrarian hope. I was in the car yesterday, I turned on a podcast I listen to , and all 3 talking heads immediately begin drooling about Iowa. I am taking this as a sign. Also, I am personally off to a stellar 2022 rooting season. Have been an LA/STL/LA Rams fans since the days of Pat Haden, Vince Ferragamo and Lawrence McCutcheon. 4 for 4 on my college rooting interests making the dance, including Delaware and Richmond, which were long shots as of about a week and a half ago. Feeling some positive energy for a sweet 16 run here.

I think we are close to being that good. Playing that well in tourney games is a whole 'nother thing.

If we play the way we have been, it's a 20+ point win. I have way too much respect for the Spiders (and a little trepidation after laying an egg vs Oregon last year) to assume that's going to happen. I think we win, but maybe in the 10 point range.

Iowa will be a tough matchup for anyone who doesn't have outstanding guards and/or a dominant big man. Gonzaga and Arizona obviously fit this profile.

I watched highlights of their last two games last night. What I dont see from them is any post play at all. Their main Big #23 averages 1.9 a game on 20 minutes and the other Mulvey is under a point per game. And neither is a dominant defender inside. Purdue’s giant had his way often if he got the ball low, he is 7’ 4” I know. Golden could have a big game and should be the focus on offense like in the Dayton game.
They are predominantly a 3 point shooting team in half court, and score many of their two point fg’s on offensive glass and fast break. Against Indiana they took 32 3’s and had to make 14 of them to escape with a last second win. Making 14 3’s and barely winning is on the lucky spectrum if u ask me.
Get them in a half court game, make getting the ball low to Golden the primary plan on offense just like in the Dayton game, have Goose smother Murray all game and play them very tight outside the arc, not worrying too much about guarding the post.

All of those amazing players from last year and how far did your coach take Iowa in the dance as a 2 seed? With that history it is surprising their is so much confidence on your side. Just saying.
I'm not confident at all. Some of our fans obviously are but we are not Duke and no one that has been around awhile as a fan forgets losing the way we have in the tournament. Fran hasn't made sweet 16 as our coach yet and while this year looks promising for us I doubt there is a fan out there that has booked their travel for that round.

All I know about Iowa is that they have “real fans”. The kind that show up no matter if the team sucks and they never complain. They are meat & potatoes people. They hate billboards because words scare them. They don’t care about misspellings or bad grammar…and they love a good regatta.

I think that’s everything Hardt has taught me, but I’m sure I’m blatantly ignoring some meaningful factual information (coincidence???)
No one here knows what this regatta thing is your talking about. Is it a pasta? We do like food

As much as some of us have complained about the "no offensive rebounds" concept, sounds like it may play well here - as long as we are doing the other part - which is get back and locate a man and make them run offense for 30 seconds. I feel like this is a game where we are going to have to make some shots early and either get a lead or keep the deficit manageable, so the pace stays slower. We will be in trouble if need to play from behind right away.

To be fair, that was a tournament environment game on their "home" court. And Indiana was playing for their postseason life. That was a very nice win for the Hawkeyes, regardless of how it happened.
We were also playing for our postseason life 90 minutes from our campus against one of the top offensive teams in the nation Sunday. So if we're equal to Indiana, then maybe you're pretty similar to Davidson. I think it'll be a good game.

Our AD went to Iowa. When we strung together back to back 20 loss seasons, he basically told us to stop complaining, and be like the Iowa fans that come out and cheer like crazy even if the team and product sucks. Hardt talks about regatta's and hides in his office for the most part when we have not had much success recently in our two primary sports in basketball and football - until this past week.
