BEAT IOWA!

Virginia is home to the most important waterways in the US. Without settlers first sailing up the Chesapeake bay, James river and York river your joke of a state wouldn’t exist.
I like the trolling but taking credit for land creation is an interesting flex. Like did it come into being when they sailed up the waterways? Just curious. Me and my public education don't understand so good

Stop it. If you tell them what a nice house costs they will all move here.

Gilly is a steal's artist, he is gonna make your guards look silly probably several times again. With that said, his small stature and sometimes over eagerness to go for the steal work against him. Despite being our steals leader, he is not our best defender. That is our other guard Gustavson (Goose). He has the ability to really lock down whomever he is guarding.

The rest of our defense is lackluster. Burton is an NBA prospect, super athletic, fluid player. He does not move his feet well though on defense and can be beaten from guys with a big first step. Our help defense is very slow to react at times and good ball movement will get you an open shot. Golden, our center, is so foul adverse on the defensive end, he can sometimes be a turnstile.

I will say that was most of the season. Last few games of the regular season and in the A-10 tournament our defense really tightened up. I attribute that a lot to Goose, who was injured first half of the season and then had to work himself back into playing shape. I think he is locked in and that has made everyone a bit better.

Wondering who ends of guarding Murray, I think that will fall on Burton, but would love to see Goose get that assignment

We will isolate him on the block with our 6'4" point guard.

We’ll if it wasn’t for those settlers coming up those waterways we never would have eventually moved west to iowa. In that case a state like iowa owes the original 13 and especially Virginia where most of the founding fathers are from everything.

True but it isn’t really how we like to play. Usually if we lose a head scratcher it’s when the refs let the game be super physical. We like to play a wide open offense with a lot of movement.
Sounds like we have a “finesse” team here folks, 😃

There were trappers sitting on the bank of the Mississippi at Dubuque before the founding fathers signed the constitution. We owe you nothing.

LOL,

Was talking about our PG would post him up on the block (offensively).
That's a good plan. 2s, not 3s. That might help keep us in the game. I think we can match your 2s, I'm a little worried about your 3s.

Gotcha. I thought the conversation was about Gilly’s offense. My point is still valid but I grt your point as well. I can only say that almost every guard he has played against is 5 or six inches taller than him so it hasnt been too much of an issue. Does your 6’ 4” guard know how to post up? With the amount of 3’s the Jayhawks jack up I doubt it's an emphasis in practice.

That's all good, but first permanent English settlement in North America was founded in 1607 in Jamestown, Virginia, over a 170 years before the Constitution.

Only folks sitting on the banks of the Mississippi at Dubuque then were Native Americans. No us. No you. You don't owe us anything, a nod of the hat would be nice though :) , but lets get back to basketball. Been watching film on your team, Spiders will definitely have their hands full.

We got a little screwed with the bracket. 1st, we have to play on Thursday and second is playing Iowa. Their Net ranking is 14th, which mean based only on that, they should be a mid 4th seed. They also just won the Big 10 tournament, which might be the best conference in the country. With that said, we can take them.
Iowa played the last game and got an early Thursday game…. Talk a about a screw job but the region is fairly easy on paper.

Man you Jayhawks are funny. "The region is easy". Wow, one would think these Jayhawks were the ones from Kansas making final four's regularly.
"The region is easy" Hahahahaha I can't take it. My sides are hurting.

Off topic, but curious. Virginia school want to sh1tcan our early history, Jamestown, Yorktown, Williamsburg, etc. Do your public schools teach early English Virginia history? Early American history? Roanoke Island, Croatian, the early stuff, the beginning of our nation?

Ya but they wouldn’t have made the USA like the founding fathers did. We get all the credit. Greatest American ever is from our state.

I've been all over and Virginia is one of the prettiest states for sure. But man with all the trees and foliage in those interstate/highway medians makes it impossible to speed, can't see the troopers who are staked out.
Well, you may want to be careful speeding anyway.
The penalty for 81 MPH anywhere in Virginia is $3,000 and 12 months in jail…

One of my UR fraternity brothers way back when was an Iowan. If I recall correctly he was one of two in his class from Iowa. Probably not too many more today since only 5% of students are from the Midwest and most of those are from Chicago and Minneapolis.

To the Iowa fan asking about whether UR is a regional school, only if you consider the Eastern half of these great states from north to south a monolithic region. 16% of students are from VA, 28% Mid Atlantic, 18% South, 17% New England, 5% Midwest, 5% West and 11% International.

Back to my Iowan fraternity brother. He was a great guy and repped your state well. Did well with the ladies. Makes me think you should be sending more of your high achieving high school students back east. Need 3.8 gpa (unweighted), 33 ACT or 1470 SAT to match middle 50% of admitted students.

Freshman year at Iowa I had a guy from Jersey on my dorm floor. His name was Mike. He was Italian. His opening line to every girl I saw him hit on at the bars was... "Hi, I'm Mike. I'm Italian."

Guy f*cking slayed it.

Ha ha, I’m from NJ, but not Italian. Unfortunately that won’t get you far at Richmond. Lots of New Jersey. Makes sense because In NJ there is Princeton, Rutgers…….others.

Damn, this thread has gone completely lame, except for the story of Mike from NJ. Thats funny shit. I should have went to college in Iowa.

And if you have been drinking and/or smoking, just assume the position when pulled over.

My Hoo son, a season ticket holder and a very good judge of basketball, saw Iowa take down UVA by a point in late November. Sees a lot of Spider games too. He believes we are easily capable of beating Iowa.

I'm going with my family and my Spider family. We will get this done! (He believes we win the second game too).
Iowa is a completely different team than we were in the beginning of the season. We’ve really come along in the last 5 weeks.
Good luck Thursday!

Wyoming is playing an absolutely dreadful game. Dreadful. 20 TO's, missed layups. Muldanado playing horrible. Somehow still in the game. This game is hard to watch.

I believe you are seeing an entirely different Iowa team than 3 months ago. Much better defense and rebounding, plus offensively we're a lot more efficient.

Yes, a few of your Brethren have pointed this out as well.

Based on watching videos, Spiders will definitely have more match up challenges than you. Do believe Golden could give you match up problems. If you double him, he can cut you with pinpoint passing. If you don't, he can score (over 2,000 points in career). And hey, obviously we need to control tempo or it could be deep problems quickly for my Spids. Finally, in today's game it almost always comes down to who is hot and who is not from 3.

You are a most worthy opponent and look forward to the game.
