Armando Bacot, PF - 2019 Offer

Why didn't the Mighty Coach K have his players block out? Bacot with 21 rebounds? I know that rebounding is all about desire - but did no Duke player have desire Saturday night?

Well a ton of Bacotes rebounds came from missed drives by Love and Davis, when Williams and Theo John had to help
rim protect and Banchero would have to stay out with Manek. Don’t know why Duke did not try zone some to keep UNC from driving the lane. But give UNC credit, their three point shooting was what kept Duke help defense at bay.

Well Duke did yet 41 rebounds...out of 91...

I wonder how many rebounds Mooney could have held Bacot down to in his career? 4 or 5 a game?
you remember what they said about Michael Jordan...the only man who could stop him was Dean Smith...sorry I couldn't resist!...Smith, Guthridge, Doherty, Williams and now Davis have always liked rebounds

Go Spiders!

Yes, we did because Ferrum Spider told him to come here... ;)
Well when he was an underclassman I did have him committed to our tennis program with the promises of making him more athletic with his footwork for hoops and woulda made my pitch there. Unfortunately an ankle injury last game of basketball season put an end to that. What could of been....

Rebounds are good thing. One of those - try it; you’ll like it things. Fundamentals of basketball. AB is a master at rebounding. Just fun to watch him do his work.

I hear ya. Most D1 programs don't draw that well, but it seems like there's been a bit of a surge in popularity in the past few years. And I will say that Dawn Staley is amazing and it's awesome to see her win another title.

I remember watching her during the one and only season is the Richmond Rage pro women's team in the 90s as part of the ABL, a team that also included Jackie Joyner Kersee for a brief stretch and played some home games in the Robins Center. I still maintain at her peak, she could have played point in the NBA. She did everything necessary at that position to excel, for a man or a woman.

Ended up not being a very good game. South Carolina just crushed UCONN on the boards, and the D was really really good. I don't watch much womens hoops at all, but was very impressed with D that gamecocks played. If I still live in CT in 10 years, it would seem to be my fate to just watch Uconn women play and ignore mens, NBA, etc. Every person 60+ in Connecticut seems to want to talk about Uconn womens basketball. I guess that is why Paige Buckets makes so much $$$.

Heck, just think how much myself, 97, sman, EL etc wouldd post for $63,000 per post. Wow.

Wish she would keep her political crap off the floor.

No chance. Less than zero.
Well I didn't mean start and play 48 minutes, but she could handle and distribute the ball as well as any male point guard at any level. Defense would have been a challenge as it is for any small guard, of course, but I wouldn't bet against her. She was a phenomenal player.

So Bones Hyland may be lucky to have gotten drafted, but Dawn Staley could of played in the NBA?:p

I love DS but once you factor in the athleticism I think it would be hard for her to find PT on any NBA team in her prime. If anyone could do it. Would of been her or Nancy Lieberman (Who did practice with the men back in the day).

Serena Williams the GOAT of tennis got destroyed by a male pro tennis player outside the top 100 in her prime.

Not sure why people don't think Staley could have dribbled, passed and effectively run an offense at the NBA level. I didn't say she was going to block a bunch of shots and rebound, but running an offense doesn't require brute strength. She was every bit quick and talented enough to do that.

She would not have been able to dribble...at all. I realize it sounds misogynistic but u were evaluating her against other girls. Haven't they tried this before in a few sports, has never gone well. Also sort of like the argument a college football team could beat nfl team.

Anecdotally when Gerald Jarmon didn't want me to dribble in the carpet gym I couldn't really dribble. Yet I also played against a good all B10 women's college player back in same era and I was the better player.

you see NBA quickness or explosion here???

I'm with GK. it's not even close. she wasn't nearly quick enough in my opinion to play men's ball, even at the college level. and she'd have to use a man's ball too.

I will say, it is pretty common for top, or maybe any D1 womens teams, to pull together scrimmages vs the top mens intramural level players. I know in the past there were always an article or two about Uconn women doing this, though they never said who won.

We could say the same about you (and many) on this board. ;)
This is an opinionated fan message board with 10 people on it. They were probably packing in 40 or 50 people at those NCAAW games. That’s a real influencer.

I watched a lot of Staley professionally. I don't care what gender she is, she was a top-level point guard -- arguably the best ever among women. Dribbling and passing aren't skillsets than men own exclusively. Again, I'm not suggesting she would have scored 20 points a game, but could you send her out there to run an NBA offense effectively for awhile? Absolutely.

And no random Joe could have gone out and beaten her one on one or even come close.

Yep & people always forget about the smaller ball when they bring up shooting percentages. I mean I have no prob with the smaller ball, they have smaller hands. But it's def easier to make them. take out all physical/athletic reasons & that alone would be a big adjustment.
