Brackets

Great start, up 3-1 in the bottom of the 2nd. Jake Mayers had a 3-run HR in the 1st inning.

9-4 good guys, with UMass coming for their last chance.

The ninth wasn't pretty, but Spiders hang on to win, 9-5.

Top-seeded SLU is next tomorrow at noon.

attending a UR alum deal downtown tonight and will drink a beer and toast the win, great job guys, go for it!

We win 9-5! With Sterling throwing and the bats hot, I give us more than a puncher's chance against #1 SLU tomorrow.

Great to get that first win with your 4th starter.

Sterling should go tomorrow and then Blum who also had a solid season. I heard that Mayers threw last week and could pitch if necessary. He took a fastball off his pitching hand which was the same one he hurt last year. It wasn't broken just a lot of pain.

He is clearly back to his hitting form since the injury. As displayed by the Fordham series and today's game. But they could really use him on the mound too.

Yes, and we also have Cook and Harron available out of the pen. Hopefully we can get a deep start from Zak tomorrow and not have to burn up Brockett too early in the weekend.

Great win! To win it all we have to play 4 or 5 games, so need to spread the pitching around. So do you pitch Zak deep, or do you pull him after 4 or 5 so you can use him again in game 5? Late innings in these things often get ugly becuase using pitchers that don't pitch much, or have rubber arms.

You go to the well with Sterling tomorrow until the well is dry. Tomorrow is arguably the biggest game of the tourney. Lose and we're toast. The odds of getting out of the losers bracket are close to nil.

The St. Louis game is a Huge one. In the tourney, it's all hands on deck for every game, within reason of course (Maffet won't pitch). The team is playing good baseball right now. Every kid on the team was a stud in high school; that means any one of them can step up. What's critical is that we are short on arms, so we need to not play more than about 5 games total. For many of these guys, it is their last dance, so I would look for full effort from everybody.

From the highlights, it sounded like we have a good contingent of UR fans at the games. Hope all NYC alums can attend today.

SLU has a great record and is a tough team, but they have not played an especially tough schedule. The A10 is wide open this year and no team has a decided edge.

Go Spiders!!! Regionals baby!!!

Game started at 4 PM and it was a good first half an inning for the Spiders. Sterling is struggling a little in the bottom of the inning.

I logged on to see the score and realized the game was just beginning. With 1 out, McConnell doubles, then Mayers walks on 4 pitches, and then Cowell bombs a 3-run HR to left center. Then the SLU pitcher almost beams Ruzbarsky with the first pitch. Looks like he is having some control issues. The top of the 1st just ended with the Spiders up 3-0.

Sterling is now pitching in the bottom of the 1st and walked the first batter on 4 pitches and then gave up a shallow single to the 2nd hitter. So 2 on and no outs.

3-0 for the good guys, bottom 1. Cowell with another blast, his 20th of the season.

Any word on what they're doing for the third game today? It's either going to start at 11:00 tonight or be pushed back to tomorrow.

Let's just win and not have to worry about a late night or early morning.

SF, hopefully it won't be our issue.

If we win this game we don't have to play in the last game tonight. Even if we lose as long as the higher seeded Dayton wins the next game vs St Joe's. If St Joe's loses they have to play in that game against URI.

The key is to win this game and then beat the winner of Dayton and St Joe's and we are in the Championship game.

Spiders batting in top of the ninth, still up 3-0. Let's close it out and get a good night's sleep!

Spiders put another run on the board with a bases loaded walk. Pitching change for SLU.

Nice to see our guys tack on some more runs in the 9th. Now it's time to finish them off to end the game.

Boom...two more runs come across before the Billikens can get out of the inning, and the Spiders are three outs away from victory with a 6-0 lead.

Spiders win!

They'll take on the winner of the upcoming game between #2 Dayton and #6 St. Joe's tomorrow. Game time was supposed to be noon tomorrow, but may be shuffled a bit due to today's rain delays.

now we could use some rain to give our pitchers some rest. great job SPIDS!

Well, we got exactly what we needed and more out of ZS today. Resting Brockett was huge.

I would guess either Blum or Cook starts tomorrow then you have Harron and Brockett in relief. Whichever of Blum or Cook doesn't start tomorrow starts the next game.

The big question is does Mayers become available and what can we get out of Maffat on Saturday or Sunday.

A win tomorrow and we are in the fast lane.

Dayton vs. St Joe's game is delayed. Could push to tomorrow and really mess the schedule up. This is proabably great for us since we should have everyone in the bullpen available.

Who would we rather face? Dayton's strength is hitting while St Joe's is clearly pitching. We had a good, close series with Dayton but haven't played St Joe's yet.

Looks like St Joes's won that first game with there number 4 pitcher so they would have there #2 available for their 3rd game just like Dayton would.

Dayton and Saint Joes have been in a long rain delay. The schedule may end up working out to our favor. Good to have that 2nd win the barn already.

That's a beautiful thing. See you in a few hours Flyers!. Get some rest!

Mo, the Flyers needed to go out and celebrate.

Things are falling well, hopefully we can take advantage. Whoever wins this one really has the advantage. Loser plays again at 7:30pm and will have to win three games in less than 24 hours -- tough task for anyone! Go Diamond Spiders!

HUGE effort by the Spiders and by Zak Sterling. By going the distance, our pitching is in really good shape. More than likely, Blum will get the start vs. Dayton. A good contrast in styles, Bashers (UR) vs. small ball (UD). If we can contain their running game, I like our chances. Team is high as a kite and playing well.

Go Spiders!! Regionals baby!!!

This next game at 1:30 PM today against Dayton is huge.

Win this and we are in the Championship game(s) and only have to win 1 of 2 against whichever team we face. That is a huge advantage.

Hopefully our starter (Blum?) can go deep in the game for the win. That would save some pitching for Saturday. Plus every other team except for the one who wins our game vs Dayton will really have to dig deep into there pitching.

Dayton's had to use it's #2 and #3 starters last night to get the win. But they still have their #1 pitcher available for today's game. That is a slight advantage over us.
