RECRUITING AREAS

Dave Legg begins his ninth season at Richmond in 2015, serving in various coaching capacities with the Spiders over the past eight seasons. He will be special teams coordinator and cornerbacks coach for head Coach Danny Rocco, the same positions he has held since 2009.

He coached the defensive line during his first year at Richmond, coached the cornerbacks during the 2008 season and was promoted to cornerbacks coach and special teams coordinator prior to the 2009 campaign.

Coaching the cornerbacks the last six seasons, Richmond's secondary set a school record for interceptions in 2008 -- led by the seven from All-American Justin Rogers. The cornerbacks turned in seven of the team's 16 interceptions in 2009, including three from Rogers, who was named an All-American for the third-straight season. Rogers turned in his fourth-straight First Team All-CAA Football performance in 2010 and was drafted by the Buffalo Bills.

Under Legg's guidance in 2014, PK Peter Yoder broke the school record for field goals made with 22, earning All-CAA Second-Team honors.

In 2013, Richmond led the CAA with 17 interceptions, as DB Wayne Pettus was named Third-Team All-CAA after leading the league in picks. On special teams, PK Brandon Jordi was named Second-Team All-CAA after setting the school record with 18 made field goals.

In 2012, the Spiders led the nation in interceptions with 24, helping Richmond post the country's best turnover margin at +22. CB Darryl Hamilton earned All-CAA honors after tying for the conference lead in interceptions with teammate Doug Howell with five. On special teams, Justin Grant led the CAA in kickoff returns (32.3) to earn All-CAA honors.

Under Legg's guidance in 2007, Richmond's defensive line was one of the league's toughest against the run and produced First Team All-Conference performer Lawrence Sidbury, Jr. The Spiders ranked fourth in the CAA and 29th nationally during the regular season in rushing defense, allowing 131.9 yards/game.

Before coming to Richmond, Legg spent six-years at Christopher Newport, where he helped start the program and served as Defensive Coordinator. Legg assisted CNU head coach Matt Kelchner in organizing the Captains' Division III football program from its inception. In Legg's six seasons, CNU reached the Division III playoffs five times.

Prior to arriving at Christopher Newport, Legg spent five years as an assistant at Bucknell (1995-99), coaching defensive backs, four years at William & Mary (1991-94), where he coached outside linebackers and four years as a defensive line coach at Hampden-Sydney (1987-1990).

Legg and his wife Myra have two sons, Tommy and Wilson.

One of the weakest links in our program for past few years, I have felt has been our Special Teams. We have not been able
to kick into the endzone consistently, cover well on punts, extra points and FGs were 5 Hail Mary's and every digit crossed. The
kicking game was not a focus till I thought last year with better kickoff production, surer FGs and extra points, and a young punter in
DJ who showed a lot more promise and is back for 3 more years, getting bigger and stronger. Hope Coach Legg continues to improve
our special teams as it is an integral part of our success.

know that DC always used front-line/startes on kickoffs and punts and we had excellent special team play then. what does DR do from that standpoint?

Definitely fewer starters used on STs now. Agree with everything Carolina said.
